Sunset Beach is located in Shelter Island Heights, where guests can enjoy the summer-time flavors of Italy and the French Riviera. Both lunch and dinner are served in either the comfortable dining area or the open-air pavilion. Every ingredient is seasonal and sourced from local day boat fishermen and organic farmers who work with Sunset Beach to provide a delicious meal to vacationing diners. Guests love the pasta with baby scampi, rack of lamb, vegetarian tagine and fresh whole fish. The restaurant was overbooked and we were seated in the unappealing ground floor room used for hotel breakfasts. The service from the staff and the kitchen was abominable. We waited over an hour to be served our entrees and then left because they were nowhere in sight. Too bad because we had enjoyed the experience, on the upper deck, in the past

The main clientele are "beautiful people" that come from huge yachts. If you're not one of them don't expect any attention or service. We made a reservation 3 weeks or more in advance and were offered a table by the kitchen door. Once we complained we were told that everything else was not available and we had to wait to be seated in the "cafe" section with other exiles not deemed "beautiful enough".

Food is good but not great. Skip the entrees and have a few apps and cocktails and enjoy the view!

It just wouldn't be summer if I didn't pay at least one visit to this Shelter Island staple. Each year the chef reinvents some basic item into a melt in your mouth affair. This year it's the straciatella with asparagus. While burrata is on everyone else's menu everywhere, this is a scrumptious variation on the trend finished with a lemon zest that makes it sing. The mussels are always flavorful as is pretty much everything on the menu. We always share at least 3 or 4 items like the cevice that was so amazing fresh we tried to take our time and savor every bite. Make a reservation in advance soon. They roll up and out on Labor Day.

I frequent many NYC Open Table Restaurants. I spend many summers in the Hamptons and had heard about Sunset Beach . I had been hoping to get there For several summers and was looking forward to finally going there. I was expecting an amazing delicious upscale dining experience. The food was basic expensive with a limited menu and they did not have the "Fish of the day". The waitress was matter of fact bordering on unfriendly and barely listened to our order or check on us during the meal. Seemed like she was doing us a favor! We got asked if we wanted a refill of coffee while we paid our check . The setting and view were lovely and the bar area was nice so that the experience was not a complete wash. I might go back for a drink and the view.

Went for lunch around 3 pm. Service was surprisingly good considering most places in the Hamptons get so crazy good service is hard to find. Food was also tasting. Lots of great seafood options.
