We sat outside and had a wonderful experience. When the weather cooled off, they turned on the outside heaters, and it was toasty and warm. The food is excellent as is the service. will definitely go back.

Came based on the Michelin guide. We were sat outside which seemed great until the jets started flying over. My friend and I would haunt our conversation to allow the very near-flying planes to pass so we could hear each other again. Ordered a recommended cocktail with lime and maraschino cheery juice that was very sour and light on the alcohol. Had the goat cheese salad which was nice and based on the waitresses recommendation, had the pork chop. The portion was small but it was tasty. The glaze and accompanying starch were also good but the volume was low. Finished with 2 scoops of gelato that were underwhelming with low flavor and moments of ice-crystal like texture. While our server, Paula, was attentive when we arrived, we felt a little rushed. Towards the end of our meal a different server was tending to us. We asked where Paula went and he said she had worked a long day and was scheduled to leave. I’ve been a server and shift change happens, but the courteous thing is to let your guests know and provide them with the name of the new server. It made sense to us after this happened why we initially felt rushed. Would return, but would sit inside and order wine.

This restaurants permits dogs in the inside dining area. When we saw this we left without eating food. Imagine what the kitchen hygiene is like if animals are allowed in dining area. We are not from San Diego so perhaps you don't have codes that cover this.

Great lunch on Sunday morning. Not busy and the food and service were both fantastic. Had dinner at Il Fornaio recently as well. The view across to SD at night at Il Fornaio was better but the food was better here. Had the Pici Co’ Brici, pizza, eggplant parmigiana, seafood pasta, and chicken Marsala, all outstanding.

Honestly, just not what it was hyped to be, especially in the gluten-free situation. Within 5 minutes of being seated we had three different staff members come ask about drinks and explain the specials to us. I'm all about attentiveness, but it was overkill and felt like the staff was confused about who was actually taking our table. Our fourth server told us the manger would come open the wine but to "make sure you don't give her your food order." Then the manager asked for our food order so that was awkward. Are we supposed to say someone else told us not to tell you? The gluten-free bread was good - reminded us of a bao bun. Everything else (risotto, GF pizza, and GF penne with bolognese) was just OK. Nothing was great, portions seemed small for the prices, and we were really hoping for more in terms of GF pasta options. The best thing we had was the wine.

Wonderful restaurant with a variety of seating options- indoors and outside. Suitable for multiple size groups. Lovely for intimate groups, conversation, foodies and celebrations. Good wine selections, helpfull staff and unique deliciously seasoned menu.

We arrived 1/2 hr early and the staff graciously accommodated us immediately on a Saturday night. Everyone was happy with their first courses-stuffed zucchini blossoms, a burrata salad and a special of large shrimp. The sauce on the veal saltinbocca was great! Our guest loved her lamb chops, which were perfectly done. All in all an excellent dinner.

Nice restaurant, first time guests. The specialty drinks were very good, cold and flavorful. The appetizers and pasta entrees were good, not great although the Fettucine with Shrimp was delightful. The tiramisu was ok. It was a creative idea putting it in a flower pot but it was heavy and thick and it should be fluffy and light. The service at the table was very good. They were attentive and friendly. The hostess on the other hand looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. The bar was lively and they have an extensive list of wines from Italy.

For a Bib Gourmand restaurant, Solare was a bit disappointing. My fiance and I came for a date night, and from the moment our waiter came to welcome us in, it was clear that they were understaffed. We waited 10 mins just to be given a cocktail menu, then another 10 before our orders were taken, then were brought the wrong drink before actually getting the ones we ordered - and for all of that they ended up being weak and over-sweetened. For food, we stuck to appetizers so that we could try a variety, but weren't really happy with any of them. The zucchini blossoms were over-fried and overpowered by mint. The "extra large plump" shrimp special was $20 for just 2 shrimp pieces and wasn't worth the price, even though the sauce was actually quite good. The fig and prosciutto salad was just ok, and the calamari + shrimp + veggie assortment was standard fare that could be mistaken for a tourist trap dish. The flavors of the shrimp special was the only redeeming part of the experience which is why we're giving 3 stars. However, for the acclaimed award that Bib Gourmand is, it did not meet expectations.

Great waiter who helped with wine and meal selection. We split appetizer which was a special of fried zucchini flower. Each ordered a main and split a dessert. Delicious food but my husband’s pasta portion was too small. He had a bowl of cereal when we got home. I had fish special which was delicious and a sufficient portion

We have eaten at Solare many times. unfortunately, our experience, this time was not as good. The waiter was below par. He had trouble remembering the orders, even though there were only three of us at the table. we all ordered starters and main courses, and he could not remember two of the three main courses! He missed one order completely, asking if all she wanted was a salad. With another order, he asked twice and then still heard “linguini with clams” instead of “catch oh the day “. One of us thought maybe he was high. While the food was mostly good, the opah was almost raw in the middle, and very difficult to eat even with a knife. The waiter didn’t check in to see how her meals were until we were finished, so there wasn’t even a chance to let him know about the undercooked fish.

My boyfriend is from New York and has a great appreciation for Italian food. I took him to Solare for his birthday and he absolutely loved it. Server was excellent, very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. In particular, squash soup for our first course - so delicious. For the main course, he had the lamb shops and I had pappardelle bolognese - both were delicious. Great ambiance, excellent service, delectable Italian cuisine. Perfect!

Service was terrible, host didn’t acknowledge us when we got there. Not friendly at all. I ask them to exclude item and they still put it on the plate. I have to remind the waiter 3 times about our wine and water. Dessert was terrible and when it came time to pay we waited 30mins after our table was cleared before we got the bill. Then another 15mins to come get it. Not going there again.

The only areas that were "less than" is the noise, constantly stopping our conversation due to planes flying overhead (we were sitting outside however!) and portions could have been a bit larger, we wanted more of the deliciousness!

Overall, this is a good place to eat (our first time here). However, on this day, the service was lacking. The people were very nice, but there were not enough people working which slowed service dramatically. Drinks from the bar at the start of the dinner took over 30 minutes to get to us. The whole night was like that. Additionally, sitting outside, while pleasant weather, was interrupted many, many times by planes flying overhead (very close to the airport). The planes are so loud, the waiter has to stop talking to allow them to pass. I would opt to sit indoors next time. As for the food, delicious. We will certainly try here again and sit inside. I would imagine that with the right staffing and no planes, our experience would be very different.

Our birthday dinner was great. Four of us celebrating birthdays in August. Our appetizers were great. Main entree were tasty. I had a wine pairing recommended by our server, and it was great! Our server was great too.

Our server greeted us upon arrival and told us he would be taking care of us. Two other employees took our wine and food orders and asked how the food was. Our original “server” finally came back after we had finished and told us he would be leaving and he would be transferring his table to another employee. We simply asked for the check at this point because we were finished. We closed out and he had the audacity to tell my wife and I we undertipped him when we left 20%…. Shocking experience…

Food was good and the restaurant appears to be highly rated. Service was really bad. We had concert tickets and informed the server that we had 1:40 minutes to eat before we had to leave. We were assured that we had plenty of time. The server took our wine and food order. The wine took 20 minutes to be brought to the table. One in our party ordered a coke it took 15 minutes to get it and it was flat and another ten minutes to get a replacement. We finally got the wine and when the food came we only had thirty minutes to eat before we had to leave. The server knew we were not happy and offered us a free dessert . We agreed and paid before the dessert arrived we still had about ten minutes before our ride arrived. The dessert came out just as our ride arrived and we had to leave. Hopefully the restaurant gets its act together before more people are disappointed.

We come here a few times a year and have always been impressed until our most recent experience. We waited over an hour for our food, and one of our entrees came out incorrect. We got bread half an hour in. The food was good, but it’s been better. We will not be coming back here for a long time.

Was very happy with the quality of the food. Presentation was nice, however 2 in our group got pizza which was over cooked, crust was inedible and toppings on both were very dry. Other than that, the appetizers and other entrees were delicious. Bread for the table was good but we only got one very small dish of oil for 5.

This place is just perfect for a beautiful dinner, it was an amazing atmosphere! Food was delightful and fenomenal service! Not too pricey and the variety of wines are fantastic! Plenty recommend! Francisco was the best, outstanding service! My favorite dish was the watermelon salad! 🤩

Food is delicious and beautifully presented. Salad came before appetizer. Had to ask for bread although the “selling” point made by the server for the appetizer and salad was the bread to accompany the selections. Very comfortable and very relaxed atmosphere. Felt like we were in a home in Italy. But airplanes roaring overhead every 8 minutes was annoying . We ate outdoors. Best to eat indoors and would definitely go back !!!

I have four stars because the food was delicious and our waitress Julie was very nice. Other than that I found the portion sizes to be very small for the price, the entrees were $29-$39 each. We ordered 2 appetizers and had bread, which we had to practically beg for and they served in little cubes. We had outdoor seating on a porch where people were constantly walking by to get in and out of the restaurant, planes were flying overhead every few minutes and bus staff were constantly trying to remove our plates while there was still good to be consumed. We were charged for an extra drink we didn’t order but did receive a free dessert as it was my husbands birthday. I made my reservation on line a week in advance and only had the option for outdoor seating. Indoors was not busy so I’m not sure what the was about. I can’t say I will rush to return but if I do I will sit indoors.
