The menu follows a Southern-fried meat-and-three concept, meaning diners order a meat, plus three sides. Those will include Ruthie’s mac and cheese, of course, but also white-soy-braised greens, stewed chickpeas and smoked cauliflower with a spicy soy glaze. “We’re going to be changing it a lot based on seasonality,” Hill says of the menu. “ Every vegetable has got to be fantastic because it has to stand on its own.” One thing that will help that: Hill is already growing all of the restaurant’s own herbs at his South Arlington community garden plot.

Corn bread is to die for. RAD burger was very good but was very “rare” for a medium rare order. If that wasn’t a mistake, it would be very helpful if the waitron would provide a description. Perhaps Ruthies “medium rare” is really most places “rare”. Of course, I ate it anyway and it was delicious. Probably the most rare meat I have ever had.

We were aware of Ruthie's because The Washington Post's Tom Sietsma had given it favorable reviews. However, we hadn't been there because it's not around the corner. We're in Bethesda and it's in Arlington.
Fortunately, we needed to pick up a cousin at National Airport so we went to Ruthie's about 2:30 p.m.
The experience was wonderful. They had the regular menu and also the Restaurant Week Menu. Our party of 3 ended up ordering from both.
There was too much to eat so we brought about half of it home.
We'll go back the next time we pick up someone from the airport.

My first time at Ruthie's All Day will not be my last! Going during restaurant week gave us an opportunity to try a variety of items off the dinner menu. The service was great and the food was tasty. We will definitely be back!

We were so pleased with our meal at Ruthie's. It was our first time here and we were celebrating my mother-in-law's 92nd birthday. The grilled oysters and the branzino were the standouts for me. But, really, everything was great. Service is excellent, and the food and drink are super. Can't wait to try it out for brunch!

The food here is simply outstanding. That is the reason to go. The service was fine. There is nothing fancy about this restaurant, but for pure food enjoyment from appetizer to dessert it cannot be topped.

Wow! During Restaurant Week, diners can choose between any appetizer or starter salad, any entree and any dessert for $40. This is an exceptional value for a restaurant that is already known for its fabulous food, generous portions and moderate prices. This is a great opportunity to sample from the many fine offerings (grilled octopus, tuna tartare, smoked duck, grilled fish, top-notch side dishes and awesome house-made desserts) that are on the RAD menu. Don't miss out!

As always, dinner at Ruthies was spectacular. Sitting out on the patio when it started to sprinkle, not so much… would love if there was a canvas (or other) cover. Service was warm and friendly. Very glad we have this neighborhood gem.

With no tables indoors, I was placed outside in the cold. There were heaters but were not turned on! Other diners didn’t complain, but I did & I had to go in & ask. All the heaters had empty propane tanks & had to be replaced. Why did I have to complain?? Eventually I asked for an inside table bec the heaters were insufficient. The food — I had smoked pork sandwich— was delicious. Service wasn’t great.

We met another couple for dinner. It was our first visit and their second. We wanted to go based on Tom Sitsema’s (sp?) review. I had the wood grilled oysters for a starter and they were great. I had the Wood Grilled Delicata Squash as my entree and wife ordered the Hearty Grain Salad (she’s a hard core vegetarian) and both of these were good. The other couple had the Wood Grilled Branzino and the Wood Grilled Salmon and they loved it. So, we really liked the place and our service was really good and would certainly recommend it to others. Clearly carnivores will have a better food experience but it is vegetarian friendly.

The waiter was apparently too busy to check on us. And the grits were like soup. When we showed it to him he said that’s the way they are. Thinking about it now wouldn’t of been nicer and more appropriate if he just took it back? That’s overall what the whole meal felt like just not all there.

Our first time and definitely not the last. We reserved outdoor seating but when we arrived the heaters weren’t turned on but they turned it on once we were seated. The food was fantastic! And the service exceptional. Wear layers if you plan to eat outside.

We were the only guests sitting outside. It was 25 degrees but sunny with blue skies. The staff turned on all the heaters near us. They brought all our food at the same time. They even brought us piping hot cups of water to keep our hands warm. Such a fabulous crew! We love this place

The perfect meal in South Arlington? Grilled octopus appetizer (best in the DMV area); grilled fish entree (you can't go wrong with any grilled entree special at Ruthie's); and the warm campfire cookies with a scoop of cookie dough ice cream. We have never allowed poor weather to stand in the way of an outstanding meal at Ruthie's!

Really interesting menu with nice twists on old favorites. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the menu is diverse and a great value. Service was professional but not rushed. Love the open feeling of the dining room with windows on 3 sides - only minor quibble was the noise level but it didn’t interfere with our very enjoyable evening
