    Our first time here but we will definitely be back. Casual atmosphere with great food and service. Loved the tapas style dishes. Sampled quite a bit and food came out ridiculously fast. Sat outside on the patio which was perfect. Dogs were welcome.

    It’s hard to find quality authentic Japanese food. I spend a lot of time in Hokkaido in the winter and always look forward to the food. It was refreshing to find an amazing place in my backyard!

    Went here to celebrate a special birthday and left very disappointed. Two servers hopped between helping us. The servers were away for long periods of time. Although delicious, food and drinks arrived at our table at random times. After a very slow start, we were then pushed to finish our meal because they were closing.

    Food was very good, welcoming horrible but our requested inside table finally achieved after weird banter with barely English-speaking server women. The service was weird & hurried & ordering off of eMenu hard but the pics nice. Would rec for good & presentation quality.

    Everything was great until the end. Very rude server came and told us in the middle of table that we had to leave right away since the table has reservation. There were many open tables available. We were all shocked and left right away. The food was great and our server was great. But this rude person ruined our night. We were celebrating our guests’s 30th Ann which I mentioned when I booked the reservation. No congratulations mentioned. So disappointed since I used to go there often.

    The sushi was amazing! We had 3 different roles and the July special with 5 different nigiri- everything was delicious! We ate out on the patio and it was beautiful and our server was great! Highly recommend!

    We love Shimbashi Izakaya. It's become one of our favorite sushi spots. The food is always great, service is freindly and attentive. Often hard to get a seat at the sushi bar, but we've grown accustomed to bringing our dog and sitting on the patio.

    Be aware they close early. I should have checked their hours. I made an 8pm reservation on a Saturday night as was surprised when they came to the table at 8:45 announcing last call to order any food or drink. Wow! We were just getting started. What we did have was very good. I'd like to come back when we have more time. I'd also get a link to their menu in advance. It is VERY long and hard to read on your phone. I miss paper menus.

    The food as always was outstanding. However, the overall experience was diminished by the attitude. We arrived about 5:40 for an 5:30 reservation- I had called ahead to tell them we would be a few minutes late - and waited quite a while before our food order was taken. We were still eating and poised to order more when we were told at 7 that there was a reservation for the table at 7:30. Plenty of time to finish and have one more order of sashimi. I understand timing and turnover but this announcement was inartful at best, rude may be a better way to describe it. Plates taken away without asking. I suppose to make sure we got the message we were told again, about 10 minutes later, that there was another reservation at 7:30. The food is very good. Wish I could say the same about the attitude. They probably get a lot of one timers so it doesn’t matter to management. I would still recommend the food with caution about the service.

    Shimbashi is always a good experience when we go. The patio setting is very relaxing. Service was attentive. It's pricey, so not a place we go more than once a month, but it's good overall.

    For first timers, finding the restaurant was a bit confusing when coming from the structured parking lot. We sat outside where we could see the ocean but not necessarily smell it. We ordered 3 sushi rolls, but it did seem to take a bit of time as I noticed guests around us receiving their meals before us. They were delicious once we got them: mango de go, crunchy, & spicy tuna. Price is high but it’s expected with the location and view. They have warmers to help with the chilly breezes. The staff was overall pleasant and their work attire looked professional. I would come again and bring friends.

    Everything was excellent except for a very rowdy and offensive table of 5 which disrupted everyone on the patio. Really unpleasant. Not the restaurant’s fault but it would have been nice if they had tried to address this somehow.

    Two + a dog for lunch outside. Beautiful view of ocean. We had lunch specials - one Sashimi, one Chirashi. Both came with soup and the Sashimi came with salad and some pickles. Superior grade & cuts of fish. Friendly service. Just a lovely place for such a meal. Drinking water, food + tip $55.

    The food was outstanding!! We had 3 different kind of speciality sushi rolls, all were amazing! We also had the fried rice, which was the best fried rice ever. This is by far the best sushi we’ve ever had. This is our second time here and it gets better every time!

    Second time I ate there in a week. Food was good, but service was inconsistent the second time. Could really use more servers for busier times— the staff was friendly enough but too few. We waited forever for the check. Would also appreciate better menu system.

    We had the chef’s selection sushi for $60/person, and some additional sushi pieces. Our server also went out of their way to ask about allergies and food sensitivities, which was a great touch. Seafood was very fresh and worth the cost. The restaurant is small and intimate. It can get noisy during crowded periods, going early evening beats the crowd.

    This is a good izakaya. Varied menu, good sake choices, a Japanese crew behind the sushi bar, and a good fry chef for tempura and things like ika geso or age dashi dofu. A family favorite. Enjoy!

    We had a fantastic meal while watching a gorgeous sunset. Our cousin, who was visiting us from Japan, gave high praise to the food and was able to have a nice conversation with our busy waitress.
