Steel Toad Brewing Company Ratings and Reviews
So sad this place has sold. The building is beautiful inside and the menu is delicious. I hope the new ownership focuses on great food items.
Our server made mistakes several times and the food was terrible! I order the nachos, and couldn't finish them. DO NOT ORDER!! My friend ordered the wings, and there was hardly any meat on them. Very little for Gluten-free options and almost nothing for Vegans. Would not come back...
It was a nice evening. The service started off slow. My drinks were average. They ran out of Kahului.
It was our first time there. It was my birthday and said so in the reservation but it was NOT even acknowledged.Table was small and too close to the next so we moved over. Dead in there didnt need to reserve.Calamari was tough, chewy and the worst. Pizza was luke warm and VERY soggy.
Not enough beer choices. Will NOT ever go back again, even though it has great potential.
So, not sure what’s happening at this place .... we’ve been quite a few times and enjoyed it previously (quite a bit actually) but maybe there is new management? The food is still great but the service was “meh” and they called me to make sure we wouldn’t stay too long, as there was another reservation following ours. Not sure why their “management problems” became ours. Too bad, because we had previously quite enjoyed this place, very close to home. But there’s lots to choose from in Vancouver so on we go!
Fun evening in great surrounding. Great server, great food.
Great food and service and a lovely funky building!
The one thing that stood out was the entertainment. They had a 1 man band playing........some kind of techno rock.....every song sounded the same. This guy was an amateur......apparently he plays every saturday night.
Extremely slow service considering several tables around me all empty. Took 20+ min after ordering for my grilled chicken. Smallest chicken breast I've seen at a restaurant. Was about 3 bites. Not worth the $24.
Good place to bring family and friends. Good venue for any occasion including business dinning. Love the food, beer and other beverages just as good.
Came here before a concert for a quick bite - it's typical bar food, average prices and decent service. Nothing to rant or rave about. I would go back if I wanted to have a casual meal and wasn't pressed for time.
We were a little disappointed with the service this time. Server was great. But really it did take over 45 minutes after we ordered food for it to arrive. And we had to constantly wave people down to check in on what was happening
The shrimp/pasta dish was very nicely presented and was served hot. The pasta was quite bland and there was no cheese offered for the pasta.
2 people visiting from Winnipeg were told that we had to come here. We were not disappointed
a much better experience now with the update menu...I like it and as locals we'll be back.
love that it's on opentable and their are usually spots avaiable....with two young kids it's important before walking two blocks to know we can get in.
Great team of people looking after seating and such.
we came a half dozen times or so in the past 2 years and this new menu will bring us back more often.
Prime Sundays looks like a good item to return for as well.
I was unfortunately disappointed by our recent visit.
It all started the moment we arrived. We made a reservation and came about 10 minutes early. Our table was not ready, and there was literally no one at the front of the establishment to greet us. The worst part is, the place was very slow. If they were busy, I could understand, but this was bad. Eventually we were greeted by someone, but then told to sit down and wait, which is confusing since there were sooooo many prepped tables waiting for customers.
Prices were also unfortunate. I understand price increases need to happen, but at these prices, I would expect the quality to match these price points.
The Caesar salad was disappointing, as were the lunch wrap specials. Only one of our dishes out of the 6 shared between us tasted good.
We used to come here often, especially for the pizzas, but this might be the last time we plan on visiting.
Was hubby's birthday, so we popped in for a bite. I had short rib (yum! Very filling) and husband had ribeye (very good). The birthday boy had dessert, peanut butter dish, which he said was good. Pretty good wine list for a brewery!! On our "regular spot" list.
We went for Father's Day dinner. Burgers and prime rib were tasty. Pizzas were terrible- bland &wet.
Ambiance was good but loud. Kid friendly but bar feel.
They were busy but the service was still pretty good.
Father's Day brunch
Great food and service and of course the beer ! Love the building and ambience ! It has become a favourite place for food and drinks !
We went on Friday before the long weekend. It was pretty quiet. We found it a bit over priced and the food took a while to get to house.
We are neighbors and we went there every Friday. Service was great and fast. The whole restaurant staff are friendly and experienced. However, since the management changed, everything went downhill. We sat down at 11:50am and waited for 10 mins but still no service. Than one of the manager come and offered some tap water. Then we ordered the quick lunch menu at about 12:05pm. I saw people come in later then us got their food first. After watching about 10 burger plate came out of the kitchen, our food came at about 12:35pm. My lunch was supposed to be come with green salad but it come with Caesar salad. When we get the bill, they charged $3 for the salad. I didn't confront with them since they wasted so much of my lunch time. It was used to be good but they trashed the place. Btw, management changed almost three months ago. That's not an excuse.
An interesting building with glass wall separating dining from steel brewing area, makes for a creative atmosphere. Can't get more locally brewed than that, with excellent beer. The stout a treasure for sure. Food was good, locally sourced. Worth a visit.
Fun night out. Great live music. Salad was fresh and the Mussels and Fries were delicious
Not for Dinning! More of Drinking hole or Sport Bar ...
Overall a great place. There is one unfriendly bouncer that works there though. He always has a discouraging attitude. This time he told us that although he acknowledges our Open Table reservation, and that he confirms a table is available, that no actual chairs are available for our table.
It had been about a year since we had been to Steel Toad. In spite of several bad reviews, we decided to return with extended family. Overall we had a really nice meal--food was better than expected, service very friendly, although a few items took a bit too long. We were pleasantly surprised with the new menu, chef and relatively new management. The only frustrating thing (which actually made me almost cancel our reservation) was when they called to confirm they said we only had two hours at our table. Now, we have kids and likely wouldn't need more than that, but it was very off-putting and considering they sat us late and food took a while it made me uncomfortable. In the end the upstairs wasn't even full. Regardless, good evening, but telling clients (with advanced reservations) before they even arrive they have a limited window to enjoy their dinner is not good practice. (Of note the manager was very apologetic when I brought it up and explained it was an issue with open table). Either way, needs to be fixed! Thanks for a good night.
15 minutes to get greeted
No quality check on food
Food came and we had no plates or cutlery
Beers were empty and new ones ordered but never came
Had to ask a different server three different times to bring numerous items.
We were celebrating our birthdays. Great food...recommend the pizzas, mussels, chicken wings...pretty much everything we had was good! Great atmosphere and when more people showed up that we didn't expect, we were quickly accommodated by putting two booths together! Great service...highly recommend this place. We'll be back for sure!
The setting is very nice and the service was great.
One of our party had the Cobb salad and it was good. The fish tacos we're over battered and could have had more slaw, you couldn't even see it under the fish. The over battered fish in the fish and chips was not good and its one of there go to dishes.
I would not return g
Website says reservations available for upstairs dining as downstairs bar is first come first served. Wanted a quieter atmosphere for chatting with friends so reserved for upstairs. However, when we arrived we were seated downstairs and were told the upstairs wasn't available. As expected, we found it too loud. Beer selection was good but not exceptional. Some items from internet menu not on their actual menu, which was disappointing. Had fish and chips. Fish was quite oily and I had fish taste coming back up till the next day. Chips were ice cold, but when I told the server she brought me a fresh batch. Likely not go back.
Reserved a table here for 7:15pm, and we were told there was another reservation for our table at 10pm by the server upon ordering so we would have to be done by then. I was a bit disappointed by that, but the server did try to expedite our orders. It's a good place to go with a group as they do have long tables. The Kermode West Coast IPA was great. Loud live music could have been turned down just a notch to make conversation easier.
I've actually had to leave this review on the yelp page as well.
I had one of the worst food experiences here last night. So disappointing.
I visited Steel Toad last year with a group of friends and had a nice time. The live music was great, the food good and the service prompt and friendly.
Last night was a different story.
Our server was nice. Friendly enough and very attentive so I felt like everything was looked after. The problem was the food. I guess Monday's are when establishments have their least experienced chefs on hand, but still.
I started with an order of muscles which arrived cold. :( no biggie, some of them had a little warmth left. The awful part was halfway down they we no longer cooked at all. That's right, raw muscles. Ew.
Then the pad Thai. Tasty enough except that it felt like you had just eaten a jalapeño pepper and no where on their menu did it reference that the dish was spicy nor was it conveyed when ordered.
It was so much that i actually had to send the dish back (Those that know me know I NEVER send things back)
My replacement dish was the Cobb salad. My lettuce was limp and brown :(
I took it to go because I didn't want to suffer through it at the table.
This is a great place for a good beer, don't have high hopes for the food though.
We met friends for supper on a Sunday night. Most of us had the roast beef dinner which was great and an excellent value. Would definitely go back.
Had a good time.
Overall it was fine. However the hostess was slow and sat us at a terrible table in a half empty restaurant. The manager came and took our menus when we had just ordered appetizers, when we asked him to leave them he said he would only leave one. Two menu items we ordered were not available and one cocktail highlighted on the menu was also unavailable. The wait-staff were nice and tried hard. It was not terrible but I am not rushing to go back.
Steel Toad is a nice spot, however, very loud when full and busy. Food was quite good and the drink and craft beer list is quite good. ST is a great pub environment but less of a dinner place.
It was busy but when you build a large restaurant with that many seats - you should be able to handle the load.
Food was very slow and did not come out together (2 of the 5 in our party had to wait 10 mins for their meals)
Food was average at best !
Got the bill and we had been billed for an extra glass of wine - told waitress and she said she would fix and came back two mins later to say her manager said it is too much of a hassle to remove and offered a coupon for a free beer next time (no thanks - that would mean we need to go back)
Very space !!!
If you just want a beer and No Food or service - a good place
The first thing we noticed was how loud the football game was, it was deafening. We asked three times for the host to lower the volume. The server was slow to respond and attend our table. When she was there we couldn't hear her over the game. Food portions were on the small side compared to other similar nearby venues for the same price point. Appetizer was delivered long after mains were delivered and eaten. They took the charge off the bill. Speaking of which the bill was incorrect and took a few times to get corrected. Manager was accommodating but the fact he had to attend our table three times tells you that more training is needed for staff.
I might try again but it will be awhile. They do deserve a second chance though in my opinion, as there is potential here.
