Sur Lie Ottawa
Great food. The burrata was the only thing that missed the spot a little bit. One of the nicer patios in Ottawa. Servers were attentive.
We went on a Sunday night for dinner and it was fabulous. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. I would highly recommend the Charcuterie & Cheese as a starter and the Duck Confit as the main. We will definitely be returning.
Une super de belles soirée, service impecable, belle connaissances de leur produits ainsi que leur vins.
Des vins de l intario (pinot noir) excellent, belles découverte.
Bravo, vous avez une bonne recette.
Cheers, Monica et Martin
Provide correct information to your customers on the wine and wifi please.
Was great thankyou
Food & Drink was delicious - unfortunately it took over an hour to get any appetizers, and we were starving and past hour 2 before dinner finally showed.
Restaurant was no where near busy enough to justify how slow the service was.
Biggest recommendation I could give: Don't go hungry
Cocktails, food and service were excellent. Will absolutely be coming back.
This restaurant is located near the corner of Dalhousie on Murray St. and is a gem. We enjoyed one of the best dinners we had on our recent visit to Ottawa. We always stay in the Byward Market area but a lot of the restaurants are pub-like, noisy and packed. This one is not. We ate inside (although they have outside dining) in the lovely dining room. This is a fine restaurant with carefully and creatively prepared food. We made inquiries about one of the dishes and the chef came out and was very informative.
This is our third visit. Food, ambiance and server all very good. But service was painfully slow -- we waited an hour and a half. We might go back once more but if speed of service does not materially improve ......
The food was excellent as usual and the patio, also as usual, was agreeable. However, I was dining with an old friend whom I had not seen for a year. There was no mention of needing the table for a second setting and the patio was never full; nor was there any mention on a time before which on had to leave. We arrived at 7pm and left, along with another table, at 11pm. The server wanted to know about dessert when we weren’t nearly finished our wine. She came back a second time before we had finished wine and I finally told her that we would let her know when to come for a dessert order. For dessert we just ordered ice cream which didn’t take long to eat but the server returned with the cheque before we asked. As we needed separate checks she had to come back again.
I certainly recommend the food as I have never had a bad dish there, but when one is spending in excess of $100 a person one does not liked to be rushed. I have no problem with a restaurant saying in advance that the first setting ends at a specific time, if I am informed of this before I make the reservation.
The setting the ambiance and the food was good for the most part. There were a few vegan people with the group and the food option for them lacked somewhat. The cauliflower was not cooked enough, there was no or minimal protein with this meal and the flavour was lacking. (sauce too watery) Rebecca was our server and her service was remarkable. Her attentiveness to our needs turned our experience from good to outstanding.
Great staff, knowledgeable and friendly. Restaurant is very accommodating for any dietary need, preferences and likes. Great outdoor patio at the back, nice summer evening outing
Service was amazing. Decor and ambience was excellent (definitely visit the back patio). Very good quality oysters, steak could have been done a bit better, but overall very very satisfied.
Sur Li was an absolutely exceptional experience. The food was delicious, creative and beautifully presented. The service was some of the best service I have ever received! Attentive enough with great recommendations but not overbearing. I work in the service industry and I am rarely blown away by any experience but I can not say enough about the excellent service! As a bonus on our way out a gentleman from the kitchen asked how our dining experience was and thanked us for coming in...that never happens! How thoughtful!! Highly recommend an evening out at Sur Li!
Sur Lie hands down has Ottawa’s loveliest back patio. It’s private, romantic and the attention to detail including the lighting, variety of bench, high top, large and intimate seating makes it perfect for dinner with a partner, large family or girls night out. The food is inventive and delicious. I will say, some of the dishes are a tad on the pricey side. But when the demand goes up and this restaurant gets better known maybe prices will come down. It would be nice to have more moderately priced options on the menu.
We decided to try the place to celebrate our anniversary. It was a perfect choice starting with the pretty outdoor setting throughout excellent food and service. We will be returning.
I never go to the same restaurant twice in less than a week. This time I did.
It’s that good.
Scallop dish overpriced and not the best flavour. A bit of shaved fennel and three scallops on a bland tasting purée not really worth the 32$ price tag. Rest of food was ok for price but a bit underwhelming some definite room for improvement.
Thank you for your feedback, we were disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your food experience during your visit with us. We typically plate 4-5 of our sustainably sourced scallops (depending on the size) per serving at the $32 price tag. We base all of pricing on fair operating/ food costs. While, we again apologize you didn't feel the value in your plate, we do try our absolute best to make our guests happy including fair pricing. We would love further feedback: info@surlierestaurant
Fabulous. Period. Just fabulous.
Beautiful patio and they let us reserve a table outside
Great spot, nice setting, great value, I will be back for sure!
The owner screwed up our order and my appetizer arrived with my wife's entree. I then had a long wait for my entree. He did apologize and ended up waiving the bill, but it was my wife's birthday and it put a damper on the whole evening.
Dear David, My apologies for your unsavoury experience. We have always enjoyed seeing you and your wife! I was disappointed with how the birthday dinner unfolded. Unfortunately misunderstandings can happen despite good intent. While I know I may get to host you again I was happy that I was able to offer a gesture night of. I wish you all the best!
Fantastic food, wine, and ambience- this is my new go-to place in Ottawa. Thank you for a great experience.
Food mediocre but patio dining has a nice ambiance
Amazing meal. Great service. Highly recommended.
Another terrific meal. Four times in 16 months and every experience has been spot on, food, service and pacing.
Delicious food. Amazing wine list. Definitely will go back.
Excellent evening celebrating our daughter's birthday!
Great waiter and amazing food! We sat on the patio. There was a heater so it wasn’t cold. What an amazing time
Went there for our anniversary. A little off the main Market drag, so a little less traffic in front. Great atmosphere, warm, relaxing tones, friendly staff. Food was really good. I had Steelhead trout in sausage broth - service said it sounds odd but is great, and she was completely right! Really nice evening.
Booked half an hour before arriving and table was set for one - nice welcome touch when dining alone. Excellent service, chatty without overkill, seasonal menu which was limited to about 8 dishes per course - enough choice without being complex and included market items, wine list was international and included a limited choice of Canadian wines but these were very pleasant, food was well presented and there was an excellent chessboard to finish. Final bill was reasonable and I would definitely recommend.
Great food and great service. Will definitely be back.
We had a delightful evening at Sue Lie. The most beautiful and fresh dishes that were innovatively presented. We will be back. A real find in Ottawa. Excellent value as well.
Very attentive and courteous service. Confit de canard/duck confit and parings (creamed polenta and honey roasted parsnips) were absolutely scrumptious! Chocolate dome and pecan brittle were just the right combination of sweet and salty to finish off a meal which was of excellent value for price. Small suggestion to improve ambiance: maybe play softer lounge/jazz/etc music rather than pop/rock. Will definitely return. Great find in the By Market! :)
Great place for foodies or a business meeting. The service was great and the food spectacular. We had the Chateaubriand and it was simply spectacular! A great spot in Ottawa that I will definitely be back too!
We had the tuna carpaccio, duck confit, sweetbreads, New York strip and topped it off with maple creme brûlée. Everything was excellent and the service was exceptional.
The food was very good but service was inattentive, unprofessional and not really what one would expect of a french bistro. There were two waiters and a water guy, this last one was the most attentive. The waiters just had no flow, no posture and no idea you should visit the table if food is taking longer than expected between plates. Out bread and butter tray sat dirty on the table for 35 minutes before I spoke to the manager. Then, they did pay more attention, but the restaurant clearly does not train their waiters to flow in the room and around the tables in a manner that should be the standard of this type of restaurant. This is where Ottawa falls short in the service area. They should take their waiters to L'Express in Montreal to observe the service. Food was well presented and good.
I took my wife and 3 year old daughter for Their Mother’s Day brunch.
The service was top notch, the food was top notch and the place was very clean and comfortable. The noise level was very moderate - the restaurant was packed with fellow brunchers but it wasn’t overwhelmingly loud.
The Eggs Benedict with Lobster was amazing. This is a brunch food that is very much out of my comfort zone but I decided to try it out - it was well worth it. Wifey had the same thing and enjoyed every bite! For my daughter we got a Gratin Poutine - I didn’t know what to expect - it tastes great to my wife and I but for my daughter, totally lost on her taste buds. Our server observed and recognized that baby girl wasn’t really eating much of the poutine and brought us an extra plate of bread and butter for her. To me that level of attentiveness really made this brunch better.
The price of brunch for the 3 of us came up to around $85 with tax and tip for two Benny’s, a glass of OJ and the gratin poutine.
My girlfriend and I wanted a place for a nice meal, good ambience and service and not rushed and Sur Lie Certainly met and exceeded our expectations! Will defenitelt be back!
The charcuterie board was somewhat pedestrian, but the rest of the food was excellent (especially the Gnocchi) .
