Had the tasting menu. Really nothing bad to say about anything... very rare. Service level matched the food quality. Definitely would dine here again.
A disappointment. Menu selections were limited. My spouse has some limitations on certain foods, but the waitstaff was unwilling to prepare a simple dish of carbonara, which is listed on the lunch menu. Then they made several rude remarks about her pickiness. After selecting a pasta dish actually listed on the menu, the dish was sloppily presented and the pasta was undercooked. Even the wine choices were difficult, no Prosecco, no Cabernet Sauvignon, extreme prices and attitude to match.
Nourriture excellente, service excellent
Tasting menu and wine pairing not st caliber of a 5 star restaurant
Knowing that Toqué has been consistently listed in the Top 5 or so restaurants in Montreal for decades, I have always wanted to try it. So, this year I took my daughter there for her birthday dinner. From the moment you enter you know that you are in a high-end culinary space. The décor is subtle and tasteful with works of art adorning those walls that are not floor-to-ceiling windows. The tables are generously spaced to the point where you can have a private meal and conversation while still surrounded by other patrons. Instead of the reputed tasting menu, we ordered starters, main courses, and a dessert, all à la carte. The house green salad with confit Bluefin tuna was succulent and tasty. A classy touch was to serve it as if we had ordered two separate salads even though we had split the order. The amuse-bouche, which arrived unsolicited and unexpected was delicious. My daughter’s main course was the house-made Orecchiette pasta with zucchini, cherry tomatoes, caramelized onions, pine nuts, green garlic ricotta, oyster mushrooms, and parmigiano reggiano. I tasted it and it was an excellent pasta dish with a nice combination of garnishes. My main dish was the Bluefin tuna loin with dashi bouillon with corn, shiitake mushrooms, bok choy, camelina, corn, grilled shishito pepper, and sea orach. The Bluefin tuna was out of this world tender and tasty with a fine texture. For dessert, we split a Bahibe chocolate ganache with raspberry chips and gel, pistachio oil, sponge cake and powder, and Hojicha tea whipped panache and ice cream. It came with a burning candle on it, accompanied by a birthday card signed by the Chef, Normand Laprise. At the end of the meal we each received a mini sweets plate with a piece of brown sugar fudge and a fruit paste candy, both delicious. The table service was friendly, efficient, and professional. Not only was the food beautifully presented and delicious, but it was the many small touches that made this a special dining experience.
Tasting menu was a wonderful experience. The fresh sheep cheese course continues to defy my understanding of the ability to eat sheep's milk cheese without a lanolin aspect to it -this is most likely due to the refined but efficient locally-sourced ingredient procurement process the establishment created.
Awesome restaurant for foodies. Very creative dishes. Highly recommended.
The service is excellent but the food was disappointing.
This restaurant exceeded our expectations and lived up to its reputation in all regards. From the moment we were greeted by an umbrella wielding valet, to the gracious and sympathetic welcome of the staff, throughout the dining experience we were made to feel welcome and comfortable. Taxi driver took us to the wrong restaurant and we were 30 minutes late so not in the best frame of mind when we arrived. Our ill humor was quickly dispelled by the ambiance, friendliness of staff and wonderful food! The duck was superb, oysters wonderful (even to a non-oyster lover like me), and tuna lovely. Presentation highlighted the natural goodness of each plate. Merci beaucoup!
Have been hearing about Toque for years and this was my first time visiting (from Vancouver). It did not disappoint! True fine dining experience, impeccable service, especially from the somm Carl. We enjoyed every single dish from the tasting menu. Chef same out to say hello at the end of the night and was gracious and inspiring. A highlight of our brief trip to Montreal.
Excellent!
It was my first time at your restaurant. I totally enjoyed the experience. The personnel is courteous, polite, always smiling, with sound advise on choice of food and wine to accompany the meals. We were sitting by the window not very far from the entrance but yet it was very quiet, which I enjoyed particularly.
I would go back anytime :)
Fine dining at its best! Great restaurant, with both degustation and a la carte.
Great selection of wines too.
Had the tasting menu with wine pairing- outstanding evening of food and attentive service
Dommage !
This has to be one of the best and beautiful restaurants. My friend and I did a chef tasting menu and it was divine. If you don’t eat at this place, you’re missing out. Thank you for a great experience
Fantastic. Food was amazing. Fresh and delicious!!! Service was great. I am visiting from out of town but will visit again on my next trip!
The food was spectacular to look at and to eat! Service was spotless!
We've found a long piece of hair stuck in the food ruining the tuna belly course.
We were traveling and seeing that being on #2 on Canada Top Restaurants we had to come and visit. Our reservation was late so we opted out of Tasing menu. Food was fantastically presented with great flavour. We had about 5 appetizers and one generous main to share - we couldn’t have been happier with our waiters suggestions. The service was A+ and so was the food. The only thing that didn’t align was the decor. However, we were very happy with our experience at Toque! Merci.
Beaucoup trop cher et ambiance froide. Dessert trop copieux.
Nourriture, vins, services excellents.
These are only my opinions, not matters of fact.
Was very impressed with the ambiance, level of service and attentiveness from our server, sommelier, and host staff. Knowledge was impeccable. All of the food was beautifully presented, yet some plates lacked seasoning. The arc of the tasting menu suited the plates that arrived, as well as the pairings. The halibut was delicious! The duck was nicely cooked, felt the fat could have been better rendered. The sauce for this dish was quite bitter, almost burnt. The veal dish did not have much depth of flavour, but was nicely cooked. Overall I felt that the bill did not match the quality of food I would have expected from a restaurant with such a great reputation.
One of the best meals of my life. The space is a little sterile, spacious and dated. But will definitely return next time in Montreal.
Overall an amazing place if you are a foodie and wine lover. So starting with the wine, this place has incredible choices. Real surprising finds, even for the more than average wine buff. Good pairing abilities.
The food was great, but short from amazing. Obviously, if you spent over 1k for four the expectations are high. The sampling menu (7courses) had some misses. The haddock had no taste. Asking for salt should have been a hint to the kitchen, but no feedback.
The duck was not memorable enough. Nevertheless we will make this a regular stop since the surprise factor on food/wine combinations are a must for regular experience. The service was impeccable. Very knowledgeable staff. You notice the effort they took in making the experience unique. Have not seen this matched anywhere else in Montreal.
Very quiet calm atmosphere.
Excellent professional service
Delicious and well presented food
A special dining experience.
Had one of the more disappointing restaurant experiences of my life tonight. Unfortunately, I came in with entirely too high of expectations for the third best restaurant in Canada.
Sat down at 7:00. Ordered the seven course tasting menu at 7:20ish. First course came at 8:00, second at 8:30, third at 9:00. First course was an elevated shrimp salad. It could have come from the fridge. The rest of the meal was good, not great. We left the restaurant at 10:45, only after having no coffee and asking for the check with the seventh course. Curiously, the table two over from us sat down at 8:30 and they were served their seventh course at the same time we were served ours seventh course. The table next to ours sat down at 7:30, obviously ordered after us, and had their appetizer and main before we had our second course. It is possible we just had a “off” experience, but I won’t ever return to find out.
Unfortunately near us was a family with a toddler that screamed so now and then
I had fish that was of a quality and texture that I have never even seen before. That was a standout dish amongst a seven-course tasting menu. It had a great variety of tastes. One combo that I didn't know I would love was the foie gras + pancake. All around, great.
Great as always!
The meal took far too much time, nearly four hours. Long waits between courses for the seven-course tasting menu. At times we wondered if the servers had lost track of us. At times the food came but we had no wine. Other times we had neither food nor wine for many minutes and were left with an unappealing empty table. Food was quite good, not stunning. Not especially inventive. We had heard rave reviews and were underwhelmed by the total experience.
Creative food, locally sourced. One of Canada's top chefs is at the helm. The restaurant would earn Michelin stars if Michelin rated Canadian restaurants, in my view. The chilled yellow tomato soup with shrimp was a particular highlight.
