Everything was great. The food may have been a little salty but I know Indian food is. I also follow a lower sodium diet so my taste is different. Definitely have recommended Shalimar to people already in Ann Arbor. We’ll be back when we’re in town again. Thanks.

The buffet did not have bowls for desserts and semi liquid food. The waiter refused to bring bowls and wanted guest to use plates for running food like Dhal, Rice pudding etc. Also the waiting staff was acting as if they were doing a favor to guests and did not want to consider or receive any guest feedback!

Overall our experience was good. The food was good and came out quickly, however once we had our food the waiter completely ignored us. We probably waited 30 minutes after we finished eating to get our bill. I caught his eye a couple times and he did not even stop to say he was busy and would be back soon. Luckily we were not in a hurry.

We’ve been going to Shalimar for years and the food and service has always been great. Until last night. We waited 20 minutes for a server to greet us. Our food finally arrived and they forgot one of our party’s main dish. The server didn’t come back to check on us. We had to flag down another server to bring the missing dish and we also had a dish that was too salty / inedible and needed to be sent back. Poor food and service and an automatic 20% gratuity added to the check. We will not return.

The server was too rude and there was no concept of customer service. It started right at the beginning when the server said that we don’t have a reservation, where in fact we booked it thru Open Table. Next, we wanted to share the soup and asked for an empty bowl. He was rude and said that he can’t give us an empty bowl. Next, since we were not happy with the service, we didn’t want to tip. But the restaurant requires a 20% automatic service gratuity for a party of 5 and above. We didn’t like the way he was talking to us in a rude and arrogant manner. We have been regular visitors for the past 20 years and now Shalimar is black listed. Terrible service and I strongly recommend that no one visits this restaurant.

Very good tasting food. The place is a bit sketch (desperately old carpeting, bathrooms unclean, stuffy smell). Closed the kitchen without warning at 9:30 and wouldn’t even serve dessert after that. Strange. I would go back, though. Good indian food is so much better than so many other moderate food choices.

The food is excellent and service is decent. Usually we love eating here but on this last visit we had a later reservation and felt extremely rushed to get our order in, eat and leave the restaurant. It was not a relaxing meal as our waiter hovered over us until we quickly finished our meal/drinks.

We waited 40 minutes for a menu. Never checked in on us. Never refilled water. Other tables got menus, ordered and got food before we were asked for our order. We got our dinner 47 minutes after ordering. The whole experience lasted 3 hours! Would not recommend.

I LOVE Shalimar! It’s a terrific spot to hit when visiting my daughter at U of M. I love that they take reservations because it can get quite crowded. The food is wonderful, generous, and authentic.
