When we came up with the concept of Shinsei we wanted a place that reflected our lifestyles: sometimes we went out to dinner with our kids and sometimes with our friends and husbands. We wanted to create a place where a night out with the kids didn’t mean food adults had to suffer through or a night out with the parents didn’t mean a stuffy place where kids had to wear a scratchy clip-on tie. Shinsei is just that: a neighborhood gathering place with date night appeal.

But not so unexpected that you won’t be able to decipher the menu or recognize your favorite dish. Our signature poppers, for instance, are a sophisticated mix of late night bar food and sumptuous finger food with a distinctly Asian flair.

I celebrated my 30th birthday here with some friends! WE LOVE JIM AND CHAR! We sat upstairs and it was perfect for us. It felt we had our own space and we were not too crowded and the sound level was not too loud. We could have great conversations and enjoy INCREDIBLE food and drinks. Thank you for an amazing night! I would highly recommend this restaurant!

The food quality was definitely lower than I expect at Shinsei. Standards like the fried rice tasted worse than normal and seemed like they had been prepared the day before. Shishito peppers were dreadful. I took a friend from out of town; what a bummer.

I have never felt more rushed than I do at this restaurant. It's the only restaurant where I have been in and out in 30 mins. multiple times and not by choice. The tables are so crammed together that people's rearends are in your face or going across your table to squeeze in and out between tables. The closeness makes it impossible to hear your own conversation. It has become a place to just be seen.

Back for a return visit to one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas, Shinsei. Unfortunately we were seated in the bar area for the first time, which turned out to be quite loud! Will ask for something different in the future. The service was outstanding, and we ordered as we completed each round. The Elvis tuna tartar was excellent, as usual! This was followed by garlic pork potstickers and shrimp dumplings that were perfect. Both had a bit of spice that added nicely to the taste. This was followed by the vegie tempura that was excellent and sufficient to almost complete the evening. Almost means we had a dessert, chocolate cake spring rolls that were also were excellent. All of this was capped by a cold French white. Would like to see a few more Rieslings on the menu. Will come again. Get reservations for the weekends.

Fantastic as always! The service is beyond outstanding. Our bartender Carter always creates the best martinis and our server did everything to make our dinner great! All dishes were perfection as always. Shrimp and crab and fried rice is a must and Shinsei sashimi, lovers and Tammy rolls are my favs

Always our go to for the best food experience in Dallas. Unique and creative dishes ; excellent service and of course, Chef Elvis!! The manager noticed one of our entree portions was small and immediately went to the kitchen to have more sent to the table...incredible! We hadn't even noticed, Thats the type of service you will find at Shinsei.....

Sushi/sashimi were quality fish but presentation was average. Value for money compared with other sushi restaurants on the higher end side was very good. In summary, I’d go again, for the price point, fair value and food is good. If I wanted to wow on a special occasion I might consider a different sushi restaurant.

I would go back to Shinsei in a heartbeat. The food was sooo delicious, the service was wonderful and the aesthetic was dark and chic, without trying too hard. Our waiter was so attentive and did everything to make sure we enjoyed our food and cocktails. We ordered the Thai fried rice, a pressed roll, shrimp and cucumber spring rolls, and salmon skin rolls. Every dish was absolutely delicious.
