Food was pretty good but way too expensive. I had a basically a matzo ball soup and it was $14!! Didnt know until I got it that it actually was like that 😳
A wonderful experience! Beautiful, historic building, amazing food, excellent service. Will be back!
Amazing dinner and will definitely be back! The 18 hour brisket was melt-in-your-mouth fantastic.
Such a lovely meal at the Stewart House. The ambiance of the restaurant was extremely charming and cozy. The food was phenomenal and the service was excellent. We’ll definitely be coming back!
We stayed at the hotel for the weekend, and had dinner there twice…it was that good! We even took some Irish soda bread home with us. Delicious!
I have bern to the River Pavilion their seasonal riverfront outdoor dining spot which I love. That spot is more casual fare with a full bar and great views of the Hudson! For my birthday I decided to try their indoor restaurant. It is so beautifully designed with a turn of the century look, lovely art and murals. The service is very welcoming and warm. The menu is a more elevated farm to table selection and everyone absolutely loved their meals. A few people enjoyed the discounted (Thursday night deal) on burgers meat and Impossible Burger. A few had fish and chips with seared peas that was very traditional in the English style and delicious. Others enjoyed dishes that were more creative culinary delights! I had perhaps one of the more scrumptious cocktails ever... featuring vodka and passion fruit!! Will definitely be making Stewart House a new favorite destination for dinners both special occasions and for great nights out! Highly recommend!!!
One night the food was absolutely amazing, another - a little bit too salty for my taste. Overall enjoyed coming here. Athens, NY don’t offer any other dinner options but 1883 Tavern is worth making a trip.
The food was delicious, the setting is beautiful and the service was superb. We couldn’t have been happier with the experience.
Fantastic meal and wonderful, warm and prompt service, as always! We had the radicchio Ceasar and the pepita and dried cherry salad with 'nooch' dressing, and also the roasted radish and mushroom rice dish. We usually eat meat but we were trying to see what the veggie options were - and they were SO GOOD!
The atmosphere was romantic and elegant, with soft lighting and a comfortable banquette. My husband and I were celebrating our 10th Anniversary, and we were greeted by our server with a thoughtful offer of champagne. The meal was delicious. I had crispy skin salmon which was cooked perfectly, and my husband very much enjoyed his cavatelli pasta with sausage. The warm burrata appetizer was especially delicious with its accompanying crostini. It was a memorable meal and we look forward to dining there again.
Beautiful location near the water, with a great waterfront area. On a rainy night, ate inside and though pretty quiet due to the weather, the service, cooking and care were top notch all the way! Helen, our server was friendly, thoughtful and perfect service throughout the meal. A pleasure to go here for dinner.
Great food, cocktails, interiors, and staff! 5 star across the board!
The restaurant is in a beautiful historic building and thoughtfully renovated. The interior is very elegant. The food was outstanding. The salad I had—“little gems”— was hands down the best salad I’ve ever eaten. A must eat if you are up in the Hudson, NY area.
A wonderful evening. Salmon was the best - very generous portions and great service and ambiance!
All great except music choice in the dining room- really loud blues guitar on a beautiful Sun afternoon. It felt a little teenage boys’ dorm room circa 1974 instead of matching the loveliness of everything else. No big deal, you asked!
The Stewart House just re-opened after closing for the winter and the Covid-19 pandemic. We were glad to have it back. The food is excellent and innovative, and the decor of the historic hotel tavern and restaurant has been beautifully restored. It's a great choice for a special night out.
They also have a take-out and pantry menu.
All the food was delicious
Sunday roast the best, generous portion, including the wine.
Perfect spot for Valentines Day dinner!
Diner was fantastic. Drinks were tasty. Service was great. So nice to have a “classy” night out close to home! Thanks for making Valentine’s Day extra special!
The chef is great. It is wonderful to see the SH returning to levels of excellence that it was known for in the past. Thank you Lon and Lois!
The food was very good and the building is a very interesting, old hotel. Overall, a great experience.
Made online reservation for four adults; never able to speak with staff on phone. The online restaurant photos were EXTREMELY misleading. NO indication there was a private party in the restaurant and that our table would be at an outdoor "picnic area". While the drinks were acceptable, the food was marginal. Kids stacking plastic drink cups that fell on the ground and were picked up by "parents" and placed back in the holders leads to questionable cleanliness. Anyone planning on visiting this facility should get a solid commitment regarding what is actually available.
The menu has really gotten limited, especially over the summer. I wish they had more selections or new options. There are several tweaks on old favorites (like the steak, which is good but gets old for return customers). More options (not hot dogs that were added for the summer) would be really appreciated. Also, I brought my daughter to eat there and the server would not have any changes made AT ALL for any of the dishes. That was rather disappointing. Although the food remains tasty, with my last experience there wasn't great and have been dining there regularly for almost a year. Not sure I want to go back until the menu is changed/updated.
This was a VERY disappointing experience for my husband and I. The SH web site says they have two eating venues, one indoors and one outdoors. I made the Open Table Reservation for 7:45 and then called the hotel/restaurant to confirm that they were open (because it was the fourth of July). The woman who answered the office telephone said, yes, they were open and my reservation would be fine.
When we got to the venue, there was a park-like setting in front of the hotel (VERY POORLY marked) and there was a band playing rock music, several people playing a lawn game, an active outdoor open air bar and a group of tables towards the river, which I am assuming was the hotel "restaurant".
We knew we wanted to eat in the Tavern indoors, so left this venue to find that the Stewart Hotel was LOCKED. A very nice woman was about to enter the hotel and asked if she could help us. She said the restaurant indoors was closed because it was "seasonal" and that they served food outside only. The park location was not the cozy, historical ambiance we were seeking.
We drove almost an hour to this venue because of their very attractive restaurant description on their web site. So, beware potential diners...make sure to find out where u will be seated. Definitely not a pleasant outdoor dinner dining experience. No one wants a nice meal while a band is blasting Beatles favorites and people are playing games in what looked like a public park.
This is the first negative review I have ever shared on Open Table.
Ate in the River Grill in late June in a Saturday night. Service was very slow but this is not unusual in this area. Food was very good but the River Grill could really use a few more menu items. It’s also a little pricey for what you get. Although some of the outdoor furniture is a little beat up it also is in a great spot in the river and the outdoor bar has a great look. I think it is a place to go more for drinks than dinner.
Great ambience, great people and really cool chef that we got to meet and talk with about his creative and delicious offerings
Very good food
We will be back
