Riccardo started his career at a very young age in Milan's prestigious "GIRARROSTO" family owned. Then, in 1982 he moved to the United States and he opened the famous Sonny Bono's in Los Angeles. In 1987 he started to work with his cousin Roberto Ruggeri (owner of Bice's Venture), with him he opened Bice New York, Los Angeles and many others around the world.

Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."

Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.

What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
8.4

Classy without being overly pretentious. Riccardo Trattoria is one of our favorite Italian restaurants around.

Ratings 8.0-8.5:The best way to think about restaurants in the low to mid 8′s is that these are the places you would absolutely go back to, anytime. These restaurants are ones that you want to bring a friend to, just so they can also experience the duck carnitas, or burger, or whatever dish the place is known for.

Wonderful! I went to Riccardo Trattoria for dinner on New Year's Eve, and everything was perfect! I thought service would be slow because of the busy holiday, but our server was incredibly attentive and the food was delicious. The price was very reasonable as well. I will absolutely be back!

Multo bene. I’ve grown up making pasta with mia famiglia and I’ve eaten it all over Italy but the quality of the food and the hospitality here is second to none. Buona fortuna.

The food is good here-the service as usual was hit and miss. The waiter wasn’t super interested in our table which is unfortunately-Nothing new for this place.
It’s not edgy. Just annoying.
Carbonara was great.

A classic Italian trattoria with great food, superb service and wonderful ambiance. With Riccardo ‘s warm hospitality, one cannot go wrong with any of his many dishes. Whether you try the pasta, carne or peace, you’ll enjoy! And the wine list is extensive, offering a broad range from reasonably priced to impressive.

If you’re looking for comfortable, friendly restaurant with good quality food, check out Riccardo’s!

Great Italian restaurant with a very nice menu. Plenty of options for meat and seafood lovers as well as great pasta dishes. The Osso Bucco was phenomenal as well as the Rack of Lamb and the Seafood Stew. My mom got the Halibut Provençal and she loved the dish. Very small place so it can get loud in the restaurant and your close to other tables because it’s so small. Not a place for a quiet meal especially if a lot of wine is being consumed at other tables. This is our 2nd time eating here and both times were excellent. Highly recommend this place for special occasions. Make sure to get the Ricotta Torte for dessert as this is a great dessert and not too sweet.

If this isn't the best Italian restaurant in the city, I would like to know of one that is better. The food is incredibly great -- and authentic as well. The pasta is wonderful, but you would do even better to order one of Riccardo's fabulous entrees. The best, simply the best,

My 6 th time I have been here and the first time I was a bit disappointied. To serve bruschetta that is soggy is way below there standard, although it was complementary. My squid that I had for appetizer was over cooked. But service was good as usual.

I would like to lie and say no one should ever go here to avoid competition, that I guess that would not be fair.

Smaller place so get a reservation. Great service even on the really busy Saturday night we were there.

Started with Caprese salad- sounds basic but heirloom tomatoes, fresh capers, fruity olive oil, and classic, really creamy fresh mozzarella made it special. Next course was rigatoni (perfectly cooked) with sausage, peas, and cream red sauce. The capers were big and fresh- low brine, and the peas were clearly fresh. Wonderful.

Should say that we shared these first two dishes- with just two of us we were trying to order as many dishes as we could. Waiter didn’t even blink.

For entrees we had Ravioli stuffed with beef and veal- home made with a meat sauce like momma made and spectacular and veal saltimbocca done perfectly (tender, light sauce, Tuscany potatoes to soak up the delicious sauce.

Almost forgot, wine list is short, sweet, and fair.

Not dessert people but saw Copas al tre gusti - think Spinone made with whipped gelato. To die for.

Oh, I didn’t mention the owner was watching the kitchen like a hawk- every dish was inspected and i suspect no one in the kitchen dared to disappoint.

Try it but ration your visits so it doesn’t get impossible to book!

If you dont have to wait a long time then eat here it's not worth the hour or more wait... It's really not their fault, its the people that gotta sit around for 2 hours after they ate and shoot the s**t...

It's a small nice place with an authentic feel good food but nothing crazy.
