Arrived at restaurant on a Sat night for a reservation ahead of show and front door was locked, only to be told it was held for a private event and we would not be served, despite having confirmed the reservation ahead of time by both text & Open Table. Either Smith & Porter or Open Table really really screwed up by taking the reservations. Avoid this place. Open Table needs to fix the app from taking unfulfillable reservations.

We had a wonderful family dinner at Smith and Porter last night. Arrived before 6:00 and took advantage of the fabulous deals on their happy hour menu. We were seated at at a large round table and the whole family was able to interact and hear each other. Our server was a delight!

The service was wonderful and attentive without being bothersome. The atmosphere was nice and chill. I had the Pomelo Kick from the Zero Proof menu and would definitely order another. The asparagus soup was tasty and my wife enjoyed the gnudi. I had the burger and was unimpressed. I ordered it medium and it was closer to rare. The amount of dijonaise and onion jam made me feel like I needed a shower after eating it. Far too messy considering we were going to the Guthrie afterwards. I’d be fine going back but won’t get the burger

We really enjoyed our dinners, the Caesar salad was truly authentic, the bouillabaisse was flavorful, the gnocchi was excellent. I would say the food was on the top of my list of restaurants I have visited in my three trips to Minneapolis in the past year. I’ve been to too many trendy downtown spots where it seems like it’s more about being seen than the food.

We stopped in for a business dinner. I had the crispy chicken sandwich, friend had the sea bass. Th location is clean and quiet, but very dated. The server seemed busy with other things, but the restaurant was empty. I found the sandwich a decent but plain. The fish portion was small. The menu choices seemed dated. This visit wasn’t offensive or dirty, just not exciting.

Service was good; staff friendly. Food was not good. Ordered prawns and linguini. The pasta was very undercooked, not even close to al dente, and the prawns were over cooked and had to be pealed to eat which I found odd for a pasta dish. When asked for a salad dressing choices I asked for a vinaigrette and received a small dish of balsamic vinegar. That’s it. 100% vinegar. My husband asked for ranch and I watched them squeeze ranch from single serve packets into a small dish for him. Maybe this is normal? The chicken I ordered was served with a plain baked potato, which I also found odd. No butter or any other topping. Just a plain potato. I would say the popovers with honey butter was the best thing we ate during our visit. They were super good. While to staff was very nice, I don’t think we will go back.

Close to the theater, but go early - service is sweet but not really attentive- not ideal for making a show. Small menu with usual items, they should be able to knock this out with so few items and no one had anything that was ‘good’ much less standout. Hotel guests only kind of place…

The restaurant knew we were dining with a time frame (theater tickets) that they were very aware of. They made our dinner service relaxed but also mindful of the schedule. Also — popovers! What a nice surprise. Great service, good cocktails, a very pleasant experience.

Special occasion (New Year’s Eve) dinner was enjoyable but more than needed or expected. Menu included full dinners with wine, entree, vegetable, potato, salad and large dessert. We would have preferred ala carte options. Warm, large popovers with honey butter were excellent. Prime rib, carrots and potato were very good even though menu specified mashed potatoes and scalloped potato was served. Partner’s butter nut ravioli was too salty to be enjoyed. Dessert was a large serving of frosted red velvet cake topped with large chocolate covered strawberry. Each of us enjoyed two servings of cake the next day.

It was fabulous! We went to Smith and Porter’s New Year’s Eve Dinner, and were very pleased. Kailee, our waitress was friendly, helpful and knowledgable. The music level was tolerable, the noise level in general was low enough for a nice conversation. And we love the ambience with a nice fireplace, great soft illumination and tables not crowded. We had the Sea Bass, and the chefs sure know how to cook fish (that is true for other seafood menu items as well.) The sides of grilled asparagus and a pea salad (I want that recipe) were delicious, and the luscious and huge red velvet cake was applauded as well. I hope that soon there will be something very chocolaty (gluten- and lactose free) for my tastebuds, too. Which brings me to a little praise of the ease with which the staff (Alex in particular) try to make their guests happy. Thank You Smith and Porter, for a wonderful New Year’s Eve 2022. See you again next year!

Our experience at Smith & Porter was a total disappointment! We were on time for our reservation at 5:30 and finally had the Mpls Parking App figured out at 6:00. We had to be at the Guthrie at 7:00, so we asked the Server what we could get quickly and she said that unfortunately the chicken took 30 minutes, but a burger with fries was fast, so we ordered burgers. By 6:50, we still had no food, so we left. I still wonder if the chef walked out because the table next to us (they were there before us) never received their food either. I will never return to this establishment again! Very disappointing...

4 of us had the Prime Rib at $39.95. The two ordered medium rare were about 1/4 inch thick. Impossible to cook to medium rare. The two who ordered it medium well got meat that was about 3/4 inch thick. None of the 4 were as tender as they should have been.

Walleye sandwich was crisp and fresh tomato, lettuce, and small amount of sauce complemented it perfectly-I appreciated not having too many additions. Roll was not soggy. House made potato chips were delicious—so much better than packaged. I will order this again. My friends reported that the risotto was perfect and the black & blue steak salad tasty.

Great venue in a beautiful setting. The dining room is well designed and the chairs are comfortable. The brunch menu is straight forward breakfast fare; omelettes, classic breakfast, etc. bottomless mimosas and bloody Mary’s are available and are pretty good. The service is friendly and helpful but could be a little more polished. We had some slight delays with the food but they offered to comp some items, we declined, it wasn’t that big of a deal. Definitely going again as the place is a good value and a nice venue.

Smith and Porter had a “live music” event, and it was nice. Jazz guitarist Fred Espanoza gave his debut at Smith and Porter, and he was especially worth listening to when he played without his percussion background. He is good. Food was nice, although I’d like to see a gluten (and maybe lactose free) dessert on the menu. I love seeing the restaurant thriving, onward Smith and Porter!

We had a 6 pm reservation before a show at the Guthrie and looked forward to a quiet meal beforehand. We were seated and unfortunately it wasn’t until we had been there about 10 minutes before a server acknowledged us - almost as though the servers, who we could see all of them, were arguing who was responsible for our table. Fortunately once our server was established the rest of our experience was great.

We had the walleye, and as before, it was very good. Ella, our waitress was nice as she always is, accommodating and attentive, and we had a great time as usual. The popovers were good as usual, and Ella had gluten free toast for me, loved it. One note: I’d like to listen to a less challenging music than Miles Davis but that’s just me not being a fan of his style of jazz. It was a fun evening.

Smith and Porter was, before the pandemic, one of our go-to places. I am happy to report, it is back! Under new management, ED Keoni, chef Antoine and their team have done a great job rejuvenating the restaurant. A smaller, yet new, very nice menu, and especially with many items catering to the vegetarian, vegan, gluten free community, and accommodating special needs guests, I am very pleased to say, it is a place to try out again. Our waiter Alex was wonderful, the food was excellent, the wine good, and we had a great time. Thank you!

I hate to say this about S&P, because it used to be a nice restaurant. It has gone totally downhill. Their menu states that the dinners come with one side. We ordered our sides and then got some awful, bland mashed potatoes in addition to what we ordered. Then, they charged us for the side of Brussels sprouts. My wife's chicken dinner was just acceptable and part of the chicken wasn't cooked. My hamburger was too well done, but alright. It was not worth $28 (with the awful mashed potatoes). What a joke this place has turned into after its reopening. We spent over $100 (including $20 for our supposed to be included sides) for dinners that should have cost $50 or $60. Plus, we waited an inordinate amount of time to even get water. I set my timer, as I usually don't wait a half hour for water. We were about to leave when the waitress came to our table. I wish that she had waited a little longer to visit us. We will not be going back.

Smith & PorterResponded on October 12, 2022Hi EatingWell, We would like to apologize for the mix-up with your side dishes. We regret that your evening with us was less than ideal as proving our guests with a memorable dining experience is very important to us. It's unfortunate our menu didn't meet your expectations. We hold ourselves to a high standard so we'll address your concerns with our team moving forward. We do hope you give us another opportunity to share a more positive experience with you soon.
