Restaurant 1915 and Blue Roof Tapas Bar - Bear Mountain
The food was not what the price reflected. The eggs had no flavor, the fruit looked sad. I wanted to like it but it was NOT good.
We went for Sunday Brunch & it was loud, not a huge selection, and the food was ok. The brunch at the Thayer hotel is much better and has unlimited mimosas & Bloody Marys. Not to mention it cost $10 just to park and then the $39/pp for a basic hotel breakfast buffet with just one (weak) drink per person included. Not worth it.
It was very nice, celebrated my Granxhildrens Birthday, Julie at front was very sweet and accommodating, Kelly provide an excellent service. Everyone we met with deom the staff, was very nice.
Over priced for food choice and quality. I would not return. Server was EXCELLENT.
The atmosphere was GREAT, Our server Jake was amazing, the food was good but it was constantly running out and we missed out on ALOT. It was probably because it was a nice day outside so it was crowded.

Our waitress Sarah was awesome. It was very busy and she had many tables and yet she stopped by often and kept our water glasses full and was very pleasant. The special winter menu is the way to go. Hubby and I shared the pumpkin soup and poached pear salad for appetizers. Each was delicious. He ordered the pumpkin ravioli and was not disappointed. I had the lamb with couscous and it was abundant and cooked perfectly. A great birthday dinner spent by the fireside.
First off- the bar is great, servers and bartenders great!.
The restaurant not so great. This was our second time here in a month. We sat down, greeter was very nice. The waitress took 10 minutes or more to come over. Place was pretty slow for a saturday night. We ordered a bottle of wine. She brought it out opened and corked, which nobody does. Was it a rejected bottle? Who knows. No taste sample was poured. So thats not so good, you pay $45 bucks for a bottle of wine- it should always be opened, then poured at the table. No exceptions on that unless you order by the glass.
So we ordered calamari appetizer. It was fried in old oil, tasted pretty bad. You need to change the frying oil.
My girlfriend ordered salmon with angel hair pasta. The pasta was un edible. Dry, lumpy, hard on top like it was reheated or sitting. Her salmon was real dry, she ate half of that.
I had steak poivre. It was ok. Fatty, not a very good steak. Mash potatoes were good.
We told the waitress about the salmon and pasta and they took it off the check. That was nice, thank you!
Bottom line is this.... we are not difficult customers. We eat out 3 times a week. We like it. Quality is really important. The entrees here are in the $35 range. Thats fine. Your food should be really good and its not. How hard is it to do this?? First at fault is the manager who honestly- should be fired today. Read the reviews, they are pretty bad. Its your fault. And honestly- theres plenty of qualified people who would love your job. Next is the chef. Cmon- the food is pretty bad. 2 other tables next to us had problems with the food. Thats pretty bad. You need a new manager and a better chef. Our waitress was new we were told, so she gets a pass. But wheres the manager? You should be there seeing all this! You must be related to the big boss or something. Read the reviews on here. How are you not fired?
This is a beautiful inn with a lot of history. It deserves better.
Food was good, service was lackadaisical. Took forever for hostess to greet us at the front desk. Ordered a beer, waitress did not know they were out of it. Had to ask twice to get sweetener for my coffee. Nice atmosphere but a bit overpriced given the mediocre service.
Food and service were exceptionable! Great place to eat after skating.
I GO WITH MY FIANCE, CAUSE BEAR MOUNTAIN IS A SPECIAL PLACE FOR US, AND I CHOOSE THIS RESTAURANT BECAUSE WE NEVER TRY BEFORE. WE WAITING FOR 1 HOUR AND HALF TO THAT THEY TAKE ORDER OF OUR FOOD, FINALLY WE CHOOSE THE BUFFET BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE ANY FOOD A LA CARTE, WHEN WE GO TO THE PLACE TO GET THE FOOD, THERE IS A GREEEN BEEF, DRY CHICKEN, SHRIMP SUMERGED IN WATER.
We had a great experience. Food was absolutely delicious and the wait staff was terrific! Some of our past visits were not so great, However it appears that they are making some necessary and appreciated changes. We will definitely be back.
Unfortunately, the food we had made us feel ill, and we were hoping we would be comp'd for the evening, but were given a nominal discount instead. Otherwise good service from the waitstaff and a friendly environment.
We had a wonderful lunch on MLK day! Reservations were easy to make and food was very good. Service was a little slow but server was pleasant and helpful at beginning of our lunch but then seemed to disappear at the end. But overall, beautiful location and lovely lunch!
The host took 30 minutes to seat us. And we did not see a waiter for another 20 minutes. Very disappointed with the overall experience

Took ages before a server acknowledged us and took our drink orders. As more patrons finished brunch and exited, their tables were left covered with used plates, glasses, etc. By the time we left the restaurant we were surrounded by empty uncleared tables. It was extremely unattractive and left a sour taste. Food was ok, but dining experience completely not worth the price.
I like Restaurant 1915 but I think its time for a new menu. I've been coming here monthly since the spring and the entree salads are the same, month after month. I've tried the special menu as well,but that gets boring as well. Needs more vegetarian entree options.
Fantastic restaurant. Both the food and experience were amazing. I had the Beef Wellington. The best I’ve ever had. Would also highly recommend the scallops served as an appetizer. Our server was so professional but also a ton of fun. She made the entire night a success.
Make sure to arrive before 3:30 for lunch. The kitchen closes from 4-5 so they will only serve pub food after 3:30
We made a reservation for 3:30 pm on New Year's Day which was confirmed. When our party arrived, they told us that there was no dinner or lunch menu, that only the bar menu was available. Why did they accept our reservation knowing the menu was limited???? So as not to mess up our plans, we stayed. The fish was very breaded, tasteless and very dry; the wine was atrocious, and the salad was like something that you get in a plastic tub from the supermarket already prepared. The service was very good - they were apologetic and efficient. The ambience was very nice, but even the logs in the fireplace were on a limited basis as they had pretty much burnt out and no one was replacing them. We made the best of it for the New Year, but we will never come to this restaurant again.
We made a reservation for New Year’s Day breakfast. There was only 5 table seated in the whole restaurant, which we thought would be a great experience. Unfortunately, it was anything but that. We received our coffee and bakery basket, after an hour of waiting for our pancakes, we asked for the check and left. We never even received a refill on our coffee, since there was not a server in site. We asked if there was a problem in the kitchen , and the answer was No. The manager told us they were backed up with the other 4 tables. This restaurant is huge, big enough for a wedding. Just to give an idea of the size of the hall. Therefore, I will most likely not be making a return.
We have eaten here a number of times and this was by far our best experience. The New Year's Eve price fixe menu was a real bargain and the food was excellent. We were pleased to see that a number of people chose to have an earlier dinner that night. Although the restaurant was almost fill, noise was not an issue. More people should check out this place.
Went to dinner with my family on New Year's Eve. I made a reservation through OpenTable since that is how they take reservations, but was given no notice of a fixed menu. When we arrived we found that they were only serving a fixed menu that was not very kid friendly. The fixed menu was also priced at $65 per adult and $32 per child. No drinks included. Our waiter tried his best to accommodate my children but I have a hard time rationalizing a $250 meal that wasn't worth half that. I don't think my family and I will be returning.
Brunch at the restaurant with my family December 29 was a little disappointing. Our reservation was at 11 but was not seated till 11:15 because they were not ready on time. This is the second time this has happened to us. There was not a lot of guests but they were not enough staff to serve. Food was good especially the shrimp cocktail and huge oysters. Price is reasonable. View is beautiful. Staff was accommodating and prompt.
While the food was excellent, service was terrible. Hostess made us wait 10 minutes to be seated while she took a takeout order. After being seated, 15 minutes later had to get up and ask for a server. After ordering wine, again had to get up another 15 minutes later and ask server for it. Many apologies later dinner served but while it was good service horrible!
After reading the reviews of 1915, I thought I would simply enjoy being at the Bear Mountain in and the food would be good. However, the food was excellent and that was a pleasant surprise.
For dinner I had lamb and my husband had to take up whatever and we both enjoyed our meal. For breakfast, I had fresh fruit and yogurt and both were very good. For lunch, I had a messy platter and my husband had a cheese BLT and they were both delicious.
We dined on Christmas night, and it was a prix fixe menu. The courses were delicious, and very generous....the cheese plate was enough for 3 people! I had Beef Wellington which was delicious, my husband had a french cut chicken breast with shrimp scampi....delicious. our table was right next to the fireplace, so cozy and rustic. There were large parties dining, but the dining room accommodated everyone and the noise level was quiet. We would go back, and would recommend the 1915 restaurant without hesitation.

Christmas Eve. 15 empty tables and still we waited 20 minutes past our reservation time. Once seated, I put on the timer on my phone and clocked 12 minutes Before a server brought water and took our drinks order.
We were forced to order all three courses at once from a prix fixe menu, which was not mentioned on the website where we made our reservation.
There were no vegan or gluten free options and the only vegetarian selection was pasta in a creamy sauce.
Our server told us that the restaurant has been recently renovated. It was a terrible job. The romantic, warm and rustic atmosphere I remember is gone.
The food was okay. Though we were seated by the fire, The air conditioning blew so hard directly at us that we wore our coats through the entire meal.
The salad was served after a ten minute wait and we were rushed to finish as our entree arrived.
Desserts were good but again, all contained wheat and dairy.
We will definitely go back. The staff seemed a little unprepared for the Christmas eve dinner.
Their website did not indicate there was a fixed menu for Christmas Eve. Our salad came and before I was halfway through they brought the main dish and the waitress said they were on a fast service.
Prefixe course on Christmas eve and Christmas day is like robbing people. 1 small salad with cheese, 1 main dish (which nothing fancy, and 1 dessert (choice of pecan pie with vanilla ice cream, bread pudding, ) for $65 per person..Not include tax and gratuity. The service was okay, not enough people to take care of all table. we have been waiting more than 20 minutes for the check.
Food was great. Requested (on Opentable and in person) to sit near fireplace but told we couldn’t. There were two empty tables but they like to spread out the diners.

The food was disgusting. Old slimy greens,fish with SPICY tomato sauce when waiter said it wasn’t “really” spicy, it was like a flamethrower and cooked to almost sawdust consistency and the duck was two legs not breast as informed. They need a new chef pronto if they are even thinking about staying open. Come on people it’s 2020 get with the times
Unfortunately, Restaurant 1915 and Blue Roof Tapas Bar at the Bear Mountain Inn isn't what it used to be.
Don't get me wrong. The structural upgrades have preserved the rustic elegance extremely well. Plus, the food is exquisite.
However, in the 90s (and going back much further), this spot was was a historic and fairly high-end, romantic destination.
Not so anymore.
Now, it's extremely loud and rife with kids running around mostly unsupervised. The staff is somewhat trained and rather green and/or young to handle basics like reasonable attentiveness, correct drink orders, and bringing the correct bill to your table at the end of the meal.
Lest you think I'm just a jaded curmudgeon, none of the aforementioned issues would even be on my radar if the prices were commensurate with this level of noise and service. The menu and prices are that of a five star establishment. When that's the case, you expect the basics not just covered, but done rather well.
On the odd chance that an owner or manager is reading this, please don't think that the waiter or server is to blame. As money in every American business continues to be increasingly disproportionately allocated among owners and workers, the same could really be said for so many establishments in the area. But I majorly digress.
Since the location is so heavily nostalgic to me (and many others) I'm still likely to keep visiting and continue to hope for the Bear Mountain Inn that once was.
The food was delicious. It is a bit overpriced but it was very good.
While the brunch menu was extensive with so many good choices and the service was excellent, the dining room was extremely cold. So much so that 4 of the 6 people in our party kept their coats on for the entire meal. We were first seated at the window but had to move because the draft was awful. After moving it still was not comfortable. Other than that I would give it a good rating.
The venue was incredibly cold. I left my winter coat on the entire time and didn’t feel that I could afford to take my hands out of my coat pocket to hold my girlfriend’s hand.
