The service was excellent. Choice of beverages very good. Ambiance good. Been at the restaurant four times in the last 8 months and the Menu choices haven’t changed and limited. Time to change the menu. Skip the smoked salmon - a little too “unsmoked” in the middle.
Our waiter was knowledgeable and made great suggestions!
We enjoyed ourselves very much.
Absolutely loved our time at Riviere. Best Negroni, amazing oysters & ricotta gnudi wonderful.
Service was excellent, the food tasty and fresh....the seafood chowder was served lukewarm and could have been warmer....price was steep but well worth it
Overall the ambiance was nice and we enjoyed the cocktails but felt that the food was overpriced for the quality of the dishes we received- the lobster pasta was tiny and quite mediocre for 40$.
The pacing of our meal could have been better. I like to have time to savour my pre-dinner drink, especially in a restaurant like Riviera that has such an impressive beverage menu! Our entrees were brought to our table long before our drinks were finished. When I commented on this, our server said that pasta dishes don’t take long to prepare! In a restaurant of this calibre, I would expect the staff to be more aware of the timing of the delivery of our food and drinks.
The service and food were excellent. It was a bit noisy as the restaurant was completely full by 7:30pm on a Thursday but we got used to it and it contributed to the cool vibe in the restaurant. The bar seats were full and the staff seemed quite engaged with the patrons sitting there. You go here for really great food, good service (not pretentious) and a cool vibe. You don’t go her if you were expecting quiet conversation.
Beautiful restaurant with great food. A little pricy for lunch menu but worth the experience for a special occasion. The staff is wonderful, overall great experience I would definitely return
Great food and great atmosphere but a bit loud! The server was very professional and helpful!
Very nice evening with very good food and drinks. Excellent service and very nice setting! A must in Ottawa and we will be back!
As always, terrific food and wonderful service. Always a pleasure to come here.
My Directo stated that he enjoyed everything about this place (other then it was just a teensy bit packed with people, and of course, to be expected on Sparks st - no parking...) - he will be returning and is advising others to check Riveira out as he enjoyed his experience!
Interesting interior and nice ambiance, however, the ventilation of the space is not perfect.
Due to the open space concept of the kitchen, there was a strong smell of burned oil in the restaurant.
The food was good, but not excellent.
Tuna Nduja served on a big white bread toast, was too salty and spicy. Chicken liver was a bit too salty. Burrata was good. Tagliatelle w. hen was very simple and the portion was small. Crumbed euro bass was salty.
Desserts were very good.
Cocktail sizes are small.
Lovely evening out. Foo, atmosphere and service were exceptional.
Food was good, innovative and well presented. Only criticism was the lack of innovative preparation for the peas which were “just peas”. Service was excellent with an extremely helpful server. Atmosphere was a little too like a glorified cafe for my liking.
We enjoyed a very nice evening at Riviera. Our experience mirrored most of the reviews I'd read... an excellent bar, a very competent kitchen, outstanding service, and very high prices.
We made a reservation via OpenTable, only seeing options for a 9PM seating, but asked for an earlier table if available - the next day, we were called an secured a 7:30 slot. Though the table wasn't quite ready when we arrived, a high-top at the bar was provided for us to start off with a drink. The cocktails we ordered were good - the Smoky Old-Fashioned, the Penicillin, and a Pisco Sour. However, they weren't overly large despite the considerably high pricing. Once we were seated at our table, the tuna crudo appetizer was beautifully plated, fresh and very tasty, though a bit soggy with olive oil. The mushrooms on toast seem to be a favorite of other reviewers and it's easy to understand why... the dish was fabulous.
Our fish entrees were both delicious - both the Euro bass and the dill-pickle-chip encrusted halibut were cooked and presented beautifully, and the sauce and veg complemented the dishes very nicely. The sommelier offered knowledgeable recommendations and we ended up with a very nice wine that paired well with both our entrees. The cheese plate we ordered for dessert was a nice size and the cheese was deliciously gooey and easy to spread. Though the server forgot the nut allergy I'd noted with my reservation, serving nut crackers - they recovered very quickly with some delicious toasted brioche which was much appreciated. The ambiance is very lively and fun - lighting, music, décor and service all combined to provide a very nice and welcoming atmosphere. This is a great venue to celebrate a special occasion. As mentioned, pricing is not for the faint of heart. This is the highest pricing we've seen in Ottawa, and though the experience was overall very good, it feels a little aggressive. At very close to $400 for two, we can't afford to return often!
Really fine meal but prices will keep it totally out of reach for many. They have done their best to flatten noise in high ceiling old bank but if person has hearing issues it would be tough. The service was very attentive too
This was my second visit to Riviera, the first time I was really impressed but I was a bit disappointed with the food this time. Service was great but we ordered the mushroom toast and steak frites and both dishes were so salty! I was looking forward to the steak that I had heard great things about but our steaks came covered in the sauce which was really salty and we couldn’t escape it. I had seen pictures on social media of a steak someone had just a few days earlier and theirs wasn’t swimming in sauce so not sure why ours were. Just wish I got to enjoy the actual meat more and had the option to have a bite without so much saltiness.
Had a great dinner before going to a play. Service was fast and attentive while not rushing us at all. Another really good experience
Great food and great service.
The Riviera is a must-visit when in Ottawa. Food was delicious. We started off with the unforgettable seafood chowder, and the tasty tuna crudo with crispy quinoa although it was a tad salty for me. The lobster spaghetti is a must-order, paired well with the mushroom toast. Great choice for an anniversary dinner. The staff even greeted us for our anniversary but it would have been nice if they gave a little amuse bouche or small dessert to celebrate it. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant, which I already have!
Great! Drinks are amazing! We had thre the seafood tower which was deliscious! Service and ambiance were great!
Great experience and good as always
Welcoming, drinks where well crafted
We started with The shrimp on the iceberg lettuce which was fresh and delicious then they brought us the mushroom on toasted brioche it was spectacular.
What can I say about the TAGLIATELLE W. BRAISED HEN & PISTACHIO YUM
Menu was confusing and intimidating, to many items, no descriptions. Drink menu was equally confusing. Overall the dishes left much to be desired and while appearing to fine dining, felt incoherent and poorly thought out. If you are going to drop 300$ on dinner there are far better venues in Ottawa.
Great experience and perfect food as always!
This is likely the best meal I've ever had--subtle, inspiring, and a true joy to eat. I hope to have another opportunity to return.
Really interesting interior. Good responsive service. Good boozey cocktails if expensive. Food was just fine - it's basically pasta or meat potato and veg. Nothing tasted all that original. Presentation was on par with a chain restaurant. I had dill chip crusted halibut with fava beans and potatoes. Potato was a basic boiled potato. Fava beans tasted essentially of nothing and did nothing to complement the flavours. Halibut was nice maybe a tad chewy. Whole thing smothered in a one-note dill sauce. Price was eye-watering.
Service was excellent. Burger came medium rare. Should probably tell guest that is how it is served. Many people aren't comfortable with medium rare. It was sent back and another was cooked well done. Chicken in chicken milanese was a bit tough and over done. Tasty but was hard to cut and tough in the taste. Wine selection was great. Music was loud. Seating was very comfortable.
The food and ambience of Riviera are outstanding. When paying that much for a fine meal, I do not appreciate being blasted by loud rock music. The owners should consider how loud music adversely impacts an otherwise first-class dining experience.
We love sitting at the bar and watching the chefs, found the food too salty overall. Bar stools are too close to the bar for some, would be nice to be able to adjust the distance between the bar and the chair. Music a little too loud for us. It was our 6th visit and the music seem better in the early days. Overall a very pleasant experience.
You were amazing. What a pleasure to meet you. You always have a space at our table. Please stay in touch:) 604/551-7331. Warm regards Parise and Egbert
Food was very disappointing. I ordered composed steak salad med rare. Steak was overcooked and extremely salty. The beans were drenched in the sauce which was also too salty. Unfortunately it was a client meeting and I wasn't going to send it back.
We were on time for our reservation and we were sat right away by a friendly host, but our server was slammed when we arrived. As a result of being too busy (and by her own admission) it took a long time to be greeted by her at the table and then she forgot our initial drink order and had to come back to the table to ask us for our order again, causing another delay. Our server was apologetic about these mishaps, but that didn’t help the speed of service. After that, service evened out, but it was never exceptional - just ok. A second person who stopped by our table to ask “have you been served yet?” offered to answer menu questions, but he incorrectly described a dish we asked about by telling us the pasta was stuffed with polenta (he meant pancetta) which didn’t instill confidence in his menu knowledge. Our cocktails (once they arrived) were well-prepared. The raw menu items (tuna crudo and beef tartare) were exceptional. Our wine by the glass was good. The pastas were tasty, but shockingly small. We are used to pasta courses that aren’t the typical Americanized huge portions, but the lobster spaghetti was literally three forkfuls of pasta. The hen pasta was similarly small. The taste of both was great but we were left feeling a lack of value for the price. As mentioned, we weren’t expecting huge portions but ours were shockingly small. The bottle of wine we ordered was recommended by our server and it was excellent. Dessert was cheese (excellent) and crepe brûlée (not set - runny - very disappointing).
We have been to Riviera before and had a much better experience. For me, this time was a miss. Mostly due to the pasta and the dessert. For the price, we have higher standards for value and quality.
Very loud buzz in busy restaurant. That’s ok if you aren’t looking for a romantic dinner. The background music was extremely loud and more like a rock concert than dining ambience but I guess if you are ok with loud rock behind your expensive dining experience, it’s fine.
Prices are very high.
Excellent seafood tower and Sancerre. Ambiance is great, trendy. Have been there several times, never disappoints.
Love this restaurant, it’s like walking into an episode of Mad men. Great food and the drinks are really original. Must try
Food was very mediocre for the price and hype. I got the riv burger and I would compare it to a slightly better a&w burger. The tuna was also ok, nothing special. Service was really good though, and I did enjoy the atmosphere.
Terrific absolutely terrific
