Food was delicious, but waited too long for it to arrive and out of sequence. Service was horrible. They really struggled, but kept making one mistake after another, with the finale being to provide free drink, not asked for, but placed on the bill, as the sorry. We suggested that they needed to rethink their strategy of getting us to come back.
The food was delicious. The vibe is upbeat and casual. The service needs improvement. Although all dishes came out hot , it would have been better had all starters come out together. Same issue for main courses. I’d still go back because the food & drinks were all delicious and fresh.
The food was sub-par, especially considering the price. The shakshuka was overcooked, the hummus was too thick, and the pita was too dough-y.
Good food but unfortunately expensive. Would go back often if it was less costly.
Had the most wonderful brunch yesterday.
I love Shook
Had a wonderful dinner experience there the week before, but this was a disappointment. Mushroom kibbeh was tough on the outside -had to be speared to be cut, and then literally bounced off the plate. Tagine was fine, falafel is delicious (but was a bit overdone), and the burnt tomato eggplant dip was delicious. Serving staff seemed to forget about us. Perhaps an off night? Would certainly give it a second (third) chance.
We sat outside in a table of four. Spacious enough that you have some privacy and other dinners. Lots of things to share. Great cocktails on the menu as well.
Not greeted at first for a while but from there on in great service. Brunch outdoors under a shady tree....priceless:)
Best vegetarian food in the city, highly recommend!
We enjoyed our brunch meals, especially the pancakes! The restaurant ran out of a couple dishes and drinks, which was unfortunate so early on in the day. I’m sure we’ll be back soon to try their lunch/dinner menu.
First time checking this place. Great food and service. Only issue was we were seated near the kitchen and at times we would smell a strong garbage odour. Good thing we were finish eating but odd that we could smell such a strong odour. You would think it would ventilate in another direction and not into the main dining room. Otherwise good but would sit away from the kitchen doors next time.
They’re new, so they’re still working out some kinks with service and timing of food delivery, but the ambience is great and the food is amazing.
We had a great time other than shook cancelled out reservation on the open table app !!
Great food - great flavor and presentation. Wonderful place for a couple and had a great time. Staff were busy but helpful. Highly recommend.
Beautiful space and well thought out interior design and attentive service (if not entirely knowledgeable about the menu). However for the price point, the food was disappointing. Hummus lacked flavor, and the falafel appetizer was average at best (additional downside was the portion size for the cost). I don't mind spending more if the quality of the food is outstanding, but it wasn't. Mains were good and hearty with most of the flavor being imparted by fresh herbs. Cocktails were inventive and looked lovely, but again, on the more expensive side (starting at $16). Overall I don't know that I would revisit.
Really wonderful food. Very fresh, and beautifully presented. Awesome service.
Absolutely phenomenal food and the service was excellent!
Will definitely be returning!
Middle-eastern cuisine became very popular in the last few years and Shook picks up on this trend. The menu is not very original, but tasty and attractive nevertheless. Bread/pitas are very good, so are the non-alcoholic drinks. Some portions a bit small for the price, i.e. falafel. It would be great if there was an option to have a selection of dips available as one dish. And it would be fantastic if Shook would have had a patio. Service is amazing, very friendly and knowledgeable. Wine list is fine, but it would be nice to see some middle-eastern wines by the glass available, maybe from Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Tunisia ... It's a place with great potential, one can hope that will only get better with all the customers' feedback provided.

All terrific. Only issue is high noise level so difficult to have a conversation.
Amazing food, atmosphere and service!
Will definitely make this a regular stop.
Fantastic food with gorgeous presentation, servers are helpful and nice. Very upscale Middle Eastern with a great vibe. Will becomes one of our new faves for sure. Only sour note: very very loud and hard to talk to our tablemates.
Good exceptional, our server Blaze excellent in helping us choose.... definitely a foodie haven..... only problem was high noise level prohibited conversation
We were excited when we stumbled upon Shook while visiting Toronto. In addition to the positive reviews, we love Middle Eastern food. We didn't realize that the restaurant was only three weeks old!
Shook's menu lends itself to sharing, which we did. First, we tried their signature hummus. It was outstanding. In addition to it being made in-house, the restaurant adds grilled red onions, crispy chick peas, za'atar and more to the top. They serve it with house-made, piping hot pita with olive oil and spices. Both were excellent.
We followed that up with a fig salad that included greens, nuts and goat cheese. Lastly, we tried their mujadara, which was listed under "large plates." This dish features roasted eggplant, rice, lentils, halloumi and fried onions. It was topped with their labneh - which was not in the description of the dish, and personally, I think they should have left it off and added a few more eggplant pieces. Both dishes were very tasty, and we enjoyed them very much.
Why didn't I give Shook five stars if we really enjoyed the food? Essentially, I think that they may need to tweak a few things (or maybe not, depending on their business). I was slightly annoyed by the fact that we had to pay $1.50 for a second pita to go with our humus (which I was sharing). Not only weren't the pitas particularly large, but they already charged $14 for this modest dish. (Note to management: For $14, you should just serve your dips with two pitas. Since people are sharing, it seems reasonable to me. You might also eliminate some complaints.) Similarly, there was nothing particularly large about their large plate. While we didn't walk out hungry, we we expecting a bit more for something described as "large" for $20 that was essentially a vegetarian rice dish. (Note to management: You may want to change the category name to something else.)
If you like this type of food, I would definitely give it a try. The food did not disappoint.
Had a Fabulous Evening Meal with my friend. Our first visit but absolutely coming back!
David and Jennifer, our severs, were wonderful and I can't recommend it highly enough but I hope after this review you still find a table for me!!
Beautiful restaurant with fabulous food and flavors. We enjoyed every bite.
Awesome restaurant and I think the better value is in the brunch menu, the lunch menu is a bit pricey.
Service and staff were great!
Beautiful atmosphere. The drinks and food were delicious. Portions were small and very expensive. We went for dinner but have heard better things about brunch there. Not sure if I'd go again.
Overpriced and mediocre
The restaurant looks good but service is very, very slow.
A great place but if you are doing share plates design them to be shared. Threes don’t make sense.
A delicious and innovative menu. Gratitude to the excellent service of our waitress to the restaurant manager, Tori. - wine by the glass is expensive, too expensive in my opinion having dined in the best Toronto and international restaurants. Tori navigated my concerns professionally. I will be back - it’s fabulous!
T. H yay. Hi h by ujj
I needed a toothpick because all of the yummy spices. That’s my complaint. Other than that? Delish!
Not very many good vegan options on the brunch menu.
Amazing food and great service! Really enjoyed the coffee and my time spent there.
