   Our daughters had given us a gift certificate for Santaella as our retirement present and we were very excited to go since we had heard very good things about the place. I made reservations and asked for a private table since I hate those shared bench tables that are so prominent in the restaurants. When we came in, the restaurant was empty except for one table. We were showed to our table and it was indeed a shared bench one. Since the restaurant was empty we asked for a different table (a non share a bench one). I was very clear about which table I wanted by standing in front of the unattached empty one (there were several of these available) to no avail because they did not let us sit in the table we wanted. We should have left then but did not, and were seated in a very noisy table with the bar behind us a a bunch of waiters on the side folding napkins and talking. Definitely not the best place to have a quiet dinner. Our waiter Edward (I think) came and let us know that they had only one choice of Chardonney by the glass (which is my favorite drink) and even if it was not the best I settled (again.) The drink my spouse asked for was good at least. Edward did not tell us about the day's specials and when I use those bar codes to see what they had, and got excited about the bolognese I was told that in fact that was not on the menu today. I settled once more and had the angus fillet that was very good. My spouse's fish was ok and the octopus appetizer was good. Edward's sevice was Ok, he did what he needed to do but nothing more, but felt he deserved a 20% tip, which he included without asking us. La gota que colmó la copa as we say in Spanish was when a group of six white males who were speaking English were seated beside us. They did not like their table and in less that 5 minutes they were moved to another table that pleased them. How come that did not happen to us two Puerto Rican women supporting our economy? It was a very humilating experience.

   We completely enjoyed our evening! From the wonderful before dinner cocktails at the bar, to the exceptional wine and appetizer, then the dinner which was exquisite, and dessert that was to die for we could not have asked for anything better!! We also loved the decor and lively atmosphere! Our waiter went above and beyond! We just loved this place and hope to be back again soon!!

   it was hard to decide which dishes to order when they all looked delicious. there was not one item that disappointed!! Every moment was treasured and it is the kind of restaurant that will be a return destination (at least until every dish is tasted!) it is a beautifully designed restaurant and the people and staff are as well. this is a great gem for San Juan to add to its restaurant repetoire!!

   Excellent service. A bit shocked to pay $8 for still water. Only restaurant we visited in 2 weeks to add this charge. Our server Gabriel was terrific. The food was good. It was not "wow" and it was not "bad". The music was tuned to disco-techa levels around 7pm, which took away from the dinner ambience. We were fortunate enough to enter the municipal parking lot on calle canal before it closed. The brussel sprout salad was very good. The antarctic sea bass was good and the fillet was, "ok". The fillet did not have much seasoning. For the price, it is difficult to justify, but when in Rome...

    Good food! We got roof top seating and were able to people watch the Placita area. Waiter was helpful in clarifying questions when we were undecided on some dishes.

    Came here with our friends- both first time in Puerto Rico. We had a fantastic meal- the food and cocktails were excellent. The restaurant has a great vibe. If you are visiting San Juan and in particular the scene at Santurce it's a great place for a great meal while escaping the party happening right outside the restaurant!

    Santaella is the first restaurant i've been to in San Juan and it set the bar probably a little too high. it's one of the best meals i've had in my life -- you need to go here. my only regret is not getting the tomato salad with parmesan ice cream! the apps we got were ceviche and tuna tacos. the ceviche was incredible. sooo much flavor. the tuna tacos were great too! for the mains, we got the sea bass and garlic shrimp. everyone was saying the sea bass was the best dish on the menu and if you like fish, it definitely was! i liked how the garlic shrimp was flavorful, but not heavy. the drinks were good, a little strong but that's ok! 10/10 recommended eating here. it's a must.

    Our best meal in San Juan, at a great table near the window wall of plants (had to request this after first table offered, so we were lucky). Our server, Gabriel (I believe), was very personable and had many favorite dishes to suggest. Took advantage of valet parking, but navigating the crowded streets outside was tricky so allow a little extra time.

    Been there many times so I'm used to their good food and service. Having said that, the Calamari appetizer was too hard and chewy. We couldn't eat it. We were not given credit or an apology. The bartender was great! It was a slow afternoon and it was pretty empty for a Friday, Cinco de Mayo. Apart from the Calamari incident, the rest of the appetizers were excellent, as usual.

    I expect more since we are talking about a restaurant of a great chef. I expect a more dynamic and different menu that highlight and make a difference of so much better restaurant that you find in Puerto Rico. It doesn’t satisficed my expectations. The prices it was ok but a little overprice for what it was. It was a “mehhhh” experience. Nothing special, nothing new, nothing exiting. But the ambience, service and alcoholic’s drinks was great.
