Shaya restaurant marries Israeli staples with Southern flavors and modern techniques, striking a balance between innovation and tradition. Shaya approaches Israeli cuisine as a grand mosaic, drawing influence and inspiration from North Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Turkey and Greece. The contemporary menu reflects the ongoing evolution of Israeli food and celebrates the abundance of Louisiana. Shaya highlights seasonal, responsibly- and locally-sourced ingredients.

The wood-fire oven is central to both the menu and the dining experience, from the incredible homemade, wood-fired pita to vegetable-centric small plates and heartier entrees. Many of the dishes on the diverse menu are meant to be shared and enjoyed throughout many courses.

The menu doesn’t change. I wish there would be something new to taste, from time to time. One can only have so many dips. Boring. No daily specials either. Chicken on the humus was nothing but overcooked breading. One small chunk had a detectable miniature piece of meat hidden under dry coating. The rest was just over fried breading that I was not even able to cut with a knife. It absolutely tasted like fried ahead and the. Dipped again the frier to be reheated. However, that creamy humus is the best in the world. Lamb sandwich was burned to crisp (literally black but we didn’t return it) and coleslaw shredded too thick, so it was neither visually appealing nor tasty. The only consistently delicious thing that keeps me coming back is the bread. But what I didn’t understand was charging credit card fees before even knowing if the bill would be paid with credit card. They say they would take it off if you pay cash. An absolute nonsense!!! What if you leave cash in the booklet and leave. Did they run after you to give you the credit card fee back? I really don’t care about a few dollars. Just wonder how many guests are scammed that way.

Way too loud but the food is good. They need to improve the acoustics so that people can hear themselves think.

Perfect from start to finish. Our array of food choices sufficed and more! Creamy hummus, herby babaganoush, untypical to find German style schnitzel at an Israeli restaurant — delightful and filling with an honest brioche bun that soaked the aioli flavored mayo heavenly! Israeli meat and lightly crisped Brussels sprouts were both familiar and new. Perfect service; just right ambience of light and busy ness. Unpretentious, which matters these days. Thank you Shaya!
