Seating was cool, but a little cramped. Food was good, but a little overpriced for what it was. Too much food for entree.
Nice dinner, but did not feel it was worth what we paid.
Took a long time to get the bill at the end of the meal, otherwise waiter was very attentive.
First rate food and pleasant friendly service. Perfect for great ppretheatre dinner.
I can’t believe I’ve never dined here before! It’s an upscale diner with gourmet food and perfect service. We enjoyed our experience immensely
The food was good and the service friendly and accommodating
Great food. Service was excellent, attentive and accommodating. Very nice experience. Definately coming back.
Food was very good, more than adequate wine list with some interesting "green" choices and the servers were helpful, courteous and friendly. Went back during Hamilton intermission for a glass of wine and it was much quicker than waiting in line at the theatre.
Enjoyed our pre-show dinner with family. My food was good, just wish the roast beef was sliced a little thicker. Wife's scallops were tasty as well as the gnocchi.
The Senator is WONDERFUL. We had great food and we're looked after as if by family. We were visiting people that we hadn't seen for a long time, & the night was a special one....& I had really sung the praises of the Senator. We had a great night, & every hope was exceeded. Thank you!
Great food and service. Best fries in city of Toronto. Roast beef was tender and good
The new menu plus the incredibly pro service was heavenly and added a sprinkle of magic dust to our evening at #Hamilton!
This location would have passed me by if I had not found it on the internet. I loved the style and layout. The service and food were both excellent. The bill was what I would expect to pay in London but saying that I thought it was worth it
Ordinary food that I could have cooked at home myself.
I had not been to the Senator for a while. I think it survives because it is across from the Ed Mirvish Theatre. It also is a good venue (the upstairs) for music. The food was a major disappointment. I visited with a friend (who has her own restaurant). We ordered Arancini as an appetizer and both of us had prime rib for out mains. The arancini tasted like someone served a packaged riceball with pasta sauce out of a can. Fortunately the waitress was smart enough not to charge us for it. We then had Caesar's salad which was better. The prime rib I think I can make better at home. Uninspiring.
The service was good (even with the waitress having to train someone as she worked). The wine was ok. Dessert was ok. Being a Mirvish subscriber helped with a discount. But next time I will go elsewhere for dinner.
This time my buddy and I ordered your chicken pot pie and were very pleasantly surprised - nice fluffy, golden pastry, lots of chicken chunks and really good flavour at a reasonable cost. Well done!
Cool diner / booth space with a cozy feel to go with friends - excellent choice of you are going to the theatre across the street!
Dinner before the theatre. Convenient but over-priced. It’s always been over-priced. They change the menu pretty often, it seems to me, and favourites get dumped. No more crab cakes, what a shame!!!! This has been our go to before the theatre for a couple of years now. But now I wonder why. Not sure we’ll come back any time soon.
My dish of chicken pot pie came like soup. Waitress was very good and took it back. My husband finished eating before I got mine. The second one arrived minimally better. It was tasty but too runny.
Great food and outstanding service
Senators, changed the menu the day before our visit. They are aiming to be a higher-end restaurant, therefore, higher prices. I think that the restaurant is taking advantage of the theatre crowd across the street. The price for the quality of the food was excessive. The service was very good and friendly. This used to be a favourite place for us.
Second tome we have had lack-luster experience.
It was a most pleasant experience. The staff were welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good food, great service, and a cozy ambience.
Our biggest issue was that the wrong meal was ordered for my husband. He got his meal after the rest of the table. There were 4 of us. We got an apology but no compensation. Plus rice pudding was sparse and bland for the price.
I ate at the Senator a few years back and it was fantastic. I had an excellent steak and the best cream brûlée I’ve ever eaten. This time it was just horrible. My special occasion wasn’t recognized, we were put upstairs in a VERY small room which was beyond capacity, the music was so loud it was impossible to enjoy the meal, the food was less than average... NOTHING like what I remembered. After this visit, I will not plan to ever eat here again. As I said the food was marginal and it was VERY expensive for the quality. Sorry.... this place has lost its mojo!!
The good was fine but overpriced. The Senator is an old diner, which is fine but not worth the prices they charge.
Love this restaurant. Had Sir Elton John's favorite Hamburger. It was delish.
The Senator wine bar is a wonderful venue for live music. We heard Julian Fauth with Carlos del Junco, both great musicians. The food and service were good too. We just wish the chairs were more comfortable. The existing cafe chairs are just not designed for sitting for three hours to listen to music!
Had reservations. Waited 20 minutes for tablr
We went on a Friday night for dinner and live music. We liked the Senator Wine Bar’s cozy space and atmosphere- and the food was very good. We plan to go back again soon!
Awesome service, delicious food.
Went for a pre-theatre dinner and while the staff was hospitable and lovely, the menu is limited. I ordered the daily catch, my dinner companions ordered the burger. It was all very salty. Two of us developed severe bloating and had gas pain all through the show (and into the morning). Neither of us managed to finish our meal. So while the food looked good and tasted good, apparently it was not good.
Great ambience. Lovely little spot conveniently located across from Mirvish theatre. Food quite tasty and service attentive. Expensive, though.
Great service by a super friendly server Shannon. Food was good , a little tight & noisy but that’s what makes it charming.
Going to Mirvish production after !
Nice spot. Not elegant if that’s what you are looking for. Service was great. Food was decent. Lots of places in the neighborhood. May look to somewhere else next time.
Very enjoyable pre theatre dining experience. Wait staff very friendly and attentive.
Noisy but cozy. Friendly staff. Great comfort food. Definitely will come back
Excellent service a d food was great. We had hamburgers
Dining at The Senator is like taking a date to the 1950’s. The food is excellent. The atmosphere is classic and nostalgic and there’s an initimasy you don’t have in many restaurants. Also, the food is excellent
I truly enjoy going to the Senator. It's loaded with many great memories as well as good good and friendly service.
Good food. Good beer. Friendly, attentive and helpful waiters.
A lot of things go into making a visit to a restaurant an enjoyable experienece. The quality of the food, the value in the price, the ambience, and the Senatot has all these sthings.
But the great intangible is how the restuurant makes you feel. Do you feel valued as a customer, do you feel that the staff are truly extending themselves to make you feel it ia a pleasure to have you there, and I think this is where the Seantor realle excels.
Shelly, the manager is the perfect host from the time he greets you to the time you leave. And the staff follow that lead for your entire visit. It;s a very enjoyable experience.
