We have always enjoyed coming here. This last visit is no exception. Good menu, good food, great parking and nice ambience.
The food was good but it was the worst service I've had in a long time. It was a Sunday night and not even that crowded. Our waiter was very rude and seemed put out to even be serving us to begin with. I asked for parmesan with my dinner and he said "if you'd like" then gave me some and stormed off without asking if my wife would like any which she did. When he came to our table he just seemed like he couldn't get away from us fast enough. We asked for more bread with our main course and he never brought it. I was honestly shocked with how rude he was. He didn't even smile once. I'm in a industry that involves service. He should not be in service. I will NEVER go back to this place!
Delicioso! La comida estuvo muy bien, y el creme brûlée de pistacho estuvo increíble.
We found the welcome hospitality to be friendly and greeted in a professional manor.
The service was very good: the food was excellent, well seasoned therefore delicious.
We will be back. Thank you
Beautiful setting, very nice server, food is delicious (4 of us had 4 different entrees, 2 different salads). Definitely looking forward to returning!
Food is spectacular...service was poor.....had to ask for everything, server had no initiative...manager stopped at table right next to ours and asked how things were...didn’t care to ask us...outdoor dining is pleasant except for fact that a commercial jet flies overhead in takeoff mode every few minutes...the conversation stops and need to plug your ears...while the food is excellent, the pricing is out of whack...very expensive for what you get....will have to think if we will come here again...lots of pros and equal number of cons..
A really great restaurant that’s under the radar and not a lot of nights where it’s over sold. We had the lobster pasta and lamb chops and both were fabulous, service was great and the wine selection is very good
Restaurant week, a bit over priced for the small quantity but everything was excellent tasting! Was unaware of high plane noise over the restaurant, it was intrusive, pricing should reflect this, would try again inside.
Had fixed menu for restaurant week. Would definitely go back to try other dishes.
First time at Solare Ristorante. Outstanding ! The 2 hostesses were very accommodating. Arrived early, went to Lounge had an appetizer and cocktails. Delicious ! We were seated and continued to indulge in some of the BEST food I ever tasted. I had Scallops with risotto and black truffles.....OMG !!! All four of us had "Clean Plate Club". Not a speck of food left. They surprised us with a cake (complimentary) since it was our son's 40th birthday. I will definitely return and bring some friends.
We always have a great meal at Solare, And they create such a festive and welcoming environment!
We are especially picky for Restaurant Week, and were very gratified at the quality of the food, the price, and the excellent service.
Randy and his crew create a very special atmosphere, which we were happy to be part of
Excellent all around!
The food was good and the service was excellent. Wine was priced right. The owner came by our table and others’ to say hello. Such a nice personal touch. Will definitely go back.
Just average. Didn’t live up to hype in any respect.
We dine at Solare regularly and always have a great experience. The food and service are fantastic and we love to eat on the outdoor patio. We are extra happy when we get to sit in Esma’s section as she is so friendly and remembers our favorite drinks and desserts. She also goes above and beyond to accommodate my gluten allergy every time. We will be back again soon.
I had high expectations due to their recent Michelin Bib Gourmand rating. Overall, the food was good, but not great. Prices and portions were OK. Plating was very nice so maybe that helps with the Michelin ratings. I liked the atmosphere both indoor and out. We had the spinach ravioli, charcuterie, osso bucco, pizza, chocolate mousse, and panna cotta. All were good, just not something special like I had hoped.
First time here in years, so it is under newer ownership. Went for Restaurant Week menu and were pretty disappointed. Very specifically:
- tortellonia vecchio modena - leaden. probably frozen previously (like many such ravioli-like affairs at most ristos), but made of too thick pasta and little sauce.
- pistacchio creme brulee - no brulee at all and cold like from freezer or at least fridge. Inedible. Should be called "creme unbrulee".
- sausage & funghi lasagna - ok except for stunning amount of non-truffle oil ( or truffle-like liquid). A little of this stuff goes a really long way.
Service careless, but OK. Wine list, small but OK.
Better place to go have some drinks in the hood.
Outside dining at this restaurant is lovely. A windbreak keeps the patio warm, yet fresh. Our meal was delicious. We shared three appetizers— local peach salad, charcuterie, and mussels. And we were full by the time we were done. Super restaurant!
Absolutely loved everything about this restaurant! Our server was excellent, menu had so many terrific choices, food was well prepared and tasty!
Wonderful food and service! A bit noisy outside with airplane traffic but very nice to sit outdoors otherwise.
Incredible setting. Delicious food. Thorough yet subtle service. Went there for restaurant week and we will definitely be back.
Great food and great options for those that are gluten free. The owner takes so much pride in creating great food in a lovely setting. The scallop risotto is delicious.
My husband and I have been many times. Last night was fantastic as usual.
I saw the restaurant reviewed on TV and the Ossobuco caught my eye. It did not disappoint. It was absolutely delicious. If I had one criticism I would wish for a little more gravy or juice with the meat. The appetizer's were incredible as well.
Our dinner was fantastic! We went during San Diego Restaurant week, so we got a deal, and it was so worth it. Food was fantastic and so was the service. Definitely recommend!!
My first experience at Solare was no way a “Wow.”
Unfortunately, this was my second experience there and again, nothing to “Wow” about.
Thought I’d give it another chance during SD Restaurant Week. There were four of us. Three of us ordered from the special RW menu. The fourth person ordered chicken Marsala from the regular menu.
None of us really enjoyed our meals. I had salmon, and two others had the osso buco from the RW menu.
Major complaint: no flavor, osso buco was over cooked, salmon was supposed to have an orange glaze/sauce (no orange flavor); salmon had the dark skin still attached (upper end restaurant usually removes it); chicken Marsala had no flavor, as well.
We asked for salt and pepper twice, and lemon to try to add flavor, but not too successful.
Service was just ok. I had asked to substitute risotto for the veggies… $8.00 charge!!! Wasn’t that great, either. Server told me I could have had regular risotto after I received my meal. Who knows why I wasn’t given the choice at the beginning.
Just had too many negatives. Definitely not a WOW guest experience. I have friends and family who like Solare, but not for me. Maybe I should have ordered the pasta! I Will NOT go back. 👎
Delicious food and drinks and friendly and efficient service. Try the pear and Gorgonzola pizza, you won’t be disappointed!
Excellent as always. Great food, excellent service. Always the best!!
Our Restaurant Week 3-course meals were very good - linguine/clams and salmon, plus the butternut squash soup! The 3 Italian wine pairing was nice, but small pours. Our meals arrived quickly, but no one cleared the empty wine glasses , and our server forgot my birthday candle. Hey, that's important at my age! But, our server made sure there was no lactose in my husband's dinner. The restaurant was very noisy, so conversing was not easy.
Food and drinks were amazing!! Say outside and the ambiance was amazing.
Amazing food! I could eat here every day!! The owner is also very nice & accommodating. Our waitress was a bit slow but I think that was due to a busy weekend crowd (and possibly, the ongoing staff shortage), but she was very nice. Inside was crowded and loud. We sat out, which was wonderful.
Great food and wine. And, I love the chocolate salami - a real treat!
Food was delicious and the service was great; the noise level was a pretty loud. Wouldn’t recommend for a romantic date night because of the noise level, unless that doesn’t bother you.
We got seating right away (inside) and the place is lovely. With outdoor seating, inside on two different areas as well as a chef’s counter, there was a lot to choose from so that made us happy.
The menu was great but this place really SHOULD be a $$ priced menu, as most of the full entrees were priced of $30. So that was a little deceiving. Not that the portions or the quality of the food was cheap or not worth it, it is just we had chosen this restaurant because we were looking for something a little more affordable. There are cheaper items such as pizzas, salads, great appetizers and such. But when a description says $30 and under, it really should have been listed at $$$ with $35 and under.
That being said the food was good but WAY too salty. I had to return my special salad the first time because it was soaked in salad dressing that I could even taste the items inside. But once I got it back it was better, but the shrimp I added to the salad was so salty but I didn’t want to make the others wait yet again so I just ate it. But my friend ordered the pistachio crusted halibut and had to stop eating that because it was also way too salty. I did try it and I will agree with him that someone in the kitchen was very heavy handed with the salt!
I would definitely come back though and give it another try.
After being seated, it took awhile before our server appeared to take our order. However, when he did, the service from that point on was stellar. We told him we were heading to a concert and what time we wanted to be out the door and he made it happen. Thanks Evan! The peach salad was delicious. The fettuccine with zucchini and shrimp was just ok. The noise level is high because it’s right under the flight path of San Diego International so that’s true if every restaurant at Liberty Station. Overall a good experience.
Excellent location in Liberty Station, and wonderful atmosphere! Randy, the owner, is a warm, friendly , and professional person who is always on hand with suggestions , and to make sure all is well!
The food is very enjoyable with a wide selection to meet many food interests. Service is moderate since you never know who is your server and who to request an additional bottle of wine from or other needs throughout your evening. The staff hustles but sometimes seems unfocused. These are difficult times for restaurants and their staffs so we gave allowances for this factor
Wonderful meal as always!
Our waitress helped us narrow down our choices and we were not disappointed.
