Rime is named for the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, chosen to pay tribute to the nautical and cultural nature of this World UNESCO Heritage town. At Rime, we love to swap stories with our guests, whether they are visiting for the first time or we know them by name, and with the farmers, fishers and producers who are behind each dish we serve.
Of course the food tells a story too – the story of the land, of the producers, the history of a region. Season to season, we are inspired by these stories and our flavours reflect that fresh, local, creative narrative.
Good news/bad news. Food was excellent. Service was lousy. We were the only table yet rarely saw our waiter/waitress (they changed half-way through the meal). Water glass never refilled...and empty for quite a while.
Nice evening but charged for tip twice still waiting for refund
We chose the Rime to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a wonderful experience. The calamari appetizer was a chef's creation and absolutely delightful, and my scallops were seared to perfection. The wait staff were friendly, pleasant and very attentive. The ambiance in the downstairs dining room was similar to that of a wine cellar, and offered a quiet and romantic atmosphere that was ideal for our wedding anniversary.
Food was excellent. Basement area was not same ambiance as main level., but nice...Staff were friendly and helpful
They accepted my reservation. I turned up place seemed closed. When I called recorded message said they were open Wednesday-Sunday. It was a Monday. Why accept a reservation for a night when you’re closed. Ended up eating at the salt shaker deli which I would recommend. Avoid Rime go to the Salt Shaker
The food was very good, however the service was a little slow. Overall it was a good experience.
Rime has been the best restaurant in Lunenburg for a couple years now. The owner/chef is brilliant with his flavours and technique. Rime is always on point with local seasonal menu's that are modern and consistently outstanding. Add that to the ambience and excellent service and you get an experience you won't forget.
Rime was recommended by our B&B hosts for high level quality. Small menue, that changes monthly with a very good choice of wines. We really like the concept and absolutely enjoyed our dinner with a super nice Italian Canadian waiter in a tasteful surrounding.
As always our Rime experience was exceptional. The flavours burst from every bite, presentational is beautiful, and service great.
In a town where several restaurants don’t take reservations, Rime does. This was a plus. The menu is very small, so there is not much choice. The portions were ample and nicely presented. The main distraction was that a table for six remained uncleared for over half an hour.
This team was marvelous! 30 minutes into the service the power went out in all of Lunenburg and this team didn’t miss a beat! They seamlessly continued to serve the 35 patrons with only the power of a generator.
Our meals were delicious, beautifully presented and we enjoyed lovely wine pairing with our entrees. My husband had seared scallops over pasta - which I never got a bite of. I indulged in the special of a filet of fresh mackerel stuffed with a soufflé of scallops served over lobster and homemade gnocchi.
Rime makes their own bread, sorbets and gelatos. You won’t go wrong with any of them!
If you like wine... coming from SF and Napa Valley we enjoy trying out varietals from the areas we explore. Give the Tidal Bay white a try. We would describe it as a cross between a sauvignon blanc and Viognier. Crisp, soft pineapple and Citris flavors. Perfect against our seafood.
If you make it to this delightful restaurant let Sam know that the Italian lady sent you!
I made a reservation 2 days before as we are traveling. And also called that afternoon when we arrived in the town and left a message to give us a ring for some details. Then when we arrived at the door, the restaurant was closed. I went around back and the person working in the kitchen told us they closed for a catering event and must have forgotten to turn off open table.
Very enjoyable evening - Sam he waiter was pleasant and knowledgable and the owner was quite friendly as well
I love to visit nice restaurants (good food, ambiance, staff). I was advised that I should check Rime out upon my arrival in Lunenburg (the owners of the B&B also told me to check it out).
I booked a reservation through Open Table. I arrived a little ahead of time, and I was told someone was still occupying the table; I said I was early and understood. I asked if I could sit and eat at the bar that would be fine (opening up a table for two instead of sitting one).
I was shown to the bar and given a cocktail menu. I was asked by the barmaid if I was ready to order... and I ordered a lovely draft beer. I had to ask for a menu after about five minutes. (I guess there was a shortage of menus?) Both I and another bar patron waited a good twenty minutes to get menus.
I ordered the Brondade and the Halibut. The Brondade came out in a very reasonable amount of time and was enjoyable. While I was enjoying my appetizer two women sat next to me... they ordered wine salad and grilled shrimp and scallops.
I sat at the bar reading my book, passing the time until my dinner arrived.... And I waited... I am on vacation but also had an 8:30 ghost tour. Then the women who sat down after me got there order.... and I waited...
At 8:10 I finally just grabbed money out of my wallet to take care of my bill.. at which point I was told they were plating my dish as we spoke... after five minutes more I was completely over waiting given it was 8:15 and I was going to have less then 15 minutes to eat and pay my check ( after planning 1:30 to eat a meal).
I paid the bill for the portion of the meal that I had, and left.
I am a very easy going individual... but in an hour and a half I should have been able to have an app, entree and dessert, and leisurely sipped a cup of coffee and have that seat flipped for another customer.
Booked reservation through Open Table, but when we arrived for our confirmed time, they had not received our reservation and we were unable to eat here.
DO NOT BOOK A RESERVATION FOR THIS RESTAURANT THROUGH OPEN TABLE - CALL THEM DIRECTLY. The owners of Rime should not be affiliated with Open Table if the the reservation process is not functional.
Disappointed we were not able to dine here. Unable to comment on food obviously.
Food, ambience, service absolutely outstanding. We went to Lunenburg specifically to eat at Rime and it did not disappoint.
Great restaurant, amazing food and very friendly without being overbearing service. We had a 7 year old with its who they treated like an adult and made her feel special. The food was creative, good portion. Overall great experience from A-Z
The service was excellent, with nice atmosphere. The swordfish was very good, but did not have the level of flavour for the price.
Le 5 à 6 — huîtres à 1$ est un incontournable. Plats fins et service impeccable. Ambiance décontractée. 👍🏼
Menu choices looked interesting but reality landed when the food appeared. Quantity was lacking and taste left us wanting more. Bottom line - overpriced for what you get - look elsewhere.
Love this place we have had some of best restaurant meals here!
We enjoyed our Mother's Day dinner at Rime. It's near the Lunenburg waterfront, and the staff are friendly and attentive. The service was slow, but it was a holiday and they were busy, so I wouldn't make too much of that. We had their seafood chowder as an appetizer, and that was both creamy and light. Delicious. We had one of the specials, a lamb entree, and it was also very good.
Rime was delicious and the service was great! Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine and beer selection as well as descriptions of each dish. The atmosphere is quiet and friendly. I highly recommend for a date night or a small group!
Service was excellent. Food was fresh and very tasty.
Two of us went to Rime for dinner - an event was happening "upstairs", so we were seated in the very cozy and attractive den area - surrounded by attractive jars of preserves! Despite a nearly full house, the service was attentive and the food was wonderful! One of us has a long list of allergies. The chef was kind enough to provide a specially made, allergen-free, delicious main course. The deep-fried brussel sprouts were as delicious as usual.
It was a relaxing and enjoyable experience!
Rime, located in beautiful , historic Lunenburg is a delight
Haut Casual atmosphere, friendly accommodating staff and tasty food.
What more could one ask for.
Strip loin steak was juicy and tender and the fries were addictive. Seafood chowder appetizer was excellent.
The rhubarb cheesecake dessert was just okay for me. Not much rhubarb or shortbread base layer....
The restaurant treated us incredibly well. They were expecting a large crowd upstairs so they seated us downstairs where we could talk without difficulty. The service was perfect. Attentive without being invasive. Everything we ordered was delicious. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Amazing Anniversary dinner. Did find it a little pricy .our waitress was wonderful and made it special for us.
Food was amazing.
Would go back again.
The restaurant was recommended by the hotelier. It was nearby. It was not over crowded and the staff did not appear rushed. Their oysters were the best of the whole trip. The seafood portions were not meager.
Attentive service and wonderful food! Attractive restaurant, but can be noisy. Our meals were great!
This is an excellent restaurant in the small town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The server was thoughtful and knowledgeable, prices appropriate for the dining experience and the food was tasty and interesting. The salads were fresh and clean, and the main courses suggested an innovative chef.
Absolutely delicious. Best in Lunenburg! Can't wait to return.
We enjoyed a delicious meal and great service there on our last visit. The noise level is still an issue we find.
Food was good. Service was good except that the waiter had no personality and didn't seem to have any wait experience. He would put the food on the table and say what it was and leave. There was no "enjoy your meal" and also no checking back to see if everything was okay. Also at end of meal, he brought the bill and as he was putting it on the table, he asked"you didn't want coffee or anything did you?" We expected a bit more professionalism. The others who helped wait on us were great. We will most likely not eat there again.
We go to Rimes whenever we visit Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. If you would like a more upscale restaurant with local ingredients apart from casual seafood restaurants, then this is a great place. Most restaurants in Lunenburg are pretty casual with the exception of 2 or 3. Food was fresh, very tasty and the service was very good and attentive. You can set your pace to hurry or have a relaxing meal. Good wine selection. The place is a noisy when full. No water view but you won't miss it.
This was the nicest food we had on our Nova Scotia vacation. The Halibut and Scallops were cooked to juicy perfection, and the sides were tasty unique flavor combinations. The service was attentive and pleasant. The ambiance was quiet and friendly. We highly recommend this spot and will return again when we return to Lunenburg!
Rime was excellent! We had a great waitress who knew a lot about the wines. She paired a rose with our apps of fois gras (which was truly amazing) and calamari. Then we had an Italian red paired with scallop spaghetti and a white paired with swordfish. Meals were all outstanding. The couple we were with commented that there was no salt or pepper on the table because everything was cooked to perfection and didn't need anything!!
We were shown to our reserved table after a short wait. Excellent waiter, knowledgeable about food and wine. The two who had foie gras loved it. My oysters were delectable. Puttanesca pasta and spicy scallop pasta dishes were excellent and the mussels also. No room for desert! But a lovely bottle of Sancerre.
Delicious food with outstanding service. A real find in postcard-picture Lunenburg.
