Had a fabulous birthday dinner here. Service went above and beyond, loved the wine list and expertise, and the food is exquisite - Loads of awesome local ingredients. There is nothing like a restaurant that is owned, operated, and staffed with people who have a passion for flavours and the fun experience of dining. An absolute pleasure!

Always an interesting choice to dine out with locally sourced products for tapas. A great addition to the Edmonton food restaurant scene to get away from the usual pub style food and steak. The tapas are extremely flavourful and served like food art on wonderful pottery.
The wine and cocktail list is short and very overpriced. ($16 for Aperol Spritz)
Our meal consisted of 6 oysters and boy were they fresh but $25 is a bit much. A flatbread similar to Naan with a couple of spreads (sausage was good but sour cream not so much) about $16, 3 mushrooms over a garlic paste...very good but not worth $23 and finally a pork chop that was tasty but again not worth $36.
the concept is ok, food items were good but price point not worth it IMO.
Good food, friendly staff. It's a little barren inside, but that's probably COVID. They accommodated our group well and we'll definitely be back in the future.
Enjoyed an incredible evening on the back patio: took two newcomers (& a seasoned Smokey Bear veteran) and explored the chef’s tasting menu over three hours of conversation. Each dish was presented exquisitely, but somehow managed to taste even better. The shrimp and mushroom dumplings were too die for, and the chef generously added the scallop ceviche to our plates. After many visits, this was a favourite tasting menu as the summer produce has arrived at Smokey Bear. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Great food and excellent service. A must for foodies in Edmonton.
Food was delicious but the portions were really small. They sell you the idea of a family style dinner but the portions are personal.
Flavour was great but we were still hungry after spending 150 bucks in food. That’s just not fair.
The food was so outstanding + the portions were perfect. We loved that the food was interesting but accessible and ultimately, so delicious. We will definitely be back!

Went to celebrate new job for my partner. Food and drinks were amazing! Wonderful service, took time to explain everything to us and the story behind the food! Sat on the patio, which was a bit noisy due to traffic, but we enjoyed it.
Tasting menu was excellent! Highly recommend it. Cocktails were good, beer selection nice. didn't check out the wines.
Had dinner with wife last Thursday eve, and sat outside a one of the patio tables. Riley greeted us, and Gillian took our orders. I had pork chop, wife had beef rib, along with side of asparagus. Done to perfection, wine choices were very interesting, dessert was to die for, almost licked the plate! Servers took time to explain details without being overbearing. Do yourself a favour and check this place out. A small gem in Old Strath. Thank you Riley and staff, and continued success! We'll be back soon!

The food was overpriced for what you get with the Chef’s tasting menu. The chef had no clue where he sourced his fish from so that was frustrating to have a conversation about. It seemed tense after I asked him about that and he really didn’t know. Fantastic service from our female server and the wine choice from her was amazing.
Food was inspired and amazing! Attentive service. Loved this place and will be back soon!!
I am sure you were expecting this terrible review! We made ourselves quite vocal with our horrendous experience! Granted we were not the beast customers! However we had money! And I would like to assume the biggest bill of the evening. I will be open and honest I did not tip on a $115 bill (my portion only) The reason I did not tip was due to poor service. We were never asked how our meals were. I am sure you were aware of our displeasure since we vocalized it over and over! It still would have been nice to have been asked. We left before our last course of the worst and most expensive tasting menu I have experienced. We had to go for pizza after spending over $300 on your establishment. An excellent new Edmonton eatery. Food is thoughtfully prepared and excellently cooked, everything we tried was excellent but the Tartare and the grilled flatbreads will keep us coming back. The Tartare has a lovely smokiness enhanced by the hearth-dried tomatoes, I can't imagine coming and not ordering this dish. The flatbreads with ndjua and other condiments is similarily exceptional. Even coming here for a beer and snack would be an excellent treat. Try it, you won't be dissapointed.
This was our first visit and it was outstanding. The food was creative and delicious and the staff was exceptional. We've already recommended to friends.

With the restaurants re-opening on the same day as our 21st anniversary we decided to try Smokey Bear a small open cook fire restaurant that had been on my “must try” list since they first opened.
We had the chef’s tasting menu & everything was phenomenal. It was interesting because likely I would not of chosen any of the items on my own, but they were all so good.
Highlights- course 1 flat bread with a spreadable salami. I had no idea spreadable salami was an option. This may change my life because I will be getting more somehow.
Course 3- candied salmon which was amazing and kind of reminded us of dried fish which we have only gotten in NWT. But it was served with a simple onion cream sauce that blew me away. Amazing!
Course 4- a mix of tomatoes, fresh made cheese curds and herbs. So fresh and flavourful (this was one of my husbands favourite items)
Course 5- king oyster with a gravy-like sauce. This was the best mushroom I have ever are. My husband said that is a rather bold statement considering how many fresh mushrooms I have ate. But I stand by the statement. Best mushroom ever!
Course 6- pork belly with charred cabbage and a whole slew of condiments- amazing! Flavours were on point, pork was juicy and flavourful. My favourite part of the meal.
I thought I was too full for desert but the mango custard was so light fluffy and fresh tasting impossible to turn down.
Wow- that was a lot of highlights! Guess it would simply be easer to say the whole meal was a highlight. I can not wait to go back!
We had a great experience sitting at the bar. All the Chefs we very engaging and the food was outstanding! We will be back!

The food was creative and interesting, but our choices tended to be overly acidic/vinegary so we could have used some more savoury flavours to balance that.
I thought the wine list was way too expensive: starting red wine bottles at $65 - $67! Should have some more options - other fine dining establishments in town offer at least some wines in the $45 - 50 range

We enjoyed the chef selection which consisted of many shared dishes. All were excellent. The servers were knowledgeable regarding their food. You could eat at a table or around the chefs creating your food. Great atmosphere however the cost was a bit high. Overall would highly recommend.

The service was strange and polite, but not friendly or helpful. While I was asked six times (not an exaggeration) if I wanted something other than water to drink, at no point were any of us asked if we enjoyed any part of our meal, even at the point of payment.
Our server sped through listing off what was in each of our dishes at such lightning speed that you'd think they were very busy, however the restaurant was half empty. She was pleasant, but after the rapid fire delivery of what was on each dish she just as quickly ran off so we didn't get a chance to ask for a repeat performance. The menu's bare bones approach of listing the main ingredients didn't help us much either.
We ordered dessert first, informed our server that we'd be ordering the rest shortly, and the other server on the floor very abruptly and without any explanation, completely silently in fact, stripped away our unused and untouched plates, cutlery, and napkins to replace them with new plates and spoons. However only one of the three of us got a complete setting back.
The food wasn't bad, it was meh and expensive for meh. The pork chop ($36) was very much burnt; it was dry and difficult to eat and the accompanying harissa was over cooked, lacked brightness and depth. The steak ($38) was cooked well, but had no seasoning and was served on a bed of oily mystery sauce. The eggplant ($18) was cold, which wasn't expected or explained, bitter, and just plain weird. It was hands down the worst thing we had and none of us could finish it. The pork belly ($14) was cut thin, bacon style, woven around onion slices on two skewers and lacked any real flavour. The tartare ($24) was good though the portion was small and it was served with charred thin bread that was overly oily. The dessert ($14) was a winter citrus custard/pudding with a flat piece of meringue on top and caramelized white chocolate chunks; nice enough mild flavour though the chunks were hard like rock candy and difficult to chew.
We are saddened that you had such a negative experience. We hope you will be able to give us a second chance in the future when we reopen for dine in.
The waitress was very knowledgeable with the menu and food preparation and ingredients and willing to help out but we decided on the Chefs menu which saved the problem of trying to choose. The courses started to arrive a fairly quickly and we asked to have things slowed down so we could savour and enjoy.
A very imaginative and unique menu, a little on the pricey side but well worth it. We will return and bring friends.

Best meal and dining experience I’ve ever had in Edmonton. Staff and owners are exceptionally knowledgeable, and care deeply about what they are producing and serving. The food is unique and while the menu might look small the diverse dishes are reflective of a large complement of flavours and cooking techniques. Smokey eggplant with a sweet berry hit, fresh and spicy oysters, rich and delicate octopus, intense pork chop and the flatbread and dips to go with it all ... truly spectacular. And the cocktails and wine and beer curation is next level. This restaurant is deserving of much more hype. Go now, before everyone figures it out.
