South Block is a North-Carolina inspired BBQ hall and brewery on the edge of Mission, in Calgary. Upstairs you’ll find a large dining room, 20-seat bar, and a year-round indoor/outdoor beer garden. Downstairs hosts our stage, live music hall, and brewerey – where we brew our entire draft lineup from classic staples like our Pilsner, Lager, and IPAs, to our unique seasonal Peach Bourbon Ale and Mango Wheat Ale.

Behind the bar, we run a hand-crafted cocktail program and offer a whiskey list of over 200 varietals, including American, Canadian, Irish, Scottish, and Japanese whiskeys.

However, the biggest draw has to be our slow-smoked barbecue menu. Inspired by the flavours of North Carolina, our team arrives early every morning to smoke our famous brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and more for up to 14 hours.

We really like this restaurant. The food and service was, as always, top notch. They have excellent beers, whiskeys and cocktails too. The noise level I would rate and energizing and fun.

Went here for date night and they definitely didn't disappoint! The service was incredible, super friendly and answered all of our questions about the menu. The brisket is to die for, excellent bark 👏 overall I would definitely recommend this place for a couple or a group ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What an awesome evening!! We booked a table for dinner and they ended up having an amazing band playing so we stayed. What a party! Would definitely go back. Food was great and the server was excellent-friendly and knowledgeable.

Chairs are extremely uncomfortable; no back support on ANY seating unless you’re sitting at the bar. Good drink selection, and pretty quality. Good food.

This was our 2nd trip to South Block, and it was even better than the first time...probably because it was a slower Sunday night compared with a very busy Saturday night the first time. The only complaint was that we were all quite chilly. The day had been warm but a cool breeze had arrived, so we asked to be seated indoors (we had reservations). Our table was indoors, but the entire wall on the main floor was open, which really rendered it to be an outdoor table...but with no heater, and no benefit of any lingering warmth from the sun, and in the back corner we actually caught that chilly breeze. This also meant that the food (that was served VERY quickly and arrived piping hot) also cooled off faster than we could eat it. Still tasted great, though. Will definitely go back!

Brisket was moist and flavorful, chicken wings were divine, blueberry burnt ends (order double as they are amazing). Enjoyed the sides. Dry rub ribs and cornbread I found dry. Overall excellent!!

Outstanding bbq meat. Very much enjoyed the salad options as a lighter and very tasty accompaniment to a meat forward dinner. Fun atmosphere with a great sheltered patio.

Happy with the food, drinks, and service. There were 3 of us and we ordered the brisket, half chicken, brisket Philly sandwich, spicy fries, broccoli salad, and smoked corn and bean salad. We expected leftovers and definitely got them! The half chicken was juicy and the corn and bean salad was my favorite side. Service was slightly slower because it was a busy Saturday night, but still friendly and they brought out the food quickly. It was my dad’s birthday and they brought out the salted caramel cheesecake with a candle, which was delicious and appreciated! I’ll be back :)

Everything was satisfactory with the exception of the limiting information on the food menu. I understand the minimal design and suggest using chillis or fire as a signal for how spicy a meal may be. A friend in our party had to have her sandwich remade bc she couldn't enjoy it due to the spice level. The waitress was understanding and helpful with this but it could have been avoided with a little more menu detail. Another had to pick toppings off of his sandwich to enjoy it bc there was no information on the menu. Yes guests could of course ask but ppl are shy or the restaurant is busy or any number of reasons. Restaurant environment 8/10, food and service 7.5/10, menu design 1/10
