The drinks were good and service was amazing , Bobbie is one of the best servers I had in a while. He was up beat and funny and a great server. Oysters great as always but the food selection and quality good be a bit better for the price point.
Our server was amazing and made the experience that much better.
The place was very quiet as it was Monday lunch. The waiter missed putting my partners meal in so he got his well after mine came. He did come to the table and apologies for it but nothing was sorted on the bill. Marks for copping to the miss but more could have been done. Plus the waiter didn't pay attention at the end and another server had to bring the bill and the CC machine for payment. I'll give them another chance as the food was good, but another miss would be two strikes.
This is a regular spot for us to dine. We sit at the bar. The service is always perfect. The oysters are excellent and sometimes we try other menu items - all have been well prepared and tasty! But again, service is what brings us back, it must be a well run restaurant as many of the staff have been there since opening. Very rare these days. We are always greeted with a smile. It is fun to sit at the bar and chat with the staff as they work. They are a pretty entertaining crew!!! Favourite dishes : oysters ( of course), scallops, New England clam chowder.
*(Even the fish and chips at the take out is excellent- but I had a rude server over there last year and haven’t returned to the take out area. )
Was an OK experience. We went there for our anniversary and spent about $280. We ordered some oysters and they were fresh and tasty - they come with a variety of decent sauces. However we also ordered a $80 bottle of wine and they forgot about it. So it came after the oysters - note that they did give us 4 extra oysters for free in compensation. For mains we ordered a 2lb lobster and the crab cakes to share. The lobster was not good. It was overcooked so it was chewy, the claws ended up being the best part. Not great for around $90. The crab cakes were quite good and that was the better dish. Dessert were good, the chocolate mousse in particular was very tasty. Was a shame they did not offer a latte or espresso, only drip to go with the dessert.
Date night for my wife and I (married 32 years). The restaurant was quite noisy due to an after work crowd in the back. The rest of the restaurant was not very busy. The wait staff are not assigned a specific section or set of tables - everyone serves every table. Sounds like a good concept, but unfortunately this meant we got minimal attention through the 2 1/2 hrs we spent at the restaurant. The land and sea (steak and shrimp) dish was very good. My wife had the Dungeness Crab dish which was good but messy of course. We were surprised the Crab did not come with any side dishes. Overall experience was okay, but should have been so much better for the price.
I liked the atmosphere and service was great, he gave us samples of beer to try and even made us a scallop so we could try how they were prepared, which wasn’t to our liking. We were told the crab cakes were broiled and lump crab meat with no filler, so we ordered 2 orders. They were not that, on the fried, crispy side, and ground meat with a lot of filler and mayonnaise. We sent them back. I do have to say that I’m from Virginia Beach, Va and super spoiled with fresh, delicious seafood everywhere.
The food portions were extremely over priced. It took a long time for our server to even take our order. The food was fresh but very bland, the sea food lacked anything other than the fact it was right out of water.
The place had great curb appeal but was over run by the outrageously busy and tight atmosphere. Which is weird to say considering how big it was. I wouldn't go there again. If I'm paying 200 dollars to eat, I want to leave full.
Excellent restaurant, delicious Food!! Good service!! I love the resturant!!
Waitress was rude. I asked for some more butter for the bread, a cup of hard cubes butter was slammed on the table as the waitress walked by...not even eye contact much less a discernible word spoken(and I still gave her a 10$ tip!!!)
Although it was replaced free of charge, the fish wasn’t cooked; the batter was like eating pancake mix(gross!!!)
These two things were understandable and I wasn’t that disappointed but, the photos on the walls of the bathrooms were deplorable!!! I, my girlfriend, and her daughter as well were disgusted with the “artwork” (and I use that term loosely...”in the eye of the beholder” and all considered, I and my family found them in extremely poor taste.
We won’t be back nor will we be recommending Rodney’s to any of our friends or colleagues.
Overall disgusted. Would’ve been better pleased at McDonald’s for a LOT LESS $
Everything was epic!! Will be back!! :-)
Best oysters I have had in a long time!
Best seafood place in Calgary. If you have a craving for oysters this is the place to go.
All was great but it’s just a big space if not many patrons which was the case at lunch today.
We made a reservation. We were seated at an elevated table after requesting a booth. We ordered a drink and water. We were then relocated to a non elevated table. One glass of water made it to our table with us. We then waited 15 minutes for anyone to notice us even though the host had seated us. Our original waiter came by and asked us if everything was ok. We explained that we had been moved-no one had informed him. Then another waiter came to serve us. We asked if our drinks were ready and if we could have water. 10 minutes later we had water. At this point our original server again came by and asked if all was well. We told him no, it wasn’t. We finally got out food and drinks -which were superb! No one asked if we wanted another drink or dessert or anything. We paid and left. We are fairly reasonable people. This was a rare time we were out without or children.
I had to Oysters and my partner had the Cobb salad. Both equally delicious. I can hardly wait to have another plate of their Oysters. Service was great.
We had a family get together that included 5 adults, a two year old and a new born. Staff were immediately friendly and accommodating. Food was provided in a timely manner and was very good. We had an excellent time in an unhurried and friendly atmosphere. We look forward to returning.
Since moving to Calgary from Vancouver, Rodney’s has been our ‘go to’ place for oysters. We thoroughly enjoy the ambience, and the servers are friendly and professional without being stuffy.
Fresh oysters are hands down our favourite and Rodney’s never fail to deliver quality and variety.
The King Salmon entre was a winner and the lobster roll is always a favourite.
100% recommend - service is outstanding, knowledgeable and fun! Fantastic food!
Best Calamari ever! Oysters Rockefeller were excellent and my lobster was amazing! Atmosphere had a clean crisp maritime feel to it.
friendly service & great food, interesting decor good location
Great for oysters had some awesome choices good quality. Dinner was delicious and pleasant atmosphere service was spot on.
Quite a nice looking restaurant. But "looks" more fancy than it is. The menu lacks descriptions so you really don't know what you're getting. Waitstaff is nice but lacks enthusiasm for the job or the restaurant. For an oyster bar theres little info about the oysters theselves (i.e. flavour profiles, different locations produce different tasting oysters but they don't explain that). Food is very much over priced. The quality is mediocre, and nothing is done very well. It's as though no one running the restaurant actually cares. Theres no passion in the food nor the business.
Love coming for oysters!!! Best in the city !!!
Fantastic happy hour, fantastic food, fantastic service!!!!!
Rodney's never disappoints! The best part is how passionate the staff are. Their wine recommendation was on point for the monkfish. Food is always exceptional!!
Great service and great food.
Disappointing this time - good food let down by lackadaisical service. Needs more management attention to sort out.
The service was amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and want to make sure you get the best experience. They are knowledgeable and kind. The food was fantastic. Would absolutely recommend to friends.
Unfortunately we waited 15 minutes and still didn’t get our drink order in. The menu was overpriced but we didn’t wait around to try anything as the service was lacking and no one paid any attention to us at all. I can’t comment on the food or anything but there’s better places than this price wise. I enjoy the Vancouver location but Calgary service needs a ton of improvement. First time walking out like that
The oysters are very good, great selection, fresh and accompanied with the right condiments.
The rest of the menu is bland, if not surprisingly boring.
Most of the regular menu is greasy, i.e., the lobster roll and the fish and chips. Yes they need to be on the fatty side, but they could be executed better. The fries are an after thought.
Wine list acceptable, with low priced to medium priced bottles that complement the menu.
Some people could consider the place expensive, but oysters add up quickly.
Only drawback is that the wooden chairs are somewhat uncomfortable.
Was an excellent meal great atmosphere and oysters were delightful;)
We took family there who were visiting from Ontario. Great food, ambience and decor, and lovely drinks! Rob helped make our dining experience memorable with his stories and humorous antics. Can’t wait to come back - fix that salad dressing though Rob, lol! We had so much fun - Our guests are looking forward to visiting the King Street location in Toronto.
We have been to Rodney's several times. We love the oyster selection, knowledge and energy. If you are looking for fresh seafood, service and atmosphere... look no further. It will not disappint.
Excellent Sea food, and Oysters
Fantastic dinner and service
Been here a gazillion time in the past and always been one of their biggest fans, however last night, the service was very disappointing.. That is if it could even be categorized as ‘service’.
Service was indifferent. A full glass of water dropped in my husband’s lap by the server. Very little contact with server, we would have ordered more food/wine but server was no where to be found.
Don’t know why this was our first time here, if you love seafood these guys know how to prepare it!
Oysters Macintosh were amazing, along with white wine mussels to die for. Crab cakes that actually tasted like crab cakes, scallops that were prepared perfectly and the ceviche was so refreshing in the pallet it was perfect for a hot day.
Can’t wait to try other items on the menu, we will be back!
