The Fado concerts ( the weekend ) accompany the flambée'd dishes at the table, in a wonderful traditional setting that transports you, time for a meal in the country of the sun and the sea.
Extensive Wine List: Red wines from 1968 and Porto from 1900s.
Food and service were great, we also had a Touriga Nacional wine that was fabulous.
We were early for our reservation, but were seated immediately. The entire staff was excellent and Anthony, our waiter, did a great job in his recommendation for the wine Also the dishes Anthony recommended were excellent. The personal touch of a dessert for an anniversary was also very thoughtful.
An exceptional meal with high quality service. Will return.
Good service good food and a nice atmosphere. Setting is micr
It was like being in Portugal!
Good fish and seafood.
Fado in the background( I would have enjoyed more)
Thank you to Manuel!
Excellent service and perfect recommendations for food and wine!
So not a trendy restaurant but a place to feel good and eat well.
Really a special evening. Came here to celebrate 40 the whinging anniversary and left with a whole experience, a private concert and song, and an outstanding meal. Thank you for making it so special for the family! We look forward to returning.
Good food and excellent service. Enjoyed the live music.
A real treat! A fully authentic Portuguese meal worth the time and money it takes to enjoy it. We were a party of 8 and really enjoyed ourselves. The wine and food was all delicious. I got the flambé steak and the other couple got the paella type dish. Kids loved the clams and mussels. The service was so attentive and warm. Definitely try it out!
Lovely, caring , friendly and professional service. Kitchen quite slow. Nice live music. Grilled sardines great. Duck breast a bit overdone.
Although the restaurant did not have many customers, service was slow. Great view of the street from table near window helped pass the time
Nourriture bonne mais trop cuite ambiance très bien
Excellente expérience. Nous y retournerons.
Thought we were back in Oporto or Lisbon! Food was excellent, waiter attentive and friendly, ambience excellent. And as a bonus, they had a pair singing and playing fado, who were very good too.
Absolutely fabulous !! Food was fresh, great quality, cooked to perfection. Price point was great- dinner for 2, no drinks $80! Will come back when in Montréal! Merci!!
I cancelled our earlier plans to have Italian. It is not often you find a Portuguese restaurant. We needed to go. The service was spot on and food was amazing!
The staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. They could not find the Open Table reservation. I showed them the confirmation email and they quickly sat us. They were henceforth beyond attentive. The portions are enormous and very good quality food.
Excellent service by Mr Anthony. Good Music, we spent New Year's Eve and had a great time
Everything was just amazing: the ambiance, the live singer, the service, the waiter was sooo kind, the tapas, the oil and olives are just YUMMY!
I only have one comment: we didn’t like the “grilled Morue”, the fish was not well cooked, tasted like raw, and soo salty!
Decor was lovely and the degustation menu was very good! My favorites were the shrimp bisque, the octopus and the salmon...however everything was very tasty! The staff was also very welcoming! I am looking forward to dining when there is a show on!
Service was excellent and our waitor was friendly and very pleasant. Would definitely go back.
Immediately at the entrance we were greeted enthusiastically by the head water. Tastefully decorated. Beautiful white linen tablecloths & napkins. Menu reminiscent of Portugal , service was spot on. Excellent evening. One we will never forget.
My wife and I agree that this was one of the finest meals we've ever had. Anthony, our waiter, led us through our magnificent meal with knowledge, humor and gusto.
I went there for a family dinner. The service was super good. Mr. Anthony was so friendly and the whole team as well. The ambiance was calm and the furniture is so classy. I loved the food, the chef is a great cook! In Brief, the whole experience was amazing.
Dining at Solmar was simply fantastic. The food was exceptionally good and beautifully presented. The waiter was extremely helpful when we asked about choosing a wine. He selected a real gem and told us the story of the vineyard which is completely owned and operated by women. The wine was superb! We only wish we could stay in Montreal longer so we could enjoy more of the wonderful menu items.
Given the positive reviews here, I was surprisingly disappointed with this place The dining room is very "old world" so if that's your style you'll love it. We ordered some appetizers, kale soup and salad, and some tapas. The waiter suggested a rose that I liked quite a lot. However, we sat for nearly 20 minutes waiting for the soup and salad. He said that the kitchen was making a "fresh batch" of the soup. Seemed a bit odd in the middle of your dinner service to be making the soup! When it did arrive it turned out to be OK and the watercrest and tomato salad underwhelming. We had three tapas plates, codfish, scallops and chorizo, and shrimps and garlic. I couldn't get enough of the shrimp that was fantastic, the codfish was like a crabcake and pretty good, but the scallops and chorizo were a disappointment. Neither one was very flavorful and didn't seem to go well together. For what we paid for this small meal, I really don't think it was worth it.
Food was outstanding. Service was exceptional. Very friendly staff that knew what they were doing. We would definitely go back next time we are in Montreal. The chef also made our night extra special. Get the grilled octopus.
great food and taste. Winder experience. great service and kind staff
We where properly greeted . and than forgotten . We gave our order , and received our wine . Then we where forgotten for over an hour ...no bread no olives .. tables that where filled after us received their water , bread and olives .. we received nothing until the appetizers we ordered arrived and the waiter realized he forgot the bread an olives .
After we got our tasty and great appetizers , soon after our meal it all arrived within 15 minutes with the bread and the olives ..
The meal itself was AMAZING the service was not acceptable for me we arrived at 7 and got our appetizers , bread & meal at 8:30 . For the price we paid that is not acceptable ...
This is a really fun restaurant with great service. It's a great introduction to Portuguese food for the unfamiliar.
It wasn't very busy which was great for talking with our friends. The Caesar salad made at the table was excellent. My friend had clams and said they were the best.
We enjoyed our evening including the gentle live music. Food was nicely prepared and presented and service was very professional.
