Root & Bone
We had a wonderful experience for my Mom’s 85th birthday. While we all loved the food, service, ambiance and general vibe, the noise level made conversation a bit difficult for those without perfect hearing. We’re definitely going back!
Loved the personality of our server Jaden. Food was fantastic as was presentation. The six of us thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Root & Bone.
We both enjoyed our meals, mine was the gnocchi while my friend had the lamb. They were plated beautifully and so many different flavors in each dish. Good size portions too! We got corn bread brought to the table as a free appetizer which was a nice touch. Cute little place!
This was a place serving food like non I've tasted in a long while. And I've eaten at Michelin star restaurants in France. Hard to believe a restaurant so amazing is in Fonthill
This is one of my favorite restaurants i have ever been to.
Great food and friendly service.
Interior is funky, but pleasant. Could benefit from some noise suppression.
Unique menu. Venison and smoked oysters were delicious.
A little pricy, but acceptable.
The food was amazing. Somehow the chef takes our local fresh produce no matter how humble (such as the carrot or tomatoe) and produces a taste sensation with it. The sauces are outstanding. Meat done to perfection. The service was friendly and sincere. We'll be back soon to work through the menu choices. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked so very yummy!
Rod and Brenda Kozar
It's great food. But tip top dollar. Maybe slightly on the overly expensive side. (My entree was 48 dollars) But definetley worth going now and again. Beat dinner I've ever had. Drinks are priced very fair.
All around perfect !
This was our 2nd time visiting this restaurant. Service is great....food is fantastic...location is central. It can be a bit noisy for some people. We look forward to returning
Fantastic restaurant and dinner. Love this restaurants
I travel North America extensively and get to try a lot of different restaurants. The best one that I have found so far and they keep blowing my expectations away is the Root and Bone....Ray, Paul and Jaden..and their team create an incredible and complete eating experience
Simply fabulous in every way! Remarkable staff, presentation, quality, and taste. We will undoubtedly be back to try more items on the menu.
Excellent food great service. Food is super fresh and cooked to perfection.
We had our first experience at Root & Bone this past Friday and it was outstanding! Great service from start to finish. Our food selections (from appetizers to desserts) were so well prepared and presented - absolutely delicious. Truly a culinary delight. Looking forward to many more fantastic meals at this wonderful restaurant!
Amazing as always. Heads and tails above many Niagara area restaurants. Perfect trifecta of ambiance, superb cooking and excellent, attentive service.
Food was outstanding and the presentation was extraordinary.
Great friendly service from everyone
Only issue would be to use a better whiskey for manahattan. Very bland. Certainly did not taint the overall experience.
Amazing food, great service, a little pricey. Definitely one of the best meals we’ve ever had.
Everything was great.
Great food in Fonthill- definitely the BEST restaurant in the area, and in my Top 5 for Niagara/Hamilton.
Appetizers: I ordered the squash blossoms appetizer (as did my friend)- panko breaded and fried with a nice acidic meyer lemon sauce. Tasty! My husband ordered the scallops + morels app, also great, but it was a small appetizer- only 2 scallops. I would have considered 3 scallops fitting for both the price, and the size of an app. But that's my only caveat with that app- I'd still order again.
Dinner: I ordered the striploin, which was perfectly done, and complemented nicely by heritage veggies that were tender yet crisp and full of flavour, and a blackberry demiglace which rounded it out with enough acid to create a great bite. The only thing I wasn't keen on were the "fondant potates" served with my striploin. Nothing about them said "fondant potato"- not the flavourful, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside fondant potatoes that I've experienced at other restaurants and in my own cooking (via CIA and French-trained recipes/chefs). These were dry, flavourless, and a mistake to put on a plate. It makes me wonder if Chef tasted them? My husband ordered the Sumac-crusted venison. He loved it. Our friend ordered the albacore tartare app for dinner and equally loved the gorgeous, silky tuna paired with a lovely sauce.
BONUS: the gorgeous sourdough bread (made in-house) and yeasted butter. Please keep this on the menu! I could eat that on its own and look forward to this experience when we come to the restaurant! They brought out samples of corn bread (hopefully as an amuse-bouche) which was ok, but hopefully not a teaser as a replacement for the sourdough. My mouth is watering thinking about it!
Thanks for putting so much loving energy into your food. I love the open kitchen environment that allows the diners to witness the process or the preparation and plating of our food. Also deeply appreciate the locally-sourced approach. <3
I wouldn’t classify the food as outstanding, but everything was very good with many local ingredients. The open kitchen concept is nice, and the service was excellent. Prices very reasonable in light of the quality.
My husband and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at Root and Bone this evening. The meal was absolutely wonderful. In fact, it may even be one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We started with the sourdough service, beef tartare and crab cakes. All were excellent but the tartare and bread were stand outs. The tartare was some of the best we have ever had. On the recommendation of all 3 servers we had the gnocchi and lamb for our entrees. Both were absolutely delicious. The lamb was hands down one of the best lamb dishes we have ever had. The gnocchi was spectacular as well.
We truly cannot say enough about this restaurant. The servers were all fantastic and it was great to chat with the chef. He was overly humble regarding his food and you can tell, thanks to the open kitchen, that’s he’s created a positive and fun environment for his staff. We’ve eaten at many restaurants with an open kitchen and this experience was special. You can tell that the servers respect the chef, the restaurant and the food and in return the chef respects them. It was so wonderful to see. We can’t wait to return. Take our advice, run, don’t walk, to Root & Bone. You’re going to love it!
Another fabulous all round dining experience at Root and Bone! Friends from out of town and I dined on a busy Saturday evening. They loved the overall energy of the restaurant. Every dish was excellent however we especially enjoyed the octopus and the foie gras which were both a daily special. Our dinner selections were delicious and beautifully presented and very generous portions. The staff as usual were very attentive and made us feel like rock stars! I look forward to my next visit!
Excellent service. Great corn bread amuse-bouche, in lieu of bread. The most expensive two scallops (per gram) that I have ever purchased. Tasty but tiny. Bison more medium than medium-rare, and the accompanying potato “square” a little pointless and lacking in flavour. Excellent coffee/capp. Creme brûlée dessert price in line with expectations and tasty, with excellent fruit selection accompaniment. Parking in rear, with incredibly narrow walkway to front entrance, ... just walk around the block.
Great restaurant. Amazing food. Put it on your to do list. Service impeccable .
Fantastic local restaurant. Big city standards in food and service.
The quality of the food is amazing. Chef Ray is fantastic. Ambience of restaurant is wonderful. They have paid attention to every detail in the restaurant from the washrooms with chalkboard wall to write on to the copper cutlery from Germany. Well worth a visit.
We were warmly welcomed to the restaurant - empty when we arrived - it soon filled up and even full, noise level was moderate - great open kitchen view and the food was FABULOUS - try the tuna strips - to die for
Don't usually have dessert but we decided to spurge and glad we did - peach cobbler was dreamy@
Will definitely go back
Warning - it's pricey.
Absolutely amazing, took boyfriend for his birthday was exceptionally perfect thank you will be back again
As usual, Root and Bone was a fantastic experience. The food was perfect, the service was excellent and the ambience is always fantastic. We were served by both Jayden (our favourite) and chef, who is so pleasant and personable. It is definitely a treat for us to go to Root and Bone, and we are always so glad that is the restaurant we choose for our special date nights. We can’t wait to go back again.
Amazing! We will definitely be back. Several healthy food options. Delicious!!
Food was delicious! Would definitely return. Well prepared and beautifully presented!
Food and service was as usual exemplary. The seasonal adjustments and specials continue to allow the offerings to evolve and provide new experiences. 4th visit and have been consistently happy each time, either by ourselves or with others. Would urge any and all to give them a try.
Lucky to have such a fabulous restaurant in Fonthill. Its a first class venue where everything works. Worth the drive to Niagara.
Birthday dinner on a Tuesday night. Appetizers were very good, tuna ribbons was outstanding. Had specials of evening... shrimp, scallops pasta and strip steak... both delicious , wonderful flavor in sauces..a bit pricey but worth it ... will be back
Incredible food, incredible service. Was a quiet night and I prefer a louder restaurant in general but absolutely loved it and would go back again. The chef should be congratulated.
We had an outstanding time. The food and service was amazing. We will most defiantly be back.
So fortunate to have a restaurant of this quality in our community. Highly recommend!
