Always my first choice when we come to NY. This time we were celebrating 🍾 a birthday. The staff brought dessert with a candle and the hostess took us upstairs to see the bear and faerie tree. Absolutely beautiful.

This was a great high tea experience in New York City. The ambiance was amazing and the food was really good too. I think I liked the sandwiches more than the sweets though. I definitely want to come back and try more of the food.

We went for afternoon tea. The sandwiches were stale and the baked goods were mediocre. Super dry scones, seemed like the food had been sitting out all day. No one even asked if we wanted more tea. Big disappointment.

We loved that RTR looked original. We liked our meal. The servers seemed indifferent and aloof, which we find in many places today. Not sure why. Beautiful restaurant, good food. A facelift, especially downstairs, would be necessary to bring this restaurant to a 4 or higher. And staff that truly cares about RTR would make a world of difference. Thank you for the gift of revisiting an icon that brings decades of memories.

We got to the RTR 1/2 hour early and were seated right away, but the waiter did not take our order for 1/2 hour after we got there and they did not bring us any rolls and butter until after that. The food was excellent and the only other problem was them not bringing me my tea at the end of the meal and I had to ask for it. When it came it was just average. All in all, it was a lovely experience.

We were really looking forward to High Tea at the Russian tea room for Mother’s Day. Our reservation was for 2:30 PM. They were crowded so they took us to an upstairs room which we should’ve known was a mistake to begin with. We would have much preferred the old world ambience of the original restaurant instead of the dining hall overflow feel of upstairs. From when we sat down it took 45 minutes to bring a tray of sandwiches, the trays were incomplete and missing different sandwiches on different trays, which they had to rectify by bringing them on a separate plate. It took another 45 minutes and at least half a dozen requests to bring our tea. We are now an hour and a half into sitting down have just received our beverage. It took over half an hour again to receive our scones and sweets tray again, incomplete. They had to go back down to the kitchen to get the missing pieces. The scones were over cooked and the sweets were sparse and ordinary, heaped with sickly sweet frosting. overall, to be clear again, we finally received our last food item. 2+ hours after sitting down. I would say this is the largest dining disappointment I’ve ever had made all the worse by the circumstances. One thing you can’t get back in life is time and this was supposed to be a special time on Mother’s Day for myself and my daughters. Please do not waste your time to go there.

I was totally disappointed with the food n service not just because their prices are very high for what you order. First, the rolls were days old n you could not even cut them with a knife. We told our waitress n she didn’t even offer to replace. The onion soup was disappointing- very runny n nothing special for $28.00. My Beef Wellington was small n very little pastry n fall off immediately and nothing surrounding the beef inside the pastry n just an average beef. Didn’t melt in your mouth for $65.00. My daughter’s steak was just ok and again nothing special. Our Cosmopolitan’s for $30 each was the only thing good thing about the evening. I took my daughter there to celebrate Mother’s Day because we were there 21 years ago. It was an excellent restaurant back then. I do not recommend the Russian Tea Room to anyone !!!!

Sorry Russian Tea Room, but I compared you to the Drake Tea Room and it has you beat by far. Particularly, you use tea bags, they have loose tea. You had no creme fraise, they make it every day, you use good ole packaged sliced bread, they do not. Lemon curd-missing, sugar cubes, missing. Harpsichord player taking requests, missing. Just saying. If I am going to pay a lot of money, I want a great experience.

I have never experienced such a poor showing for afternoon tea. Wow, using Stash Tea bags and not loose leaf tea for $99 per person is in Very Poor taste. The scones were firm like over done biscuits and I had to ask for clotted cream which was hard like butter. This is a sentimental establishment which is taking for granted the love of formal afternoon tea.

We have been coming to the Russian Tea Room for many years as part of our Annual Broadway trip. Since Covid the food quality has slipped a bit. I don’t know if this is due to a staff change or some other reason. While the borscht was excellent, the Côtelette à la Kiev was dry and a bit overcooked. The Boeuf à la Stroganoff was similarly overcooked and had little sauce. We noticed a similar problem last year and hoped it was just a bad night.

The ambiance is really incredible, well worth a visit just for that. Overall the food was good, not great. The drinks while good were ridiculously overpriced even by premium NYC standards, a regular well cocktail was $30! The service was good, nothing to really complain about but not overly friendly or warm either. The food came out way to quickly and did not really give you time between cockatails and courses, that should not be acomplaint in an establishment of this caliber. It is a little past its prime, but still an impressive spot and worth going to for a special occasion just on its look and ambiance alone.

Take my review with a grain of salt as this was the first tea I’ve experienced. The tea room was amazing and beautifully decorated. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious although I thought the quality/quantity for the price was a bit off. Spending time chatting among such grand artwork and ambience with friends made up any shortcomings I perceived in the value. Overall, the place is absolutely charming. There were 4 of us and we did the high tea. I would 100% recommend the Russian Tea Room but next time I think I will go for a meal instead.

It’s like coming back to an old friend. Everything was seamlessly managed for a large table of 12. Service was a little late to get started, but quickly got into a groove. The food, as always, was legendary. Highly recommend for a special occasion, regular lunches with friends, or a romantic dinner with your significant other.

It was almost empty when we arrived which meant it had no atmosphere, and it got even more so by the time we left. The decor is a cheap reproduction of how it might have looked in its heyday. The sandwiches were quite dry and clearly not freshly made. The cakes are a little better but again quite dry. While our waitress was friendly and informative the other waiting staff seemed to be going through the motions, one slopping water into our glasses. All in all I felt I had been over-charged for an underwhelming experience and a venue relying so much on its history it doesn’t feel it has to bother. Very disappointing!!!!!
