Really enjoyed the fixed menu. Was a little difficult to hear the waiter but otherwise very tasty and positive experience.
Wonderful place to go for an enjoyable evening. Excellent food and great drinks
Partner and I did the prix fixed menu on a Friday night. Food was great, $65 each included two smaller dishes, a main and dessert. We tried out a handful of wines and they were awesome (totalled more than the meal ha!) And our server was super helpful and easy to talk to. Ambiance is very intimate yet modern.
My personal favourite restaurant but our last visit was just above a d beyond!! Best service by Matthew and excellent food by chef !! Can’t wait for the next visit!!
Fantastic food, amazing service! A true gem in Victoria!
It was a great evening! Super elegant and the food was amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves wine!
Relaxed and enjoyable
Our server was AMAZING, he made the experience that much better. The food and ambience was nothing short of spectacular. My boyfriend & I had such a great time. It was our first time there as we were visiting from Vancouver. Definitely looking forward to visiting again when we’re in town next!
Stage is hands down my favourite restaurant in Victoria.
The food and service was exceptional . Matty our server made our night! Definitely recommend!
The perfect date night - great ambiance and delicious food.
Awesome food , great ambiance! Was a very fun girls night!
I would highly recommend Stage! They provided such a memorable dining experience for me and my partner.
Lovely experience with their multi course tasting menu. The food is just so good, as is the service.
Gorgeous, cozy, neighborhood bistro. Warm, welcoming staff, beautiful interior, incredible food and thoughtfully curated wine selection. The restaurant is under new-ish ownership (maybe a almost a year now?) and it has easily become my favorite restaurant in Victoria. They recently opened a patio area and they also have a small grocery store at the front of the restaurant with beautiful wines, craft, beer, Sheringham gins, absinthe, heritage eggs, duck confit (OMG!!), terrine, craft chocolates, homemade jams, pesto and homemade butter (with sage) etc. and it is all beautifully presented.
Stage was the perfect setting for our first dinner out with close friends in a long time. This quaint, friendly restaurant had exceptional service and a local, relaxed yet upscale vibe. The prix fixe menu was a relief as we simply wanted to enjoy our friends, without being encumbered by complex menu choices. The food was outstanding, fresh, generous and, did I mention outstanding? We will definitely be back to Stage very soon.
Amazing gastronomic experience! Exceeded expectations!
Service was top notch. What a great night and experience.
Victoria is lucky to have this establishment. The chef is a truly creative and talented individual. The servers were very friendly, personable, welcoming and knowledgeable.
Well done Stage! Thank you for a truly wonderful experience and evening!
A little noisy, but comfortable. Food, drinks, service, all excellent. Three of us shared various dishes and a bottle of wine and loved everything.
We have been going to Stage for years and love the new menu. The rib eye for two was amazingly delicious and of course, the wine selection is always spectacular
Great place for dinner. The cod was amazing just too salty so was the steak tartare. Excellent service.
Food 10/10 - Ambience 10/10 - Service 10/10. Simply perfect.
The service was great and our drinks were fantastic however the valentines steak dinner was over priced for the sinewy piece of meat I received-it was almost impossible to cut through and I ended up only being able to eat half of the 10oz portion..quite disappointing.
My only complaint is I would like to see more French wines on their wine list. A good fruity French Pinot noir would be nice. Other than that it was awesome.
We had a lovely Valentine’s Day dinner at Stage. Excellent service, delicious meal and the music and ambience were perfect. Thanks!
Loved it. Too noisy at times, can you baffle the sound somehow?
New owner, new cook and an amazingly tasty meal. Looking forward to returning.
This was the first time I went to stage and I was incredibly disappointed. I organized a birthday dinner for a friend of mine which included 7 people total for dining. Our server ignored us for the first 20 minutes we were there, then asked what we wanted abruptly.. when we asked for suggestions on wine, she claimed she didn’t know and didn’t have a preference. It took her 35 minutes from the first time she greeted us, to give two out of seven people water. We had to continuously ask for water refills.
When the drinks came, they were wrong and were not as described by her. She was aggressive with getting us to order, and then when the food came, it wasn’t as she had described, she forgot some of the orders and then made us feel guilty/placed blame on us for her mistakes.
This was by far the worst dining experience I’ve had in Victoria and I’ve lived here my entire life.
I will not be returning nor suggesting this place to anyone.
We like Stage. We try to get there every time we're in Victoria. This was our 4th time, maybe.
It was the annual "Dine Around" event; the place was packed and hot, and the wait staff was very busy.
We chose the $50 3-course option, because it included an appetizer of foie gras, and a main course of hanger steak with duck-fat fries. Both courses were quite good, but here's the thing: if you're going to charge $50 - the high end of the Dine Around scale - people are going to look for flaws. Why were there no vegetables? Sorry, Stage, potatoes don't count as vegetables.
And the wine: if you're going to store it behind the bar, 8 feet above the floor in a warm room, it is going to be served at an unpleasant temperature. Surely the management knows that.
Hey ItsallaboutMe thxs for the feedback we cherish the good & the bad, you're absolutely right wine temp is something all restaurants struggle with. I personally like whites warmer & reds colder than most restaurants serve. I have to admit this is the 1st I am hearing of "an unpleasant temp" but I will take notice going forward. Next time you are in mention to the service team your preference. We might be busy but we still have plenty of tricks to get the wine to the exact temp you prefer.
The food was great and our server was lovely. I will definitely be going again soon.
we did the dine around which was great but we cannot comment on the regular menu. At the dine around we had the $40 dollar menu . the mussels were very tasty and there was a good quantity . the ling cod was also good- not over or undercooked . dessert was apple cake which does not sound exciting but in fact was excellent .
Hi Charlie, Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the $40 dine around menu! We would love to have you back! Our main menu is now back! See you soon!
LOVE this place, we'll be back. Can't wait to try other things on the menu!
Stage has been my go to lately as it’s honest and always delicious. They treat you like a friend and seem to love playing with the classics. Hoping to try their happy hours soon!
Hi, Thanks so much for the positive review. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
The food, service and ambience are always spot on.
We've eaten at Stage in the past and had a wonderful experience. This was not. Dine Around is currently going on in Victoria and my husband and I decided to go to Stage. We chose Stage because we thought the Dine Around option would provide a superior experience and we wanted to support the business in our neighbourhood. Although the ambience was quite lovely, our server was unfamiliar with the set menu being served and the cocktails on special. She twice had to go get more information to answer our questions. We went with the $50 set menu and were disappointed with the quality versus cost. In November, five of us ate for less! The food was so-so, the worst part being the amount of bones in the rabbit gnocchi. We will not be going back.
Dear WinonaW, we're very sorry you did not enjoy your meal. We take pride in what we do and deeply regret that you are offended so deeply by our dine around offering. You are correct that our regular menu is extremely value driven even when compared side by side with the value of dine around so I understand where you are coming from. Thank-you for supporting local and please call or email me to discuss your experience further.
Our food was inedible and the restaurant was VERY loud. The setting itself is quite nice though and the service was professional and attentive. Just unfortunate about the food and I do find the portions to be on the small side given the price.
Hello Alboni this is David the owner of stage & I am very sorry about your experience with our food. I remember your table from this weekend. All I can say is that I am very proud of the food we serve and would love to have you come in on a quieter night during the week and let me buy you dinner. Please contact me at the restaurant.
Our waiter was fantastic (an Australia fellow). It’s a bit noisy so had to speak loudly but other than that, a great experience.
Thanks so much we look forward to seeing you again soon!
One of our favorite places to go in Victoria especially before seeing theatre at the nearby Belfry theatre. We always hope for a seat at the bar because the bartenders are just great to watch with their skillful creations of very yummy cocktails. Food is fresh, creative and beautifully presented.
Hey JoanneE, Thanks for the review! We hope to see you again soon.
The two vegetable dishes I had were EXCELLENT. However, there was very little that was gluten free and vegetarian. And I will say this, in this day and age it is not difficult to keep a loaf of Origin bread in the freezer to offer in place of your spelt bread. It is easy. I know there are not a ton of celiacs, but we travel with wheat eaters, and they won't eat where we can't eat.
Hi SusanK, Thanks so much for the review. We are always looking to improve our menu and offerings. We will be sure to keep this into consideration for the future. Kind regards
Stage is our 'go to' place for great food and superb service.
Our 5th visit to Stage and the menu has changed somewhat.
The addition of the fish head mayo to the Brussel sprouts was interesting. Not bad, but not really necessary either imho. The other dishes were ok, but not great like they used to be
The service and wine was great as always.
My only real problem was that it’s really noisy and I found it difficult to hear my wife over people 5 tables away. Not really the restaurants fault, but kinda off putting.
