Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.

Socarrat is a great place for tapas, which is all we get each time we're there. I recommend the croquetas, datiles, atun, and alcachofas. we always eat outside in their front tables since these are well covered from sun and rain. Staff are super nice and often provide something extra if you order desserts too -- cheese cake is always excellent. definitely a great place to go for tapas in NYC.

the food was absolutely fabulous. got a whole bunch of tapas. really delish. we sai in the back patio. lovely setting. the service was very good until the end when we had to chase down our waiter for the check, although asking for it earlier. otherwise, perfect.

Over the years, I have loved Socarrat and it used to be one of my favorite places to go for dinner and everyone I took there loved it. As a matter of fact, one year, i took about 20+ people and booked the whole back room. I have noticed that the quality went down a bit over the years and yesterday was very very disappointing. None of the four tapas we ordered were good (actually on the poor side) and the waiter was gruff and somewhat rude. We got two of our tapas first and then there was a long wait and we called the waiter inquiring about where rest of the food was and he said something to the affect that we have a 'two tapas rule'. Is there any other rule we need to know about??? Also he was least interested in taking our order or engaging in conversation about the food. Very disappointing. Definitely and sadly never going there again.

Soccarat never disappoints. We weren’t sure of our exact headcount, and a few people were late, but the staff accommodated us with no problem. Our waiter was very helpful in describing the dishes and helping us select the best choice for our group. The food is always delicious.

Overall not a bad experience, but very expensive for what you get. The tapas were quite good but the paella which should be the star was kind of mediocre. The price was substantially higher than what I expected for the meal we received.

The Begum Playaneuron and I visited Socarrat after a show at New York Live Arts. We had a seafood paella, shishito peppers as a starter. The food was excellent. In particular we asked for a good socarrat on the paella and got it! I had a glass of an excellent, crisp alberino. A great after dance theater place, near both the Joyce and New York Live Arts.

We ate outside which wasn't too bad once the wind died down. of our 5 tapas, 4 were excellent (especially the dates and crocetas). We'll come again when it's a bit warmer. Indoor eating is all at the bar or high tables which is why we chose outdor regular tables. Staff are great.

I’ve been going to Socarrat for a very long time but it has been quite a while since I had attended. As always, sangria is a must. My date had never been there and is new to the New York food scene. I wanted her to try things she’s never had before and wanted it to be a great experience for her. I ordered 3 appetizers, lamb chops, patatas, and octopus. Having been deep in conversation, the only app we received was the lamb chops. They brought out the paella with was good but again, not up to my standards. I’d expect that from a fast food chain but I certainly have higher expectations from Socarrat. It was a bit upsetting but it is what it is. Overall, my date was happy.

The only reason I didn’t go higher on atmosphere, was that we were outdoors- but that was our choice( due to COVID) it was a grey and rainy day and we were the only ones out there. inside atmosphere seemed warm and fun. Our waiter (Diego?) and the manager ( Moise) we’re welcoming, informed and attentive. The paella was wonderful! ( squid ink) My second time there- Will be back again!
