If you’re looking for an authentic tavern cuisine and rustic ambiance, Scotch Plains Tavern is the place to be. Located minutes from Essex Steam Train, Rt. 9, and I-95, guests can kick back with a drink and some wings in our newly renovated upstairs bar, redesigned in a modern vintage industrial style while maintaining the original bar from Oliver’s Tavern. The bar, retrofitted for additional space, was originally built in 1913 for a bar in Chicago where Al Capone is rumored to have regularly tipped a glass.

Lovely find with cool menu. Book Choy salad with salmon was outstanding. Perfectly prepared. The humble chicken sandwich was…well humble. A bit dry. Would try something else next time

We sat at an outdoor table with the heat lamp on, comfortable. Service was great, efficient, pleasant, and loved the choice of music! Will definitely return for appetizers sitting by the fire pit!

Food was very mediocre and the waiter was very mechanical - no personality at all. Never smiled. The atmosphere was very good especial the outside dining. Would go back but with much lower expectations.

Staff was friendly and welcoming. Service was attentive and food was delivered promptly. Was happy to be seated downstairs as upstairs, where the bar is, had live music and was a bit noisier. The food was excellent (shrimp scampi flatbread, turkey and avocado BLT and poke bowl) and very reasonably priced. Would definitely come again!

This interior space has high ceilings of tongue and groove stained wood and beams fashioned after a nice barn “farm style” with lots of tables and natural light. The exterior also has plenty of dining table options with fire pits and chairs for informal relaxing. The burgers are very good as are the Tuna Tacos. Also enjoyed Mystic Oysters and spinach and artichoke dip as appetizers. Great selection of draft craft and reg beers and wine and cocktail options. Will definitely return in the future.

Great food! Enjoyed the filet medallions which was delicious and tender with great flavor, and the fish and chips which was also great! Good service, friendly accommodating staff. Definitely will come back if we are in the area.

6 family member ranging from 15 to 76 had a delightful meal on the terrace. Variety of foods ordered. Everything quite good. Fried oysters (small plate adequate for one) were particularly tasty and kudos for the onion soup. Waitress was extremely pleasant and efficient. Great evening.

We had a great time at Scotch Plains Tavern. The staff is very nice, very accommodating. The beer choices were great and we really liked the food menu. Great ambiance no matter where you sit. We decided to sit upstairs in the tavern for our first visit. Great ambiance!

We arrived at the establishment and a nice lady took us to our table. I think we were apart of the bar because our waiter wasn't really there until after the fact. We kinda was just left in limbo. We had to stop or ask multiple people for a takeout box or refill for our drinks and even our check but the teamwork among the waiters/waitresses was incredible!

Food was excellent and restaurant was clean. Service was slow. Food came and we had to ask for silverware and napkins while staff was congregating and dancing at the hostess station. There was music upstairs but still almost to loud to chat downstairs.
