East is East Silk n' Spice - West Broadway
Just like the Dhabbas of the the Silk Route, East is East is home to everyone. Artists, musicians, minstrels and youth eat next to business men, politicians and professionals. Come and experience the mystery and vibrancy of the east, right here in Vancouver.
Whipped spinach & paneer (Indian Cheese) with mushrooms (vegan option available)
Chicken in creamy masala and herbs
Baked eggplant, sauted with herbs, tomato, onion and garlic
Our order was rushed and it felt like they wanted to do as many tables as possible in the evening
Despite ordering different plates to taste it all arrived at once and after 20 min we were done ...
Some food arrived cold
Too expensive for what you get
The lamb is good but you get three pieces (small cubes) for 18$ ... disappointing
The best about this place is the live music which unfortunately has nothing to do with the restaurant
Quality needs to step up or prices need go down
The dining room is beautiful and unique. I absolutely love the vibe of this space. Very warm and inviting. Laid back feel with beautiful live music. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Delicious and flavourful food with a nice spice level. A great place for a first date or a celebration of any kind.
We, just two of us, went to celebrate my Birthday. Our wish list was short: great music, warm atmosphere and delicious food.
We love the food, atmosphere, music and people!!
Our third visit here. The food is quite good. Will likely return again.
The restaurant was well spaced between tables. The food and service was as fantastic as it always is. The band was loud as per usual but the music quite enjoyable.
Great food great service great price great everything I will go here again!!
We chose this location for my mothers birthday on September 26th, 2020. Our server Lana was awesome. Everything was perfect. Lana was kind, courteous and also patient with my elderly mother and aunt. Thanks so much! :) I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
stunning amazing love it fantastic delicious perfect
Enjoyed the decor and ambience and the food exceeded expectations. Great value.
Atmosphere and food good. A bit pricey and table times are limited to 90 min which put a bit of pressure on our birthday party. Which reminds me, they charged $12 to plate a cake we brought. $12!!! That's crazy.
Overall, an excellent dining experience.
Very tasty meal, beautiful ambience and great service!
Excellent dining experience overall.
Our favourite and we love the chai tea
I have the privilege of eating out all over the world from street food in the streets of Asia to the hardest to book Michelin Star restaurants around the globe.
As a result, my ratings are subject to a wide comparison of other restaurants which makes my ratings potentially harsh. I also try to judge the overall experience based on what the restaurant is trying to achieve.
This specific East is East location has a calming and relaxing ambiance and is themed very well with a beautifully painted mural above in gold and blue, a wall of Himalayan salt, soft plush cushions, and tables made from the branches of trees.
The live music was also very well performed and added to experience of being in an oasis, away from the business of the city.
The waitress and staff were courteous and attentive. Nothing was missed and were eager to please.
The food, which is the most important part, was well prepared, clean, and organized very well.
While taste is of course subjective, I found the items in the “Feast” (which allows the choice of multiple dishes from a wide list) were hit and miss.
The items that were delicious were extremely well done and I was quick to reorder. Some other items were less enjoyable.
The mystic soup, mango & butternut squash, rice, chicken, and dips with stuff roti were balanced in flavour and packed a huge tastebud punch.
The boldness of the flavours can initially feel overwhelming if your past few meals were sushi or light fare.
Different dishes pair better with others and since there is a range of choices, part of the fun can be experimenting to find a sweet balance.
Some of the dishes were less than stellar such as the lamb and salmon. While flavoured well, they were far too dry and lacked the tenderness I would have hoped for.
For the price, and the experience, this restaurant overall is a great place to take in bold flavours, experiment, and take in a unique atmosphere.
It was nice to go back after re-opening with Covid. Staff were friendly and maintained appropriate isolation protocols. Food was good as always and the chia tea is just outstanding.
The Dalcha stew was disappointing. I like the salad, with its finely cut cabbage and avocado dressing but find the lamb stale and dry. Undeterred, I ordered The Mughal in the hope that the chicken will be better. But no, it seems the chicken is overcooked to the point of losing texture. The silver lining was the mango lassi, which was made using real mango.
Had family here from Calgary and they really enjoyed their meal.
Great space, love the salt walls and the live music, food was grand. Service was nice and friendly.
The menu selection for dine in is very limited and serving size was a bit small for price.
The food tastes delicious.
Live music was awesome.
I will try takeout next time though. Menu has much more options.
The all you can eat 'feast' here is such amazing value, the food is great quality and service to match. Even the wine we ordered was great for the price! They have live music as well which makes it a great date spot. Highly recommend.
It was great and quick
Great food and entertainment and it was really awesome to be out socializing for a terrific vegetarian meal. The service is only mediocre at best. I had made a reservation days in advance and upon arrival we still had to wait for at least 30 mins until they seated us. Then we moved again to the booth table we had reserved that was not ready. The food made up for it but was a tad overpriced for the small portions of food. I would definitely recommend to dine here just make sure you make a reservation and specify your time and if your table will be ready.
I always liked the feel of east is east. We ordered items from across the menu, all good if you like the spice and bit of heat. Live band when we were there Saturday night.
Excellent food, attractive surroundings, perfect sized serving, pleasingly presented.
Lovely friendly service with delicious food
Beautiful array of flavours. The Chai is the best!
East is East has always been my favourite; such a special space, amazing food and best chai in the city! 💗
perfect perfect perfect
we'll be back
we'll be back
Amazing food and the gypsy jazz band was outstanding.
It was amazing! Would love to go back again
There were 9 of us and we had a big variety of dishes. They were all delicious.
Great live music. The food and service were also good. Really cool place.
It was good value and a great dining experience with beautiful music in a very chilled-out ambience. the service was friendly and attentive.
Food was excellent. So many great flavours. I love that they bring in small music acts. Always interesting.
An amazing place, the food is great, the place is lovely, live music, and the people are wonderful and friendly. I would totally recommend this restaurant!
Thank you for the great time spent there!
Great experience, nice staff and the live music was a plus. Will deff be back!
It will be better if you provide a kids menu, the band was great.
This spot is good for a quick casual dinner -- the inside benches with pillows are comfortable, but the outside benches are hard with no back to lean on -- not very comfortable. Live music interferes with talking -- find we have to raise our voices to be heard. The food was very tasty, but I didn't order the best combination -- the Persian salad was cold straight out of the fridge and a little too lemony, while the mango shrimp dish was warm so the two didn't complement one another. The one problem, and I'm sure it's not the restaurant's fault, but a neighborhood issue, is a silverfish found it's way to my jacket sleeve and eventually to my hand. I'm told they are harmless, but not a pleasant thing to happen in an eatery.
