Our first visit, on a quiet Wednesday at 6:45 PM - made the reservation while next door at Regions and deciding to have dinner out. The food is delicious (I can recommend the Red Dragon Roll) and the sushi is reasonably priced. We will go back for sure.
Sushi Kosho features an interesting menu, offering precious little explanation of the Japanese-named items (except for the maki rolls). Also, many items on the menu were not available on the night we went there; the list of them was so long the server had to consult notes to name them all. The fare itself is consistently delicious and decorously presented. Only one dessert choice was available. I wonder whether the factory decor, the absence of menu selections, and the inexperienced servers, should warrant the highest prices (for such fare) in the County.
Wonder from beginning to end, thanks so much for a lovely meal and service!!
The food was original and very good quality. The service was welcoming and friendly, despite it being a very busy night and we were close to closing time.
Really great food with some unexpectedly good staples too. Highly recommend for quality and price.
Love our local sushi bar. Had difficulty using our Open Table Rewards card, though, as server didn't know how to use it, so we couldn't apply the credit to our check. Food was good; atmosphere quiet; servers friendly and prompt.
Outstanding Food and Service. The fish is top notch.
Some of the best sushi dishes I have ever had. Casual location in the Barlow. All around a great spot.
We usually have sashimi and sushi but it was cold out so this time we ordered the wild mushroom salad and wagyu short ribs. The mushrooms were mushroomy flavorful and the dressing was perfect. Everything in the wagyu short ribs dish is delicious on its own; mushrooms, crispy potatoes - like no others, wagyu beef - a refined texture and cooked to perfection and a Zin that was perfect with the beef. We've eaten just about everything on the menu at one time or another. We have not been disappointed yet.
Excellent Sushi and other dishes for family members who cannot do sushi.
Superb food quality combined with innovative flavors…don’t miss the blackened edamame and other fun twists on sushi. ,
Service was atypically chaotic which diminished the overall experience. Food was pretty good as usual.
Excellent food : )
Awesome food as usual
Favorite local hangout
Special dinner with old friends. Fresh and deliciously prepared food. Outdoor dining available is a plus during COVID but did mean our soup didn’t stay hot and we got cold.
Ate at a table, nice servers, ordered from menu. If owner (Jake) had been there (his night off), would have eaten at sushi bar and let him choose ("omakase"). Sushi bar may not be available due to Covid restrictions.
Even so, clearly the best sushi in the North Bay. Pricey for everyday, but definitely more than worth it for the occasional splurge.
It's a large open room that doesn't feel very cozy. The sushi chefs are all Hispanic, so the place doesn't seem authentic.
Portions are small. Our group of 3 each ordered a miso soup ($6) plus 3 additional appetizers (trumpet mushrooms $7, seaweed salad $11, Japanese eggplant $8). In addition, I ordered an uni sushi ($15), machi-bon ($13) and Korean Poke bowl ($16), and I was just barely full. Yeah, I'm 5'4" and weigh 116 lbs, so what's up with that?
Good service. Great menu. Calimari was tough/rubbery. Will definitely return.
Masks not worn by people walking past tables in the seating area. No sign for masks to be worn. Thru traffic should go around that area, not be able to pass through.
Covid is still out there.
Had a great meal. Service was quick and friendly. Definitely would be my go to place for Sushi!
Looooved this food. Gorgeous preparations. Lots of choices and all menu items were approachable And unique. Thank you!
We had a 5:15 reservation and there were no other customers when we arrived. Our food came out slowly and my spider roll (one of the three things we ordered) came out almost 1/2 hour after the other two dishes. The food was okay (not great) and the wait created a disjointed and aggravating meal. Don't think we'll go back anytime soon.
Food was not great and overpriced. A great place to eat outside though!
The only negative thing about our experience was the ONE employee, behind the sushi bar preparing food, with his mask around his chin. Everyone else was masked except while sitting at a table. It just seemed a little arrogant and outright rude.
the California stuck together ;-(
but everything else was superb!
Fantastic sushi and sake menu in fab Sebastopol Barlow
Attentive service, superior quality fish and great apps.
Virtually empty inside dining, yet my hostess wanted to seat me within 6ft. of the front door and host station. Was told that there was no patio dining, even though the patio was less than 50% occupied. I asked for iced tea and was told they didn’t have any? Drink offerings were limited, no Ichiban. I asked for a Sunomono salad with Tako and was told that they did not serve Tako? I have probably visited a couple hundred sushi restaurants across the country over the past 35 years and have never experienced a sushi restaurant without Tako. The staff had the usual “Sebastopol” demeanor, snotty. The sushi was high quality but the portions were small. I ordered a 9 piece nigiri combo with tekka maki. 3 of my 9 piece combo was salmon, my least favorite. Two of the pieces were tuna which I thought was also a bit disproportionate considering the order included a Tekka Maki. Overall, my order was fairly light considering the portion sizes, I had one beer (Sapporo) and the tab was over $55. I don’t have a problem paying premium prices, I just expect a premium experience.
I wasn't very impressed by their sushi selection or taste of food.
Every taste was exquisite. It's rare to have food prepared with such care. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best Japanese restaurant in Sonoma County.
Excellent food, good service, fair value, poor wine list considering the Sonoma location
Incredible fresh fish but way too heavy on the wasabi on the nigiri. Heat level too high, so be careful.
Service was not great, indifferent, slow, and one of our orders never came out. Lots of flagging down for service but I guess that’s to be expected these days.
Great sushi and service! I’m a vegetarian and the vegetarian sushi selection was splendid.
Located in Sebastopol's Barlow Complex, Sushi Kosho is one of many sushi places in town. The food and service were adequate, but I can't help down-rating them because of their cost. Dinner for four--with two bottles of sake--came to over $300. Neither food nor service were good enough to deserve those prices.
Incredible fish quality, great service and innovative dishes. Highly recommend the mochi bons- a brilliant dish if you live crab.
Sushi was very good. Our grandson loved it. Service was slow.
Great selection, excellent wine pairings , friendly staff and modern atmosphere.
The food was great! There was a miscommunication about some of the food and it was brought out late. The floor manager apologized and gave us complimentary dessert 😁
Liked it, didn't love it. It's fine if you want a different sushi experience. I really enjoyed the salmon roll with lime. Overall I thought it was just one of those small portion overpriced kind of places.
Best, freshest, most creative spot in Sonoma County! Never disappoints, make a reservation.
Great to have another good sushi option. Menu is a little abbreviated, but really luscious food.
