Nice Grilled Salmon Salad
fennel, anchovy, roasted peppers, crisp potato, farm egg, nicoise olive aioli, green beans, frisee, arugula, red wine vinaigrette
roasted potatoes, squash, brussels sprouts, kale, peppers, poached egg, mustard seed cream
I had asked for an outside table, but somehow that request didn't get noted. Everything was great, except inside it was nearly impossible to hear each other. The noise level was quite intense.
we enjoyed a great meal outside on a lovely fall evening. the staff is lovely…warm, welcoming. something delicious on the menu for everyone. the dessert menu is limited so we got one of each!
would recommend for outdoor dinning option -- great food, bbq, etc
I've now taken 3 different friends to lunch at RAD. I've eaten indoors and on the patio. I found both seatings perfectly comfortable (well, the indoor chairs are a bit hard on the tush). Even when the restaurant was crowded, I did not feel too close to other tables, and, while the conversation levels were high, I had no problems hearing and listening to my partners. Oddly, the music in the bathroom is much louder than in the main rooms, which, lol, serves a useful purpose, although I don't know if that was intentional! The food is really excellent, I have fallen in love with the Nice Grilled Salmon salade nicoise and appreciate that the anchovies are fresh and on the side. My dining partners seemed extremely pleased with the RAD burger and the Whole Grain salad, the hush puppies and the corn bread. Note that the sides are pretty big servings and are most easily shared. I'd like to try the breakfast menu next! Don't forget that you need to make reservations.
The autumn weather was perfect yesterday, so there was no doubt about where to go for an outdoor meal - Ruthie's All Day! The healthy grain salad has been a favorite of mine since RAD opened; last night I added the black bean and quinoa burger to the salad and it was a fabulous combination. Karen had the smoked duck entree with her two favorite side dishes - mac'n'cheese and the pulled pork pinto beans. We finished the meal with the warm campfire cookies and ice cream. Where else in Arlington can you walk from home to this type of meal and neighborhood ambience?
The ambiance was perfect for a first face to face with a new team member. Service was great and the outdoor seating comfortable. The food was good. The beer selection was great and the mocktails were fun.
RAD never ever disappoints! Food has been beyond good every time I have been.
Quality food, great service. A couple menu items a little salt heavy (greens, bbq sauce). Oyster excellent, brisket excellent!
The meals were wonderful. Smoked Brisket, Salmon, Hanger Steak were all excellent. Even better were the sides. My favorites were the braised greens with smoked tomatoes and the pulled pork pinto beans. Both had great flavor!
Although my husband and I have been to Ruthie's many times, this was our first opportunity to bring my parents along with us. My mother can be a pretty picky eater and hard to please (unfortunately), but she loved everything we ordered - from the dry rub wings and hush puppies to the brisket and sides that she enjoyed. (She even said the mac and cheese was the best she's ever had and commented on how light it was - not a common descriptor for mac and cheese, but it is delicious.) We were really glad we finally got to share the RAD experience with them on their short visit with us.
The food was excellent. I had a top notch pork sandwich ($8) with a fennel and arugula side ($3); my friend had a corned beef hash which I thought sounded disgusting but turned out to look terrific—big chunks of meat among home fries. The menu is appealing and includes some meal salads as well as brunch and lunch classics. The cloth napkins are ample and parking is easy. The down side was the noise. Really clattery and all hard surfaces. If they toned it down by a few decibels it would make a big difference. Come on, Ruthie, what’s the point of comfort food in an uncomfortable space? But the patio is appealing, so it may be better as a warm weather option
Second time eating here, and was eager to return after the first - and wonderful - dinner experience.
Once seated (4 adults and one toddler for lunch), it took the waiter close to half an hour to come by with water and take our order. Oddly, by 10:15am they had run out of tea (bar mint and chamomile), which was a shame as it was very cold out and tea is a pretty basic brunch staple.
We had to ask about our order a couple of times, and once it arrived we found that there was missing items on one person's plate, while another received items he didn't order. The food itself was tasty, and would have been better if it hadn't been stone cold. Only reason we didn't complain was because by that time we'd been sitting for more than an hour & just wanted to leave.
Ruthie's is a great restaurant with wonderful food, a peaceful atmosphere and nice staff. This experience was probably a one-off, but if I didn't already know how good it could be I probably wouldn't return as a result. I guess brunch just isn't the time to come.
This was our second meal at Ruthie's All Day in as many days. The staff was able to change our outdoor reservation to indoor dining (due to weather) very seamlessly. As during past visits, we ordered the grilled seafood special. Everything was outstanding. The grilled octopus appetizer is, without a doubt, the best octopus appetizer in the greater D.C. area. We are quite fortunate to have this neighborhood gem within walking distance of our home.
We’ve been to R.A.D. twice. Most recently four of us went at 10:30am for breakfast and ate outdoors on their patio. We experienced the most interesting brunch menu around that was absolutely delicious, especially the biscuits, eggs, salad and grits. Surprisingly the prices were not inflated despite the superb food quality.
The first time we came was around 3:00pm when the menu was good but limited. That time we ate indoors. We almost had to scream to hear each other. The music and overall sound in main restaurant was unbearable loud — almost a roar - and we felt sorry for the staff who were exposed to this constant noise. Happily the music is not piped outside. Outdoors will be be our go-to location whenever we dine at R.A.D. again, which will be soon.
The place is packed for a reason, food is delicious and service is really good. Was my first time, but won’t be the last one.
Such a pleasant surprise in South Arlington.
Spectacular food. Unique. Loud, but it’s not a fine dining joint.
We had a very attentive, knowledgeable waiter. We enjoyed our food and spent quite a bit of time chatting after dinner, but never felt pressured to leave despite the place being quite busy. We’ll definitely be back.
We made reservations and are glad we did. It was nearly full by 6:30pm. The food tasted great! I appreciated the arugula shaved fennel salad as a lighter side. The structure of the menu offering main and side(s) options was flexible and much appreciated. Looking around, people clearly were enjoying their food and the evening. We’ll be back.
The food was really good to the point that I went three days in a row last week, just to try as much of the menu as I could. I can't wait to trek out here for breakfast.
Enjoyed our dinner at Ruthie's All-Day. Corn bread was fab. Noise level is loud.
Absolutely our favorite restaurant in Arlington! Had a friend visiting and went as a group of 5. The food is always delicious. Service is wonderful.
Ordered the brisket, greebs and mac and cheese. Brisket was moist and tender. Excellent and a lot if it. Greens were flavorful, nit mushy. Mac and cheese excellent. Prices very reasonable. My new favorite restaurant.
Outstanding food. My only complaint is that I would prefer some additional options for the sides. I would strongly recommend and will be returning.
This is our one of our favorite, family-friendly neighborhood spots.
1st experience at Ruthie's. Will be back for more brisket sandwiches & quinoa salads.
This is our second visit and we are sure to go back soon. The food is excellent, we’ll-priced and portions are huge. Also they have an extensive gluten-free menu. Definitely a winner.
Absolutely delicious meal!! I had the salmon, Brussels and Mac/cheese which were phenomenal! We came for the bourbon peach cobbler which we learned is only seasonal so we got the apple cobbler instead….did not disappoint!! Service was great, also. We sat at the bar and had a wonderful evening. Would definitely come again next time we’re in town!
Thank you so much for the wonderful service!
Ruthie's All Day is a very lush and bright spot in the south Arlington dining landscape.
The brisket is some of the BEST I've ever had, and Chef Matt's menu is a terrific upscale spin on classic southern BBQ. And Todd runs a very efficient and friendly front of the house.
The Brisket Bennie is an innovative BBQ twist on a brunch classic. My Bloody Mary had plenty of "punch" and just enough zing.
Trust... it's a foodie's delight!
Ruthie's never disappoints. Can't decide on savory or sweet brunch entre? Get a savory one and order the donuts with your meal! Perfect solution.
Brunch menu served on Columbus/Indigenous Day so we had devilled eggs, brisket hash and fried chicken on a biscuit. This is the 3rd/4th time I've had Ruthie's food and it never disappoints. This was my first time eating inside (vs outside or carryout). Nice and open and good social distancing. Service and food pacing was good...eggs came first, then the hash and chicken biscuit. Hash had LOTS of moist and tender smoked brisket cubes with cubes of potato, butternut squash, brussels sprouts and onions. Fried chicken has always been perfectly cooked...moist breast, honey mustard on the most tender biscuit I've ever had. Everything was delicious and reheated well at home (we had leftovers) and tasted just as good the next day.
I would say reservations are required on weekends (couldn't get in once so got carry out). Didn't need reservation for Monday brunch but dining rooms and patio were about 80% full.
