The Sou'Wester Restaurant and Gift Shop began in 1967 as a small five table tearoom at the side of a house at its present location. It has been expanded over the last five decades to a 180-seat restaurant offering traditional Maritime and seafood dishes, and a two-level gift shop with one of the Maritimes largest selections of giftware. Today, more than 50 years later, The Sou'Wester is still run by the family of its founder, Jack Campbell.

The $32 lobster club sandwich (recommended by the server vs. the lobster roll) had at most an 1/8 cup of lobster. You could barely see it let alone taste it. A tourist trap for sure.

Wonderful food and very prompt and friendly service, despite the huge crowds on this perfectly sunny day at Peggy's Cove. We were made to feel like real people instead of simply customers. Our reserved table with a view was perfect. Well done, hostesses, servers, kitchen staff, and manager.

Food was very good but we waited almost an hour for service! It appeared like staff was preparing for a bus to arrive but not very good for those already waiting!

My husband and I ordered Fish and Chips for 16.99, and my mom-in-law ordered a bowl of seafood chowder for $12.99. When our meals arrived, my mom-in-law got a small size of soup in a bowl. It was not much chunky, or plentiful. I noticed our fish and chips were in the same bowl that mom had her soup. The fries are smaller with a side of coleslaw in the bowl and one piece of crispy breaded fish on top of plenty of fries and coleslaw. The taste was good. I'd recommend having the best fish and chips at Grand Banker Bar & Grill. They served generous plates and were so reasonable price! My mom-in-law did enjoy the soup, but the price isn't.

Great location right by the lighthouse at Peggy's Cove. We visited on a warm July afternoon. The restaurant was uncomfortably warm, despite the attached gift shop being comfortable and obviously air conditioned. Our server was amazing - sorry, I didn't catch her name. Joking and friendly with all the customers, always upbeat despite being very busy at the time. My wife had the grilled halibut, which was excellent. The vegetable medley that accompanied it was disappointing. I had a whole lobster which was rather tough and tasteless, unfortunately. The accompanying potato salad was scant and disappointing. Overall, I felt we overpaid for the experience.

Fish and chips, lobster roll was great Halibut was extremely over cooked and dried out couldn’t eat it - only had one bite. And it was very expensive Which would have been fine if it was good

The scenery was the only worth while part of the dinning experience. The restaurant is noisy, food is mediocre and parking is a nightmare.

The service was excellent, waitress was very friendly and efficient. The food was good except for one of our group ordered the lobster roll and fries. The roll was filled with lettuce and a very thin layer of lobster on a bed of fries. She was very disappointed and said that she wouldn't eat there again... The entertainment was excellent, "Pub Night". The general consensus was pricey for the quality and quantity of food.

Very noisy restaurant. Very busy. Waited almost an hour for food. Fish and chips . The fish was surrounded by a very oily batter and in some places the batter was soggy. The halibut we ordered was good but we got fries, not mash for a side as ordered.

The fish and chips were outstanding in taste and value. While the scallops were good they are relatively expensive. Steamed vegetables again outstanding and tremendous value for those who are looking for a fresh side dish. The views and service are second to none but given the number of people and tour groups coming and going it's not a great place for a quiet conversation. You're not there for that though...enjoy the meal and then get back out to where the real action is...Peggy's Cove rocks!

Myself and my girlfriends have had an annual Christmas brunch and gift exchange at the Sou’wester for years. Last year was a sad year as almost everything was locked down and we had to stay in our family bubble. It was a joyous feeling to be sitting at the Sou’wester on a beautiful cold and sunny day in our regular corner, eating a delicious breakfast, coupled with good service, good coffee, laughter and friends. We hope to be able to do our annual Christmas brunch at the Sou’wester for a long time to come. Thank you Sou’wester!

Hi in our party of 5, two of us had fish & chips (1 pc). We both had a problem keeping our food on the 'too small' plates. Also, my fish was quite dry (overdone)...chips were terrific. The whole experience was good i'd say a 4 star Sylvia

It was my husband’s birthday. He ordered the two piece fish and chips. Being from Nova Scotia we’ve eaten a lot of fish and chips. Considering this is a restaurant at one of Nova Scotia’s heritage sites, we expected the highest quality, however his comment is “fair“. I ordered the most expensive entrée(other than a lobster dinner) at $25 for the halibut dinner. Halibut being expensive and not easily come by, I too expected it to be of the highest quality. The fish was over done, mashed potatoes just warm and the boiled vegetables under done. The coleslaw was delicious. We had a second waitress ask us if there was anything we needed, my husband said he would like to have some ketchup. She never brought it. I also noticed she was waiting on another table, and they too reminded her that she had forgotten to bring some thing to their table. Our reservation was for 4:30 PM. It wasn’t busy. We were expecting it to be fairly quiet. However one group that sat in the corner table by the big windows, had a male family member who was too loud. They left, shortly after a father and his two children came in. One of the children was quite loud. I realize the restaurant has no control over noisy patrons. It’s very much a dated diner ambiance. I think it’s time for an interior update/refresh to coincide with the addition of the beautiful observation deck being constructed outside. I was disappointed with our experience in the restaurant. I’ve heard from many people that it was a great restaurant with great food. Being a proud Nova Scotian, I was really expecting and hoping that it would be a positive memorable experience, so we too could “brag“ about the restaurant at Peggy’s Cove. We weren’t bothered by the construction surrounding the restaurant, as we were expecting that. We enjoyed our time outside on the rocks and around the lighthouse.

We had a window table with a great view. We really enjoyed that. The food was ok, I had fish tacos which I quite enjoyed. I wish I could say the same for the scallop burger. It was extremely over cooked, dry, and tasteless. The cole slaw was great! The gingerbread, usually very good, was over cooked as well. Service was good.

Took my girlfriend to Peggy’s Cove for her birthday as we were visiting from Winnipeg. The waitress was very friendly and the food came VERY quickly (fish and chips along with seafood chowder). For desert we got the blueberry pie and told the waitress it was her birthday, she even put a candle in the pie making our experience very special.
