This is a great wine tasting experience, Jamie was knowledgeable and really engaging throughout. The family owned, small scale operation is homey and we felt connected through the discussion. I have been coming to Sonoma for nearly 20 years and have owned a place here for nearly 4 years. We wished we would have visited sooner and will definitely be back with friends and family.
No food served but OpenTable requires an answer to that. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff, great wines. Would have liked to have had an optional tasting of just their vineyard-designated pinot noirs.
Good wine. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Wonderful experience!! Stephen was delightful and took great care of us.
Great views, great service, great wine! We had a great tasting experience with Stephen.
Small pours, but nice people working and very pretty spot. Most wineries pour a few different wines than what’s only listed on the menu, as well as offer to revisit. I think Schug would be better value if they were to start doing this.
Hello - Thank you for taking the time to visit the winery, and to share your feedback. Our Classic Tasting includes 5 1.5oz samples of our wines. I'm very sorry you feel that your tasting experience wasn't worth the fee - Please contact me directly at 707-939-9363 x216 and I would be happy to refund your tasting fees - Stephen Pirak, DTC Manager.
What a disaster and disappointment this was !!! First of all there were no any food served or offered, very questionable WHY it is part of Open Table app!?! Second this is the worst possible ambiance for a wine tasting, well for any food/ drinks tasting in that matter! … and we did many of those around the world in Australia, Europe, Americas . To be fact clear- 0.2 miles down from the hill where winery is there is a Dairy Farm, full operation, full power blast of manure smell coming with or without wind , all the time , now imagine this on 103 F !! And what was our disbelieve when we were offered a fly-chasing table size fans ( needed at least two of these) for coming flies not to end up in our tasting glass …. So you got the picture! Now , honestly the wines itself were good… if one is able to ignore all of the details stated above. If the winery has a tasting room in Sonoma downtown, and don’t offer any in-house tasting this will be just fine . Plus for us , new in Sonoma-Napa winery experiences, this was our first place to visit. Ruined our impressions and that day we just drove down the California coast just to “ cleanse “ our senses for the next day . Our Advice- avoid this place!
Thank you for taking the time to pass along your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the experience you had. Typically the conditions on our courtyard are usually quite different as the winds usually blow towards our neighbors, not towards the winery. But that being said, we are again truly sorry for the conditions you experienced during your time with us. Please get in contact with me, i would like to refund your tasting fees. I can be reached at 707-939-9363 x216 Stephen Pirak, DTC Manager.
Our wine tasting expert Erin was a joy. She understands the history of the area and the local wine business. Several wines including white Pinot you’ll never find anywhere.
Okay overall; wine was decent but none at the table thought it was spectacular. Service was okay. Not a bad place, but will probably not go back.
Nice setting and personnel. Would suggest a bit more time between tastings and a slightly more generous pours.
For survey, no food was served but could not continue without adding a star. Suggest adding a N/A option for food on survey tool.
Thanks again and look forward to enjoying our wine.
I’ve been to Shug twice now and both times the server has gone above and beyond to create a fabulous experience. The wine is delicious, the pours are extremely generous, and they do not hesitate to share more history or info about the wine making process than you get at other wineries. Plus, the price of the experience can’t be beat.
The staff was nice enough, but it was very hot and they are located very close to a dairy farm, so the ambience left little to be desired. We were a little disappointed.
Amazing Experience from start to finish. The wine was delicious and we learned so much about each different style. Small quiet off-the-beaten path vineyard/winery. Set in a beautiful backdrop. Hard to beat the views with a delicious glass of wine in your hand! Highly recommend to any travelers.
Just be aware transportation is a little difficult without a car so just be prepared and plan ahead.
Overall, amazing experience.
Wine tasting at this winery is quiet and relaxing. The service from the winery personnel is excellent.
Steven was a great host - extremely knowledgable and willing to share. We hada. great time and look forward to visiting again.
"Sonoma Aroma." When you go to a wine tasting there, all you smell is the cow crap from the dairy farm next door. Not conducive to outdoor tastings. Which is a shame, because they have a nice range of varietals. Surprised by the delicious balance of their red sparkling. The favorite of our group. Brandon was a nice guy doing the best he could in the situation there.
Susan - Thank you for your visit and for the kind words about your host Branden, and the Schug wines. Thankfully, most days the wind is blowing from the other direction and the aroma of the Dairy doesn't make its way to our Courtyard - Not the case during your visit, I'm very sorry to hear! Our apologies, we hope you will give us an opportunity to have you join us to enjoy our wines in a more comfortable environment, we are working on tasting options for guests who prefer to be indoors.
I only rated food as 1 star because there wasn't any and I had no option for not applicable. We really enjoyed our visit to Schug. Beautiful atmosphere and sitting area. The staff there were very friendly. Our favorite from the tasting was the sparkling Rosé.
Schug is freaking fantastic! It’s tucked away and has the perfect ambiance. The only thing that could have made our experience better was a charcuterie board option.
It was such a quiet and beautiful surroundings. Nice wine, could use more food options.
Beautiful hidden gem! We really enjoyed the wine and the place it self. I highly recommend it.
Totally made reservation for the wrong day and didnt notice till we arrived but they happily accommodated us. Jaime was knowledgeable and very friendly also gave great suggestions for the remainder of the day. Would highly recommend that winery.p
No food here. It's just wine tasting. They have a good variety of wines. 5 tastings for $30/each. The outdoor patio was nice and relaxing but it's smaller winery and not as grand as many of the more popular ones. We enjoyed a quick 1 hour visit here
Absolutely loved it!! Such a nice environment and an amazing host! We will definitely be back soon!
Such a rare find in this region! Carneros has become overrun with huge wineries that cater to the shuttle buses of tourists... not Schug! They have found a way to stay true to their roots, while providing the elevated experience that is expected in Northern California wine country. Stop by for a stay, you won't regret it.
Jamie is incredibly knowledgeable, fun and happy
The wine and location is great
My only complaint is that the pours are very small compared to other wineries. Is truly a tasting
Jamie, was very knowledgeable, and made for a fun wine tastings experience. We will be back again. Beautiful location, beautiful vineyard views. Nice hidden gem.
Beautiful setting; wonderful wines, excellent tasting room personnel who were very knowledgeable and personable.
Schug is a winery and was not serving food due to COVID. If you want great wine off the beaten path of big wineries this is it! From the bubbles to the whites and finishing with the reds they were all good. Jamie was our host and she is world class. I highly recommend you try Schug winery!
It was a great experience however there is a cow field nextdoor. So the smell might be bad.
Well organized wine tasting during Corona restrictions. Super friendly and prompt service. Great wines/selection
Excellent wine tasting. No food available this time. Great setting, seated overlooking the Carneros vineyards with the bay in the background. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. We enjoyed some very good Pinots and Chardonnays from the estate and brought some home. Fall leaves were wonderful around the Sonoma plaza. Looking forward to another visit to the Schug winery.
Girlfriends birthday and it was great
Rated the food as “good” but we didn’t eat any food. Covid obviously changes things so we weren’t able to go inside. The outdoor area was nice and peaceful though and the views were great. They even have a trail that walks you around the area. Our server was great and very personable. He answered our questions/provided history of the place/etc
Thank you so much, I had a wonderful time, everyone was very helpful and I felt it was a very fun and safe experience. Thank you all so much!
We had a terrific wine tasting experience. It was a pleasant sunny day and the service was extremely good.
Quite frankly, the hostess made all the difference. She was amazingly attentive and engaging. The outside seating was very relaxing and just what we were looking for.
Great place for wine tasting! Service was so nice and nice views
Steve was excellent. We never felt rushed and learned a lot about so I'ma wines. Can't wait to visit again soon.
The one star for food is for the fact there was no food. Wasn’t expecting any food so it isn’t a ding against an otherwise pleasant visit. A hug is always one of our stops when we visit Sonoma. It was the first time we sat outside. It was a very nicely experience.
Love being a wine club member! Winery location is perfect for an afternoon getaway. Beautiful winery, staff is exceptional and knowledgable. Fun events and with delicious food. Please support our wine country during these difficult times! Stay Safe, Be Kind and we need to Be Strong! Cheers!
