So, you can’t cook like Nonna? We’ve got you covered. Like his ancestors, Chef Enrico feels that food should be simple and made “farmer style,” with fresh, seasonal ingredients. All of our menu items are prepared with care in the traditional Italian fashion. Sauces are simmered for hours allowing for a true emersion of flavours. Similarly, our pizza dough is prepared in advance and allowed two days to rise — this grants that the yeast will complete its full growth cycle, creating a lighter meal. As Italian cuisine is so diverse, seasonal changes will be made to our menu; be sure to keep an eye out for new items, as well as old favourites. As is at home, our food is best enjoyed when shared family style, like the typical Italian dinner table.

Ordered a Salcissia Pizza and Let's just say if you go, stick with pizza. Read on for more.

We went for the dine-out to try the food, and let's just say everything was very sub-par.

Let's start with the Appetizers:
Taste: 3/5
Plating: 4/5
Portion: 5/5

Main Entreé
Out of the three pasta choices, one of them which was not available to me was the braised beef, but I saw everyone else getting it. They offered a substitute which was the ragu but me and my sister went with the mushroom pasta. Here is our review: (Tagliatelle el Tartufo)

Taste: 1.5/5 (Very one note and too creamy)
Portion: 5/5
Plating: 3/5 (it's just pasta placed on a plate.. nothing else, could have used some green garnish to heighten the presentation)

My brother ordered the other pasta which was with seafood, and here is his review: (Spaghetti alla Pescatora)

Taste: 2/5 (He is a pasta person, and he didn't finish it..)
Portion: 5/5
Plating: 4/5 (More to look at for this one)

When is original order came out, pasta was undercooked, and it was not al dente, if that's what you were thinking. So they had to remake.

Desserts
We got all three options
(Torta Della Nonna - Lemon Flavoured custard with shortbread crust)
Taste: 0.5/5 (lemon flavour felt like an afterthought, just sugar taste) if they are trying to create that taste then I guess they succeeded
Texture: mushy (almost felt like they microwaved it prior to serving)
Portion: 3.5/5 (Can't complain, because we only ate one bite so there was oodles left)
Plating: n/a it's just a slice of pie

Tiramisu*
Taste: 1/5 (Just a lot of Regular cream with no flavour throughout the dessert until you reach the bottom where there is alcohol
Texture: Tiramisu served in a glass cup... need I say more?
Plating: in a cup so n/a
Portion: 5/5 its full to the rim can't complain

Ciocolatto e Fragola (flourless chocolate cake)
Taste: 2/5 (Strawberry and Icecream on top of the cookie cake appearance made up for the taste)
Portion: 5/5 (can't complain)

We had a great time here.. The set menu for Dine Out Vancouver was amazing and the in house pasta was perfect.. Even desserts and cappuccino were top notch.

Really great pasta. The restaurant wasn’t too loud so you could actually talk to the people you’re with. The communal washrooms are progressive! Keep up the good work. We’ll be back.

We had great food, but were seated at a table right by the door, which was drafty. Also, one of our friends had asked to sample one of the wines, but the server forgot, and when reminded, she dropped off a full glass of wine instead. She seemed pretty new to restaurant service, and a little overwhelmed. The room is big, and lacking in warmth, but it's lively. We come for the food. I'd recommend sitting at the bar for more attentive service.

I love Italian food and am always on the lookout for a new restaurant to try. Sopra Sotto did not disappoint. The service was excellent, yet not overwhelming. The burrata board with prosciutto and foccacia was divine. Dinners, pasta and pizza, were really great. I know the pasta is homemade, but I just prefer pasta that is not quite so heavy. We ended the evening by sharing a piece of Nonna's lemon torta with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was delicious, not too sweet. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be back.

Switched our reservation from 4 to 6 with ease. Sat in a big comfortable booth. Food was delicious. Decor was extremely pleasing to the eye. And the best of all; was the phenomenal, knowledgeable and attentive service from Adil!!

Pizza was alright. Thin crust, but got soggy fast. Ordered the pitchers pizza and the broccoli rabe was half burnt. Avoid the spaghetti each, no flavour, a total disappointment. Honestly looked sad when you see it on the plate and does not even smell like anything when it hit the table. The restaurant is beautiful and clean, but the food is not flavourful or up to par for what it charges. Will not revisit or recommend.

The food was delicious! I had such a fantastic time, and the waitress was extremely friendly and nice. Will come back in the future and will recommend for sure for a visit! Love this place so much!

The environment was good. The wine selection is good. The open kitchen concept is appealing. However, the kitchen staff seems unmotivated. The food was undercooked. Tables are too small so there isn't enough room for the large plates. Service is good. Location is good.

The first time we were here it was great. Wonderful service and food was amazing. We thought we had to bring two of our grandchildren here bc they love pizza so much. Well we drove all the way from coquitlam and it was defiantly not worth it. Service was terrible and the pizza was soggy and tasteless. What a dissapoinment. Will not go back

Went for a birthday meal. Loved being able to sit at the counter watching all of the action with the wood-fired oven. Pizza was fresh and piping hot - we could see ours being cooked! Antipasto platter for two as not bad but priced on the high side - we'd get a different appy next time, maybe a porchetta one, or maybe we'll try the pastas.

Had the Porchetta e Friarelli Pizza and Chitarrine Al Ragù Pasta. Both were great! The pizza was less flavourful than expected but was delicious as well. Pasta had a lot of meat and flavour. It was very filling. Would love to see their pasta menu expand.

I have ordered a pizza “porchetta and friarielli”, I received porchetta and broccoli!!! They put on it the hard stems of broccoli! Price 18$...not really cheap for that!
Basically they tried to cheat me. I have to say that because they didn’t tell me about it, they just expected I couldn’t find out!!!

Once I asked to the waiter, he told me that they have finished friarielli and that actually broccoli and friarielli are the same thing.
I am sorry but that’s not correct!
I am fine with the waiter tho,young and maybe he doesn’t know about it. But he asked to one of the owner.
I saw the scene and he didn’t even had the decency to come to apologize or something.
He was hanging out with his friends.
He just turned,looked at the table and that’s it. Update your menu, or just tell me that you have not friarielli, that is the traditional and necessary product to make this pizza.
I would have order something else.

I felt honestly frustrated and my first thought was “ why should I come in this place and spending my money here?” Especially if you consider that on commercial drive there are hundred of Italian restaurants and pizzeria!

Because I was hungry
I ordered a Margherita
It was good, but you can find a good margherita everywhere..the “special” pizza makes the difference.

Another little thing
They have only pop on tap, not can!
I asked for Diet Coke but pretty sure was something else, maybe I am wrong, but at this point why should I trust?


At the end we tried with tiramisù as well
We were insisting to check on the quality of the service and food!
It was dry and myself and other three people were confident there was not trace of mascarpone but only of cream!


Our waiter tho, a sweet blonde girl, she was so nice with us and embarrassed for that.

Good food although pricey. We spent 125$ With tip for two sharing an appetizer and salad. It is noisy and somewhat hard to hear so take that into account. We might have sat outside but they don’t have an umbrella.

Amazing, legit, napoletena pizza. The crust was to die for. My son (the world's pickiest eater) ate 5 of his 6 slices of Margherita. Toscana salad was fresh and tasty. Wife loves her puttanesca pasta. Service was great. Very friendly. Our good arrived promptly, and water was consistently filled without asking. I would highly recommend this place. My only tiniest complaint was the acoustics make it hard to have conversations at times.

I love this restaurant and the only element they need to improve upon is the acoustics. It was really quite loud in there and it wasn't even full. There are very few soft surfaces and no acoustical ceiling spaces so it is loud. So much so that 4 people can talk and hear one another but we had 8 people and you couldn't hear anyone across from you and more than 1 person down. Everyone at our table agreed that was the only unfortunate thing. Great looking patio addition to the Commercial drive food scene.

My family and I came here for Father’s Day dinner. The staff was great and made us feel comfortable and welcome. The food was delicious! I recommend the pizza’s, they are authentic! The pasta’s were very tasting as well. We would definitely come back!

Great ambience. We came at World Cup day so the crowd was cheerful and fun. The Porchetta pizza was good and don’t forget the Chili oil. Love that this is a local brand and I’ll patronize it again soon.it was a filling lunch before I was off to hosting my open houses so i was satisfied and ready to work after!
