The menu follows a Southern-fried meat-and-three concept, meaning diners order a meat, plus three sides. Those will include Ruthie’s mac and cheese, of course, but also white-soy-braised greens, stewed chickpeas and smoked cauliflower with a spicy soy glaze. “We’re going to be changing it a lot based on seasonality,” Hill says of the menu. “ Every vegetable has got to be fantastic because it has to stand on its own.” One thing that will help that: Hill is already growing all of the restaurant’s own herbs at his South Arlington community garden plot.

I love the food and the service at Ruthie's All Day, but the noise level inside is awful. Two times I have been seated in the alcove to right, and somehow the conversations at the 4 tables are so loud that you cannot talk to your table companions. Once I sat outside and that was very good - no noise to complain about. If Ruthie's can find some way to abate the noise level inside I would go more often.

I love this restaurant. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was delicious. Great variety with the meat and three options, and the cookies and butterscotch pudding were well-balanced in flavor and just phenomenal. The patio was a nice setting for a great meal. I will definitely be back.

This review divided into three parts: food, service, ambience.

The food was fairly good but uneven in quality, generous portions, and unless you are a really big eater, two sides were more than sufficient. We started with a shared "Harry's Hot Hushpuppies." Made with jalapenos and shrimp, it was different but excellent. Great texture! The meat entrees come with 2 or 3 sides. Hubby selected "Wood Fired Citrus Marinated 1/2 Chicken' with raisin caper vinaigrette. Crispy and tasty, but alas, the lower half (leg/thigh) was undercooked and quite red. Having a white meat preference, he started with the breast/wing but upon reaching the 2nd part, it was too late to send it back for additional cooking. (Kitchen should have checked this before serving.) His sides were cole slaw and pinto beans--both "OK" he said. My entrée was "Smoked Brisket." There was a slight smoky taste to the meat (on the fatty side) but it had to depend on the accompanying BBQ sauce to give it life. Sides were "charred kimchi dirty rice" (more like Spanish rice of yesteryear, kimchi was MIA) and "crispy brussels (outstanding). Shared dessert: apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream--totally delightful--really rich ice cream and a flakey crust.

Service was very attentive but not intrusive. Hard to do in a busy restaurant but carried out well here. Server took time to explain how the 2/3 side option worked before we had to ask.

We did chose to sit inside instead of out. Big mistake. There is nothing but hard surfaces everywhere. Combine with full seating, and the resulting clamor reverberated (and this was early on a Sunday evening). We noticed that tables near us turned 2-3 times--probably because diners just wanted to eat and go. When we left, we walked through the outside tables. Even though mostly full, it would have been so much more pleasant. BTW: There are 6-7 flame heaters outdoors. So sit outside unless the cold is brutal.

Friendly staff from the time we walked in. Initially we were seated on the patio in the sun but we were asked to move to shade & done so. We ordered hot apple cider and it was yummy. The brisket hash was a beautiful blend of seasonal vegetables.

We ate outside, so we could hear each other very well and were able to worry less about Covid infections. It was a chilly night, but Ruthie’s has heaters spread around their outdoor area. Still, I’m not sure what they plan to do when it gets really cold out.

The food was wonderful!

The food is great, service attentive without being overbearing, the ambiance is fine…just the noise was definitely a notch or two above what it’s comfortable. Maybe it’s because we always come for brunch?

I had asked for an outside table, but somehow that request didn't get noted. Everything was great, except inside it was nearly impossible to hear each other. The noise level was quite intense.

I've now taken 3 different friends to lunch at RAD. I've eaten indoors and on the patio. I found both seatings perfectly comfortable (well, the indoor chairs are a bit hard on the tush). Even when the restaurant was crowded, I did not feel too close to other tables, and, while the conversation levels were high, I had no problems hearing and listening to my partners. Oddly, the music in the bathroom is much louder than in the main rooms, which, lol, serves a useful purpose, although I don't know if that was intentional! The food is really excellent, I have fallen in love with the Nice Grilled Salmon salade nicoise and appreciate that the anchovies are fresh and on the side. My dining partners seemed extremely pleased with the RAD burger and the Whole Grain salad, the hush puppies and the corn bread. Note that the sides are pretty big servings and are most easily shared. I'd like to try the breakfast menu next! Don't forget that you need to make reservations.

Patio dining is wonderful - nicely spaced tables and umbrellas. Inside the ambiance is somewhat more like a diner - all hard surfaces and little acoustic muffling so it is very loud when full.

The food is very good- large portions and nice ingredients.

The autumn weather was perfect yesterday, so there was no doubt about where to go for an outdoor meal - Ruthie's All Day! The healthy grain salad has been a favorite of mine since RAD opened; last night I added the black bean and quinoa burger to the salad and it was a fabulous combination. Karen had the smoked duck entree with her two favorite side dishes - mac'n'cheese and the pulled pork pinto beans. We finished the meal with the warm campfire cookies and ice cream. Where else in Arlington can you walk from home to this type of meal and neighborhood ambience?

The meals were wonderful. Smoked Brisket, Salmon, Hanger Steak were all excellent. Even better were the sides. My favorites were the braised greens with smoked tomatoes and the pulled pork pinto beans. Both had great flavor!

Although my husband and I have been to Ruthie's many times, this was our first opportunity to bring my parents along with us. My mother can be a pretty picky eater and hard to please (unfortunately), but she loved everything we ordered - from the dry rub wings and hush puppies to the brisket and sides that she enjoyed. (She even said the mac and cheese was the best she's ever had and commented on how light it was - not a common descriptor for mac and cheese, but it is delicious.) We were really glad we finally got to share the RAD experience with them on their short visit with us.

The food was excellent. I had a top notch pork sandwich ($8) with a fennel and arugula side ($3); my friend had a corned beef hash which I thought sounded disgusting but turned out to look terrific—big chunks of meat among home fries. The menu is appealing and includes some meal salads as well as brunch and lunch classics. The cloth napkins are ample and parking is easy. The down side was the noise. Really clattery and all hard surfaces. If they toned it down by a few decibels it would make a big difference. Come on, Ruthie, what’s the point of comfort food in an uncomfortable space? But the patio is appealing, so it may be better as a warm weather option
