Sur Lie Ottawa
Sur-lie has a casual and warm dining room, inviting wine bar and hidden garden patio which are great for celebrating special occasions, business meetings and socializing.
Sur Lie is a gem on Murray street. Wonderful food, service and ambiance. All at a reasonable price. Even better if you attend in off peak hours on Sunday and almost have the place to yourselves. Brunch is extraordinary and the coffee is wonderful.
The place is really nice, and the service was excellent. Food wasn't bad but we expected higher quality for the price, the quantity given for duck confit wasn't enough, the fries that go with the steak were overcooked, maybe because the oil used wasn't recent. We also expected to listen to french music at the restaurant, since they serve french cuisine.
The food really good, nice portion. The service is professional, nice romantic ambiance. A little expensive but totally worth it.
Overall everything was good with the exception of one of oysters was really bad (I.e bad smell and left a horrible after taste). That said, I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.
Great little bistro and very friendly staff. Awesome food.
Ordered the blind tasting menu. Each course was delicious but they were all heavy, fatty, and salty. Heavy, fatty and salty are fine but need to be balanced with a lighter fair to be enjoyable. Overall delicious just not balanced.
It was good, but not outstanding. I was mostly disappointed by my steak which was very pale and not very flavorful. The only reason I wouldn't recommend it is because there are other restaurants in the city I would recommend over this one. I tend to have pretty high standards though; the rest of our party seemed pleased with everything.
Once again great couple night out food was awesome service was great and every time we go there is a great time. Can’t wait for next time
Great food, good value and quality. Service was fine but could be better.
A foodie paradise. Everything tastes as amazing as it looks. Highly recommend!
Outstanding, innovative dishes, served in a relaxed but professinal manner
As previous encounters at Sur Lie, my husband and I are still impressed with the attentive and accommodating staff. The food is always to our expectations. I would certainly anybody to experience your hospitality, professionalism and good cuisine. Thank you for providing us with a pleasant evening'=.
Very good service and VERY good food. The Veal Shank WAS INSANELY GOOD :)
The food and service were impeccable. The menu delighted and it was difficult to narrow the choice for our meal given the wonderful variety available. The suggested wine pairings were very good and I would have no problem asking for suggestions. The server was well informed on the menu and the wine list. The atmosphere was attentive but not intrusive. We had a delightful evening enhanced by the continuous dancing of our taste buds. This restaurant is a real gem...well prepared food that is inventive and yet familiar. Definitely a must try if anyone is visiting Ottawa.
Enjoyed a very nice dinner at this very, very pleasant restaurant, just after Christmas.
Service was excellent, attentive and knowledgeable.
Appetizers and Entrees were great, nicely presented and full of flavour.
The wine selection was excellent, with lots of variety available.
Overall, we were very pleased with our experience!
We would recommend this restaurant for very well prepared, quality food, excellent service and the pleasant ambience.
Excellent meal and wonderful ambiance! Thoroughly enjoyable!
The food was excellent and we enjoyed our dinner a lot. The first course and dessert were delicious. The main, a duck confit, was good but the skin of the duck held quite a bit of fat which made the whole dish a bit too fat. Otherwise everything was perfect. I will return.
Excellent food, menu variety & attentive service. Highly recommended.
We had terrible service at this restaurant. We sat on the bar side and while we enjoyed the ambiance, I feel that we were often overlooked. It was not a busy night but we have to wait for service constantly. finally, after having ordered the Lamb Shank, I was given the Duck Confit. The food was delicious, but it was hard to enjoy much with such terrible service and mistakes.
We were seated promptly, water was poured and we were invited to order a drink. We began with sparkling wine. I had the rose and my wife the cava - both as expected - very nice. I began with Foie Gras with a Sauterne. It was absolutely delicious - worth returning for in itself. My wife began with the pasta which was delicious if not a little large as an appetizer. My wife continued with the salmon which was perfectly prepared. I followed with the Celeriac steak which I thoroughly enjoyed. There was so much more on the menu that we wish to try. We will be back. It was a lovely Xmas-eve lunch. Thank you so much.
As always, impeccable service and outstanding cuisine.
Amazing food and service. We celebrated my wife’s birthday at the restaurant and she was very impressed.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, truly an Ottawa gem!
The food was good as always! I have been for dinner twice but today I decided to go for brunch with the bff. I was pretty surprised at how lousy the service was. Our server didn’t bother to check in with us and didn’t ask how the food was at the end of our meal. She was very dry and unwelcoming. I was unhappy and my experience wasn’t great. I had to try and catch her attention twice. I’m usually a generous tipper but I couldn’t help and give her a lousy tip just like her service.
The best part of the evening was our server Shady. He was welcoming, knowledgeable and paired our food with an excellent bottle of wine. Everyone except for me ordered their meals off the menu and all agreed that the food was good. I did the 4 course blind tasting and it was excellent! I strongly recommend trying it. I hate lamb and duck; I had both with the blind tasting and they were absolutely delicious!!! What a great experience. Thank you Shady for taking care of us.
Great meal - hubby got the tasting menu and I got 2 dishes - we shared and loved all!
Also reasonably priced wine flights for tasting.
Wait staff was excellent
You need to change your coffee selection. Our meal was one of the best I've had in Ottawa however the coffee was horrible. May I suggest Little Victories Coffee? They roast their beans here in Ottawa and it is always fresh.
We tend to only visit on special occasions, but as always the food and service were excellent. The owner, Neil, is also very knowledgeable about wines.
Everything was great. I enjoyed myself and had a fabulous night.
brought out of towners from Boston--much impressed. Servers just perfect on how/when to serve and clear
Date night, it was perfect. Great food and service.
The food was very very good, but the menu advertised was not what was offered. It was also very busy as it was a Saturday night and felt a little crowded. My husband said the filet was the best steak he has ever eaten! The apple dessert was incredible! Worth another trip.
The food was good but the service was not very good. For a meal that cost over $400 for three people with a tip of 15% (I usually give 20% but I gave 15% even though that waitress did not deserve it because I assumed that the tip would be shared with the bar and kitchen employees so I didn't want them to be penalised for her awful service). We took the Discovery menu with the wine pairings. We were there to celebrate my son's 39th birthday. The first plate arrived in a rush and I felt rushed throughout the meal (and I was told by my son and girlfriend after the meal that they felt the same way). The wines were served is a rush where it would have been nice to be able to discuss them - the Pinot Noir was so good but I don't even know the name of the wine. At the end, she dropped a glass of a dessert wine on my son's side. The glass broke and the liquid went all over the place. My son asked me to taste his glass of water at some point but it did not taste like water because the dessert wine ended up in his glass - broken glass ended up in his glass as well probably which could have caused an emergency called if some of that glass ended up in his mouth/throat. It doesn't end there, she served the desert in front of my son saying I think that it is his birthday... so I said but what are we supposed to eat for dessert? Oh she said, the dessert is for everyone so she took the plate and placed it in the center of the table for us to share. When you pay almost $70 dollars for a meal you expect a dessert. My son could not take it anymore so he decided to go talk to the manager even though I didn't want him to and I am glad that he did because that awful service needed to be exposed. On the good side, the manager was very kind and considerate. He offered us three $50 gift certificates. But I am so angry that I might take legal action against the restaurant because that broken glass could have caused serious injuries to my son.
Très bon mais un peu decu par le foie gras en entrée. Celui-ci manquait un peu de gout.
Le reste du repas était excellent.
Cool vibe, great service, food with flair & well thought out taste.
Brilliant new Ottawa French-cuisine restaurant! The service was decidedly not warm and welcoming (were they trying to replicate Paris in this way???), but the food and ambiance were excellent. We'll go back.
Excellent experience with the discovery menu....
The food was exceptional and the service was good, not great. We were never asked if we were enjoying our meals and if everything was fine. A small gesture but one that makes you feel that your evening is being taken care of in a fine dining restaurant such as this one. That being said, we enjoyed every morsel!
What a delightful experience dining at Sur Lie! The owner, Neil, and all the staff were gracious, friendly, professional. The food was expertly prepared---creative and exciting without fussiness or fad. Local and regional ingredients. And the atmosphere was warm and convivial, perfect for conversation. The next time we head to Ottawa, Sur Lie will be the first reservation we make.
