Every detail and part of each recipe served at the restaurant is made from complete scratch, from the pasta and sauces, to the puff pastry and creams in our delicious desserts!
We also serve special dinners off menu which can be reserved in advance, ranging from $37 to $45 per person. These special dinners consist of a family style 3 course meal with an abundant amount of tastings for each course with different tastes of cuisines based on meat, seafood/fish, and vegetarian recipes.
Besides dining in and carrying out, Daniela is also available to cater your special events such as weddings, graduations, birthdays, etc.
everything yummy from beginning to end-I am Celiac so no gluten-Daniela came out of kitchen with GF floured hands as she was making fresh gluten free pastas to order! Amazing meat canneloni with tomato and bechamel sauce
This was my second time there- cannot wait to return-its so nice for someone gluten free to know they can eat comfortably and without worry that their food will not be contaminated with regular flour-in addition -there are so many gluten free choices-but to get gluten free FRESH homemade pasta is a dream come true
Daniela made my requested Fettuccine al Ragú which wasn’t on the menu. Such delicious food that melts in your mouth and wonderful service. We’ll be back...often!!
Love this place.
Dined there twice last week.
Food is always wonderful and service is beautiful. Tried a new dessert which was spectacular and refreshing: a swirl of lemon and vanilla gelato. It was perfect after the spicy dish I had eaten.
I particularly love the ambiance which is reminiscent of a restaurant in an Italian village.
Daniela is an undiscovered GEM! Had dinner their last night and going back for lunch tomorrow. Our food was totally spectacular and served beautifully by Daniela's son, Stefan. We also watched everything coming out of the kitchen and every dish looked magnificent.
Food was great. No complaints
Maybe I just hit Daniela on an off night. Or ordered the wrong items. My experience doesn't read like most of the other reviews on here.
I started with a Caesar salad. Yep... I forgot about the on-going Romaine scare. Daniela's didn't. They served up a plate of under-dressed iceberg with a few croutons and a heavy covering of tasteless shaved cheese. For $12. This was not a good start. You should definitely tell diners that you're going to substitute iceberg. I would've chosen another starter had I known.
Friends had recommended the veal, so I ordered that. The menu says it is "double sauteed". It had the textured of being fried. It was very crispy. And overcooked. And dry. And a small portion. And tasted a bit of too-old grease. And was $21.00. It was served with a side of "parsley potatoes", which were actually mashed potatoes with a LOT of lemon juice. And no parsley.
The waiter recommended the tiramisu. He was right - it is very good.
The service was warm and friendly.
I was there with friends/clients, so didn't feel comfortable sending food back. I would definitely have done so if I had been dining alone.
the best Italian restaurant in Baltimore. Hand made pasta, fresh ingredients, superb cooking
We enjoyed a family dinner here this past week. The service was fine, the staff was very friendly, and the gnocchi was fabulous, especially the pesto marinara sauce that accompanied it!
Outstanding! Great setting in a house in Hamden, exceptionally friendly service and truly outstanding food. I don't know why it took us so long to discover this place but it's now on our list of favorites.
Excellent Italian food. Homemade pasta with a Sardinian twist to it. We forgot to pick up our credit card. I called the next day. They had it!!!!! In an old converted row home in the Hampden neighborhood. Family-run. Super helpful with menu suggestions. Our waiter was the owner's son. Will definitely return.
absolutely wonderful place for a meal. great service. family vibe with owner and her family. service was great. food was beyond wonderful.
A bit much for our single server to manage. He did his best, but it was a bit too much for him. This was a special family occasion for us, and unfortunately it didn’t feel too special. We were squeezed into the six person table. Food was quite nice except for a dry cold desert pastry
loved the food and our waiter was excellent. would recommend this place to others looking for a good dining experience.
I brought six friends for dinner as my Christmas gift to them. So, of course, I wanted it to be special. I have been there before and loved the food, setting and charming, attentive staff. Unfortunately the staff and kitchen were overwhelmed by customers and underwhelmed by staff. They tried their best and were characteristically pleasant but they were just swamped. Three of the seven dishes were not up to their usual homemade standards (one went mostly uneaten because of "glumpy" pasta and the asparagus on another was limp and tasteless). The strudel tasted store bought. The soups, lasagna and tiramisu, however, were up to their usual wonderful, home made standards. And the nearly private room was a very special setting.
I trust this night was an aberration and I will return. Since this was their only experience there, however, I do not think my friends will.
We had a early dinner. We were in a separate room(it’s two rowhouses)by ourselves after a family left so we were able to carry a conversation without a problem. The service was just fine. The food was delicious and nicely proportioned. When we left others were seated in our room and the main dining room was full. The tables are close but not really loud.
Food is delicious and atmosphere is casual and friendly. It is a wonderful family business.
It was our first time at Daniela’s and we will definitely be back! We had a table for 8 and everyone loved their food and great service and very friendly staff!
GOOD ITALIAN FOOD IN A PLEASANT SETTING. ALL ITALIAN WINE LIST, WITH SEVERAL WINES NOT TYPICALLY FOUND ON LOCAL WINE LISTS. ALL WINES (EXCEPT SPECIAL LIST) ARE REASONABLE. THE FRITTO MIXTO INCLUDED FRIED WHOLE SMALL ANCHOVIES, COMMON IN ITALY, RARE IN USA.
Here I give 5 stars for full marks - it's not a global 5-star (or even Michelin star) experience, but it's the best pasta I've had in Baltimore (having lived here more than 25 years). It's like an authentic bit of Little Italy moved North to Hampden. Great service, table visit from the owner... Will return.
We absolutely loved this place! What an awesome find! I was just looking for a place near the miracle on 34th street light display and stumbled upon this gem! They didn’t have any reservations available for the original date we wanted to go, so I postponed the lights a day later, and I’m so glad we did! Everything is so fresh and homemade. The desserts are to die for and the staff was so accommodating. Will definitely be adding this to my favorites in baltimore!
Quality spot! If you want authentic Italian, this is about as good as it gets with handmade pasta and sauce. We were given the wrong wine - that was literally only thing negative but they said they had discussed it and thought it was comparable (just didn’t let me know until after we asked about it). Regardless, I will definitely go back.
I can't believe that we didn't know about Ristorante Daniela. This is a fabulous find right in the middle of Hampden. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are three rooms. It is a bit crowded but not in the way that New York restaurants are. We had plenty of room at our table and were not bothered by conversations at other tables in the room. The service was outstanding. Our server is the girlfriend of the owner's nephew and had tried everything on the menu. She was able to assist us as we ordered in a very friendly way. She was pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. The food and wine were incredible. We ordered a bottle of Sardinian wine, which was smooth, tasty and just the right accompaniment to our food. We (the two of us!) finished the bottle. I had the veal scallopine and my husband had the fregula. Both were delicious. The veal was thin, tender and cooked perfectly in a sauce that was tasty. Too often veal scallopine can be overcooked and dry. Not so at Ristorante Daniela. My husband ordered the fregula not having had it before but found it very tasty. We'll be back in short order!
Daniela is a wonderful quiet local restaurant with Sardinia region almost like home cooked meals, Daniela cooks herself in the kitchen. Her son serves and is very friendly and personable. The wine choices are excellent, the food is always delicious, the service is very friendly and prompt and its very quiet, great for dates or dinner with couples. Consistently a winner and everyone I've sent there Loves it. For a quiet evening with great food, gotta check this place out.
Wonderful - warm friendly comfortable and excellent food
It wasn’t too busy at 6 on a Tuesday so it was relatively quiet. I think it would be pretty quiet in general because it is composed of three small dining rooms.
We ordered two entrees and they were both very good and generous portions. My chicken rolls (involutini) in a porcini mushroom sauce with saffron risotto was outstanding!
Stefano waited on us flawlessly. Checked back to make sure everything was good, plates arrived hot, etc.
We had never heard of the restaurant and yet it has been around for a couple of years and has extremely high ratings. Most of our friends we have now mentioned it to (and recommended it to) have never heard of it either. They should do more publicity. The food is billed as Sardinian which means it is Italian with a bit of a twist. All the better. Wonderful made in-house past. Creative dishes. We really liked it.
Meal was loaded with more salt than I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Large flakes of Kosher salt covering each dish as if they were Philly pretzels.
Such a great restaurant. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our date. The food and the environment were perfect. We enjoy getting to know what sardinian food is like.
Our first time eating Sardinian good. Absolutely delicious and wonderful, knowledgeable service. Loved the atmosphere: felt like eating at home.
Great, authentic Italian food in a lovely setting served by delightful wait staff. Can't wait to return.
This was our first time to Daniela's, but it definitely won't be the last. The setting is 2 converted row homes in Hampden, and it is decorated very nicely. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, without being intrusive.
I ordered the crab soup to share with my husband, and although it had a tomato base, it wasn't a creamy or thick tomato base like Maryland crab soup, but much thinner than that. It has only crab and shrimp in it, no vegetables, and was very flavorful and delicious.
I also ordered the side Caesar salad -- and it was very good! The shaved Parmesan cheese was plentiful and really added to the flavor of the salad. Nice creamy dressing on the salad.
For my main entree, I had the Malloreddus - and oh my heavens, was it ever good! The sausage was so tender and the pasta and red sauce was great. I saved 1/2 and my husband had it for lunch the next day. He loved it as well.
My husband ordered the mushroom lasagna, and he said it was good, but he liked the Malloreddus better. Our friends ordered the branzino and also the veal scallopine, and both were delighted with their choice. The bread / butter is good, too, but they only bring 1 slice per person, you can order more for a price.
We chose to eat dessert at the Charmery, so we passed up on the desserts at Daniela's, but they looked fabulous!
The only thing that was odd was that we ordered the Cabernet Sauvignon from the wine list, and while we got a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, it was not the one listed on the wine list.
We learned about Daniela's because they participate in the Taste of Blakefield, and we enjoyed their food samples there, and thought we would patronize their business. So glad that we did!
Great authentic Sardinian cuisine! Home made pasta was spectacular. Stefano, our waiter, was wonderful. They take pride in their work as a family operated restaurant. Obviously a labor of love. Can’t wait to go back with friends and family.
The food was delicious and the service was even better! The restaurant could use a makeover, but all else compensates!
Such good food, 100% worth it
Four of us drove up from Washington, DC to dine at Cafe Daniela with Baltimore friends! We read about the chef from Sardinia and loving Italy we thought we'd give Daniela's a try! It exceeded expectations! Amazing Italian crab soup, delicious branzino and seafood, and homemade pasta that was out of this world! Quaint ambience like we were in Daniela's house! Can't forget to mention amazing tiramisu for dessert - not to be missed!
I wanted the experience to be a good one however it was not. The entrees were barely eatable, over salted pasta or no flavor at all. Unfortunate
Wife and I celebrated our anniversary here and it was wonderful. Felt like we were back in Italy.
I have been surprising people for years at Daniella’s. Not only is the food superb and authentic, you feel like family and can relax. Italians typically leave you have the table as long as you like. It’s a sin of so many restaurants today that the give you a napkin and put you on a timer at the same moment to turn the table.
We had a good quality hour and a half relaxing and were really able to enjoy our friends and the whole evening. Thank you Stephano and Daniella!!!
Absolutely fantastic. The pastas and sauces are all hand made by the owner, and you can taste the difference. The Fregula con Cocculas and the Veal Scallopini might be some of the best food I’ve ever eaten.
Great place and close to home. Love their house made lasagna! Service is always good.
