   $105 per person for omakase here is worth every penny. You have the option to pay $50 more if you want wagyu and better ingredients. The menu is constantly changing so the waitress actually personally wrote down the names of the dishes for me. You get a whole lot more than ordering a la carte.

   I have been a regular at Roka Akor since it opened in River North and frequent it at least once every four to six weeks. The management, wait- and kitchen-staff not only meet but most often exceeds my expectations for good quality and well prepared food, beverage and service. They go the extra mile to meet my dietary meeds and most often are agreeable to the substitutions or other modifications to my entrees. The various dumplings, sushi & sashimi, Chilean sea bass, black cod, lamb chops and wild mushroom/rice hot pot are always great selections. Many thanks for creating memorable dining experiences.

   I don’t know how this place is still in business. What you get compared to what you are paying is absolutely ridiculous. There are sushi places in the city that have salmon nigiri that are 4 times the size of Roka’s. It’s embarrassing. It’s a rip off joint. The only reason they get business is because of the location

   Bartenders were exceptional and Sushi was fantastic. Would not recommend the Tartare. Selection of spirits and craft cocktails very good. Again the friendly staff made the experience.

   Las recomendaciones de la camarera no fueron acertadas, la cantidad de comida que nos propuso fue realmente exagerada, 8 platos para dos personas…al ser la primera vez que fuimos la hicimos caso y sobró mucha comida, una pena porque la comida está muy buena, excepto la tempura de gambas que no merece la pena.

   Food was just not up to expectations for a premium place. Went for the omakase and quite honestly felt thoroughly underwhelmed. Worst offender was the wagyu beef, would not recommend.

   We had a great waiter that helped us through our dining experience. Roka Akor has a dynamic atmosphere, great sound system and interesting design. We started with tempura shrimp and had Wagyu filet and strip sirloin dinners. We added the street corn and grilled asparagus, both an excellent addition. We always come away raving about our visit.

    Way too noisy for no reason. Music off. Chef shouldn’t yell all internal orders. Tone it down! Other than this always good food and service.

    Food was just ok the only thing I enjoyed was the sashimi, it was great but for the price we paid for the rest of the food for two definitely not worth it . I enjoyed the sashimi but the prime ny strip was one of the toughest cuts I’ve ever had. Believe me we left hungry and 300 dollars short for one drink each , sushi and food I could have gotten anywhere. Definitely not the experience I hoped for . If it was different the price wouldn’t have been a problem but it hurt to pay for what we got.

    This was our second visit to Roka. First one was an unqualified home run -- excellent food, service and experience. This time it was subpar with service gaffs and chewy, gristle packed steak. The biggest miss was service that from beginning to end was just off. After seating our server quickly recited specials and then left. Nothing in writing and we were supposed to magically memorize all that? We put the food order in and my wife left to use the bathroom. The kitchen turned around the order with mystifying speed and a runner brought all of the dishes while she was away. An observant server would have made sure the food didn't come out until she was seated again, as such the food temperature wasn't optimal and server had just disappeared. We had a tuna maki that was bland and unremarkable. Rib eye was of lower quality and thus rubbery. All in all a mediocre night when Roka should be striving for a top drawer experience at these prices.

    They were very celebratory for my partner’s birthday! It was a wonderful experience. Re mushroom hot pot dish was stunning. The steak to die for. All the sashimi and sushi was top notch.

    Ten stars! The food was delicious and service was fantastic. We moved from Chicago six months ago, and Roka Akor was on our must do list on our first trip back. They did not disappoint! In particular, we loved the glazed pork ribs and the spicy tofu, but everything was wonderful. David is a great server. He remembered us from our time in Chicago, and he made sure our experience was first rate! We will be back whenever we return to Chicago.

    Delicious food, great ambience! We didn’t have the omakese experience, but had a bunch of apps, sushi, sides and entrees. Loved everything but the hot pot rice was only OK. Definitely recommend and for sure we will go again!

    Waiter never checked in, to the point where I had to go to the front to get someone to give me the check after 30 mins of waiting. The food was delicious, but soured by our experience with the waiter.

    Reservation for our aniversary at 9:30, was told we had to order everything right away because the kitchen was closing soon. Why did they accept the reservation if that was the case... very rushed. Also steak was overcooked and cold when it got to the table. Generally a disappointing experience especially when you consider how much the meal cost.

    The food was very expensive, and the sashimi was pretty bad. It was very mushy and didn't taste fresh. The redeeming factor was service as our waitress helped to take it off the bill. For such a high price, you can get much better Japanese food elsewhere. Compared to the location in London, it was incredibly disappointing and I'm genuinely surprised that this restaurant is as busy as it is.
