No bad, but chicken and salmon were dry and overcooked. Pesto pasta was good.
Charming place in a refurbished old building. The food is good and interesting, a good selection but not too many. The crème brûlée was excellent with an extra thick burnt sugar layer.
I scheduled a reservation days prior with a special request for a booth in lower alley level. We entered through the lower level and I was surprised the booths were taken, I told hostess and said we would wait but she said she had just seated the guests about 15 minutes prior. She also said she missed the request. I was not happy and would had left but our third party had not arrived, so we were seated in the noisy bar where I did not want to be. What's the point of having a request box if you don't bother to read? I like your resturant but was disappointed at your lack of attention. I won't recommend at this time.
Appetizers were awesome! Entrees, not so much. Mussels had an "odd" taste, noodles were stuck together and the fish and chips tasted previously frozen. Nice wait staff.
We are outside under the tent which was warm and festive
Phenomenal French Toast Breakfast!
Been going for years, and I'm very glad they have an outdoor option in the winter, and that it is a good option!
It was for my birthday party. It was clear nice wind and heaters were working. Dinner was fantastic as was dessert. Thank you.
We love the Skylark! One of our favorite restaurants in all of Bellingham. We go there every time we get to come up and see our son who attends Western. The food is absolute delicious, the service is impeccable and the restaurant itself is interesting and unique. I’ve had multiple meals on the menu and have never been disappointed.
We made a reservation well in advance and arrived a few minutes early. There were many empty tables and yet we were seated right next to the kitchen entry! We heard clanging and kitchen talk thoughout our meal, which was barely warm. Not returning!
Aside from the light flickers, it was another wonderful visit. The food was spectacular, the service was great and the ambiance was romantic. Perfect place for a date night.
We were going to sit outside but my other two friends were cold and wanted to sit inside. So we did. The server was great. Friendly and knowledgeable. Was quiet when we were there.
Skyler is absolutely my favorite café in Bellingham. Got to enjoy a lovely breakfast out with my brother and sister-in-law. The service was excellent and friendly. And, as always the food was outstanding.
Servers were friendly. Service was excellent
Decorated for the holidays, atmosphere was festive.
Unusually inadequate service. Server was very pleasant but absent a lot. Food was very good & will assume this was an anomaly. Restaurant was not packed out, so I don’t think that was the cause.
it was a joy to take my grandchildren out for a thanksgiving dinner which was as traditional as it was delicious
We waited for over 10 minutes after being seated before anyone came to our table. Then they asked us to move tables.
Have been to Skylark's in different seasons and for different occasions, always a great experience!
My wife and I went for Thanksgiving dinner. We had never been to a restaurant for Thanksgiving, and we had never been to Skylark’s before either. But they were reviewed well, so we decided to give it a try.
What a treat!
They sat us right away. The service was great, and the food was absolutely delicious! Everything we had was scrumptious - including dessert! We shared a slice of pumpkin cheesecake, and it was absolutely incredible! One of the best we have ever tasted!
Our thanks to the restaurant staff for sacrificing their Thanksgiving time to make our dinner special!
Super sweet server who’s birthday is today! Food and drinks were good and we’ll be back.
I've been to Skylark's Hidden Cafe tons of time and looked forward to enjoying a Thanksgiving meal there with my 86-year-old mother. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. Immediately, we were assaulted by the extremely loud (somewhat obnoxious) volume in the room primarily coming from staff behind the bar and the clanking of dishes as the bus staff dropped plates into their tub after clearing tables. It was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk.
We asked twice and were denied the opportunity to change tables. We requested that the staff be asked to quiet down more than once. The hostess returned to tell us that the staff were doing their jobs best they can (a totally weird response). Sadly, we sat at our Thanksgiving table staring at each other unable to speak over the volume.
Instead of a leisurely meal, I wanted to eat and escape. Service was acceptable, but the food arrived after sitting for a time -- it wasn't hot. Not everything arrived on the plate, so we had to ask for missing menu items. The meal tasted fine, but it wasn't up to Skylark's previous standards.
Before we finished our meal, the check arrived -- a clear signal that they wanted us to vacate the table for the next customers. No waitstaff asked if we wanted to order dessert (pumpkin pie anyone?) or a post-meal cup of coffee.
We paid and once outside, I thought "what the heck was that?" We would have had a better meal with a better environment sitting in the middle of a pub on a Friday night. I can't imagine ever going back to Skylark's Hidden Cafe for their special holiday meal. Save your money, it's best that they stay "hidden" on a holiday.
Juliet- I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your experience and felt we didn't deliver on your expectations for us on Thanksgiving Day. It was the first time we have been open on Thanksgiving Day and were fully booked, along with several hundred take out meals. It was a record day for us and put a lot of pressure on all of us and systems. Hopefully we can take your feedback and build on it to create a better experience for all next time. Thank you for your feedback. Sincerely, Brad Haggen Owner
The ambiance and service at Skylark's Hidden Cafe was exceptional and really made for a festive Thanksgiving. Thank you to Ella, our server, who met our every need.
We were outside in the covered, open-sided heated area and it was warm, and cozy. The food was delicious and the staff speedy and efficient, not to mention, nice! I recommend Skylark’s.
We enjoyed our food (beef stew and French dip sandwich) and a side house salad that was very fresh. The only negative comment about the French dip is that the au jus tasted a bit like soy sauce, which doesn't seem right. However, the amount of beef in the sandwich was generous. The stew was especially good, with homemade mashed potatoes, which was comforting on a cold, rainy night. Service was slow but pleasant, and we love the atmosphere of the historic building and antique decor. We'll be back.
Cocktails and appetizers were fine, however, we did not appreciate having our entrees served before we had a chance to eat our appetizers. Entrees were tepid in temperature. We will not be going back.
Cesar salad was tasty but romaine was passable, not really crisp. We both ordered oyster po’boys. Oysters heavily breaded, not battered. They appeared to be a frozen, breaded product, like breaded shrimp. Disappointing. The bun was a hamburger bun, a few days old. Fries were room temperature, dry and chewy. The cup of clam chowder was very good according to my companion.
The food was amazing. Their steak bites were outstanding and I loved the clams. Server was great and the place is really pretty.
Stroganoff was good,, but a bit dry and gravy dark, nit much beef, not quite creamy enough. Lovely service. Noticed you are now a higher priced ala carte menu. This will unfortunately and necessarily reduce the frequency of our visits. Love the place and ambience and service.
We got lunch at it was great! I ordered salmon and my date ordered A French dip. Both were amazing; probably the best French dip I've ever eaten. Service was very friendly. The Smores martini and the pecan old fashioned were tasty and unique. Very nice experience and the building itself is quite classy. Would definitely return.
Wonderful food. Great music! Outside seating options. Welcoming and cozy
Our reservation was at noon and we were sat right away. After that it all went downhill. They tried to get the heat lamps working but could not get it to work. We and the other tables kept smelling gas and it was a bit scary. We did not get waited on for 15 min and our food came at 1:10, an hour and ten minutes after being sat; an hour after ordering. My chicken sandwich was stone cold and I sent it back. They brought it back in 5 minutes without the fries and they microwaved the whole plate, burning the bacon and cooking the avocado and Mayo at high. My chicken was hard from being cooked twice. We watched two other tables getting their food to go after being served since it was such a long wait. I can wait but this was bad and the food was not good. Plus they served a slice of tomato that was green and had the stem. Asked for my fries back which was my same fries that were cold from sitting in the kitchen.
Service was a little slow, but they were very busy and working very hard.
Good not up to par.
As we had a reservation for Sunday lunch, we arrived and were seated immediately. The staff was very nice and our server was very good. We were checked on by other staff at least a few times.
I had the California Omelette, which I enjoyed very much and the coffee was kept full.
We were seated in the back which also has a back door that leads to outdoor seating. As the weather was sort of cold/rainy, it was a little uncomfortable as people went in and out, so we kept our jackets on. This was our second time eating here, the first was a couple years ago, and we'll certainly come back as well as recommend them to others.
Excellent as always - I have to go to Skylarks every time Im in Bellingham!
Good food, and wonderful service. The atmosphere is unique and relaxing.
Anniversary dinner. We were well taken care of by our server and the food was excellent. They seated us right away and the food arrived very quickly as well. Would recommend to anyone as a casual dining experience or for special occasions.
