We had an amazing time at Surf Shack. The service was the best that we’ve had on the island and the sunset views are unbeatable. Great casual environment right by the beach. We will be going back every time we’re in Hawaii!

We had a great meal at the Surf Shack. The Caesar with Lobster was amazing as were the ribs. The only drawback was it rained just as our S’mores were delivered and we could not toast them.

Our first time going to this new spot. We really liked it! It’s right next to the beach so the views are fantastic. The staff was attentive and helpful. It’s more of an elegant casual experience. You sit at picnic tables or lounging chairs. There is corn hole and make your own s’mores. The dishes are small and are designed for sharing so plan for that. Allows you to try more which is fun!! Everything we ordered was delicious. Don’t miss the sticky ribs or the Japanese sweet potato. We almost didn’t order the potato but it was so good that we ordered a second one.

Too pricey. Almost as pricey as Halani but you eat on picnic tables. Ridiculously small portions for the price. Larger portions or lower prices needed to balanced the value proposition with Halani. For now, I would Halani over surf shack every day.

Everything about this experience was perfect! We were not sure about booking here because of the few reviews but we are so glad we did! We learned this is a relatively new option at Mauna Lani. You can see my photos - the setting is at the beach, very casual, a cool/hip relaxed vibe of higher end menu served tapas style. There are about 10 picnic tables here all facing the sunset which makes it a truly magical experience. I learned from our server that in December 2022 the hotel acquired a food truck (kitchen) parked next to the surf shack and they have experimented with other menus but this one seems to be working very well. Having not been to Mauna Lani since our honeymoon in 1991, the beauty of this property never disappoints - highly recommend! Don’t miss this amazing place. See menu in my photos- We had the seared prime strip loin (excellent) , sticky ribs were insane fall off the bone- even the accompanying onion ring was perfect, vegetable summer rolls (fresh rolls) were excellent and the daily crudo raw fish was also amazing. If you are looking for an incredible sunset, great food, and a totally casual vibe, this is a great choice and we will be back again during our trip even though we were not staying at Mauna Lani ( BTW, they offer 3 hour free parking if you eat there and bring your rental car).

What a delightful surprise! Simply the best meal, service and ambiance we have enjoyed all week! It was like a beach Hallmark movie. So much so that we were going back again today, but it is raining buckets outside! Cant recommend the Surf Shack highly enough!

The waiter comped us a glass of champagne to celebrate our son’s birthday. The service was friendly, and accommodating. Great destination for informal, sunset viewing, and small plates. We ordered a bottle of Patz and Hall Chardonnay. It was presented with the cork opened and stuck in the bottle, and did not offer a taste, it was a 2018, a little late for my tastes in Chardonnays. Might have requested something else had I been given the opportunity.
