Arrived and told they didnt honor restaurant week on weekends.
The chicken kiev was horrible, no cheese or ham.
The desert of tiramisu at $20 was horrible, dry, small and not creamy at all.
The moscow mule was good at the bar.
We made on reservations during Restaurant Week and when we arrived we were told that the Restaurant Week menu wasn't honored on the weekends. We went back to the Restaurant Week listing for the Russian Tea Room and no where could we see where the Restaurant Week menu wasn't honored on weekends.
Very beautiful restaurant with a great ambience. The only thing lacking is food quality given the high price point
Big yikes! Came here to celebrate getting my dream job and we were ignored basically the whole time. When the sandwiches came, they were dropped on the table with no explanation. Tea came 15 minutes after we were done with the sandwiches...We didn't know who our server was, and there was an hour in between sandwiches and scones/desserts. In that hour, no one checked on us or looked at us until a busser came over--he was great. Everyone else was monotone and very robotic. 80 dollars for horrible service, hard as a rock cupcakes, and sandwiches we ate in 5 minutes since they were so small. The check was never dropped and we had to give our card to a random staff member passing by so we could leave. My partner works at quality brand restaurants and usually tips big no matter how bad the service, but this was awful.
Great atmosphere, service, and food. Highly recommend! We enjoyed the afternoon tea experience.
The Russian Tea Room is an institution and worth a visit. We tried to go for restaurant week but was told this menu was not available on the weekends (no indication on the restaurant week listing). We were promptly seated and ordered the afternoon tea - which was quite expensive and while there was sufficient food, I wouldn't say the food was particularly memorable or good value. The dining room is beautiful and it was good to enjoy the ambience. The service was efficient.
We we're upset to find that the restaurant didn't offer its NYC Restaurant Week menu on the weekends. That's not the typical practice for restaurants that choose to participate. Additionally, the weekend dates are listed as being included on the Restaurant Week website.
We stayed and had brunch anyway. The food was underwhelming and the service a bit disorganized for a place this expensive and with such a storied history. Even without the misleading practice of not offering the prix fixe menu on the weekend, we would have been disappointed.
I don't recommend eating here.
Always wanted to try this old NY classic, so I went during restaurant week. One can forgive the kitsch, to me that was part of the charm. Nothing charming about the rest of the experience. The drinks were outrageously overpriced and the waiter knew nothing about the wine list and then advised me that no one in the establishment knew anything about the wine list. So, after Googling my wine selection we chose from the restaurant week selections. Perhaps that was the reason the food tasted like it came from a low budget catering hall in New Jersey. I’d certainly never go back to order from the full menu.
It was truly a fantastic experience! The service was spot on. Unique & tasteful ambience. Afternoon tea trays were delicious & the caviar service was exquisite!
Beautiful place, rich history, very cool art, and excellent food presentation. And perfect martini!
The ambience and the service is excellent. The food is quite humble and not particularly outstanding for a fine dining establishment.
Still outstanding — maybe even better — after all these years. Food, service, and atmosphere can’t be beat. The lamb dumplings!! Absolutely delicious!! Everything from salad to dessert and tea is a treat. I love coming to the Russian Tea Room!
Food was good service was good but it was a quiet place and
We went during Restaurant Week. Service was prompt, waiters attentive, food tasty. Borscht full of flavor, and the beef stroganoff was a good sized potion with tender beef and a yummy helping of noodles. The cheesecake offered as part of the meal was traditional in taste - a classic. One blip - we got a serving of the Georgian dumplings (bland, tough, and lacking in both sauce and spice). Was nice to revisit a classic!
Great experience, food was great, service was on point!
Loved the lighting, the art displayed around the restaurant was great. Food was perfect, the dessert was delicious.
A lifetime dream to enjoy afternoon tea at The Russian Tea Room which exceeded expectations! Ambiance, presentation, service and quality all top tier! Looking forward to my next visit!
It’s not the Russian Tea Room I knew, now food is terrible, service bad only one person for the entire restaurant but the price increases a lot.
Waiter was absolutely terrible. Never came around, didn’t know how to open wine bottle, and was rude. Would never go back.
Very unique and luxurious experience. A great place to take a sophisticated friend or family member.
Our group of 6 was very happy with the dining experience. The staff was very attentive. The decor is priceless. Our meal was tasty and well presented. We would definitely return.
We were so excited to be able to get reservations for this NYC icon restaurant. I must say, while everything was "good" we were not blown away. My son wanted to try 2 different tea choices and we were told we were only allowed 1 which was a little disappointing. He did enjoy many of the sandwiches and caviar on his first tower. I had the vegetarian choices. They were fine. I am glad we got to go, but for the "price of tea" I feel you get more at other places.
Sunday is not a good day to go to Russian tea room for lunch. There is no lunch only expensive brunch with mediocre choices
Perfect ambiance, flawless service, perfect meal!
Shouldnt have to ask for menu twice
Which we had to do twice!
Food ok v pricey worth the visit but just have something cheap and font expect great service
The food was excellent as expected. The service was average, not what I would expect for a landmark restaurant
The menu was very limited, food was good but, portions have decreased in size and increased by a lot cost wise. The staff was great, just not the place it used to be.
We were very disappointed with the food. Nothing special, mediocre portions . Service was excellent and it has a nice ambiance . I also thought that they would have loose teas but the tea is bagged tea.
We had such a great experience. Looking forward to returning:)
Can't beat the ambiance. But I so looked forward to having the Chicken Kiev and it was a major disappointment. The crust so extremely difficult to cut through and the meat was dry. Moreover, I seem to remember that the server usually cut open the chicken at the table and some wonderful butter spilled out.
Also, below the only options for 'would you recommend" are Yes and No. I'll press Yes but I need a Maybe.
Great experience, we ordered the afternoon tea which comes with your selection of tea and a variety of sandwiches, mini cupcakes and scones. Friendly staff and very well decorated room.
Such a nice restaurant. My entree (duck) was a bit underwhelming. The rest- the appetizer, cocktail, dessert- were all excellent.
Decadent! It definitely lived up to the hype. We had amazing service, delicious drinks and food and a beautiful ambience. Pricey but still spectacular.
Business express Lunch was quick but not rushed. Excellent staff. Superb food.
Went for high tea to celebrate my 33rd birthday and all I can say is I am so honored to have been able to experience all the comforts this establishment and exceptional staff provide. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with genuine hospitality from all the staff members. Our server was an absolute delight, extremely helpful and very informative. The food was beyond compare and the selection of teas to choose from were fantastic. No matter if you’re a native New Yorker or a tourist make this a must see destination! 500,000 stars!
Our experience at the Famous Russian Tea Room was everything we expected, outstanding. The food, the ambiance, the service, the stunning decor, were all amazing, incredible, and iconic!
