Overall very nice restaurant with great ambiance and background music. Food was great, especially the group platter. Only problem was service was very slow. Servers were nice, but food coming out was slow!

Having no experience with southeastern African food, I did not know what to expect. We were treated to savory meat samosas, beef sausage: the Swahili Basket (recommended). Entreé was goat stew and beef cubes; both expertly cooked and deliciously spiced. Dessert was a mango purée pie.
Very well seasoned. Very well presented. Very pleased.

Everything from the attentive service to the relaxed yet elegant atmosphere to the amazing, flavor filled food, we had an amazing time at Swahili Village. We're looking forward to returning often. Recommend parking in the garage across the street.

Excellent all around! Such a great dining experience with food and flavors you won't find anywhere else in DC. We really enjoyed the goat stew, lamb chops, and tilapia with coconut curry (which was especially good). The mango mojito was also amazing -- would highly recommend. And so was the mango cake. The service was outstanding and everyone was warm and welcoming -- the manager stopped by the table and had a chat with us, too. We went early (5:30 on a Saturday) and the place was lively but not loud. We will definitely be back. It's a great place to bring out-of-town guests or celebrate a special occasion. Our teenage boys loved it, too.

Delicious food. Get the grilled steak (not the one with the sautéed onions) with jollof rice and plantains! The goat pepper soup is also very good. The manager, Chez, was very accommodating when I switched my order after misunderstanding the menu. Very much appreciated. Nice décor and we ended up going back twice in one week.

My first experience at Swahili Village was fantastic! The food, service, ambiance; the whole package. Can't say enough good things about Benji; informative about the foods, gracious, attentive...will definitely return again and again.

Although entrees with no sides were offered on the menu, we were informed the chef refused to serve one of our entrees without sides. So we were forced to order the entree with 2 sides. The beef entree was over cooked and very dry. The goat was very good. The cocktails were not well made. When the check came it included an automatic 20% gratuity for a party of 2. This is unacceptable. Needless to say we cannot recommend this restaurant.

My first visit here! And it will not be my last. The first thing you get when descending into the restaurant is a blast of festive African/Caribbean music! We visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was a little loud, but they turned it down a little. What do you expect from a place called Swahili Village? Great African food! And that is what you get. The food was a perfect blend of West African cuisines. We were a party of 4 and everyone enjoyed every morsel of food. We started off with the Bhajia appetizer/starter, sliced potato, lightly fried in a deasoned lentil bell pepper and cilantro batter with a spicy sauce. Yum! I had the red snapper, collard greens with white rice "wali." The hubby had curry chicken, jollof rice, collard greens and an extra side of red beans maharagwe. My girlfriend and her husband had the grilled salmon with sides. The ladies had Flaming Margarita (very nice!) Can't wait to return. Swahili Village will become my favorite DC restaurant!

The food is AWESOME and the service is terrific. Our server was able to help us navigate what we'd like to eat and WOW. We had the lentils (great vegetarian option), the beef cubes which were so much better as in excellent than expected and the whole fried tilapia. All were amazing. The beef samosas were also wonderful.

We had a fantastic dinner while visiting our daughter at GWU. I was looking for flavors that were different from what our kids normally enjoy (American and Italian). Our server, Moshi, took wonderful care of us. She recommended appetizers and entrees that helped us experience great new tastes. My teenage son said it was the best meal out that he could remember. I would love to come back here again!

Took a good friend for a Birthday lunch! The service was awesome! Miso da was our server and he was just amazing; funny, personable, great bartender and very attentive! We got to meet the owner along with some very essential staff members! We will be back! The restaurant is a much needed setting for downtown DC! Gotta love Kenyan cuisine!

Celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday! We dine at the Beltsville location quite often over the past few years but never been to the DC location...we are now love the DC location more and will visit again soon! The ambiance is very nice and upscale, food is still great but smaller/better serving sizes than MD location. Pricing is a bit more compared to MD and you have to pay for parking (about $3 for 1.5 hours), but the vibe is different and worth the extra money.

Met some friends here for an early lunch and as always The Consulate (lol) didn’t disappoint. Being a Nigerian, I appreciate the African ambiance and Afro Beats music playing in the background….the playlist was fire.
The staff was friendly and we even got to sample two wines that had just come on the menu.
The food. The Food! The wings is probably my favorite thing on the menu…well done and full of flavor. I’ve had the Samosas (another favorite of mine) and practically all the beef and goat dishes. Everything is delicious.

This will definitely be my go to place for my Nigerian/African friends coming from out of town when we want to go out and experience a bit of the motherland. Muah.

This restaurant was our first venture in true African cuisine - Kenyan. The food was excellent - moderately spicy, huge portions, and very creative. Our server was great and gave us lots of good advice on what to order, the vibe was very lively particularly considering it was a Monday night, the dj was amazing and the African music was energizing. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return!

First off lets start with how phenomenal the customer service and the hospitality is at this place. The place is so diverse and welcoming. Me and my girlfriend which now my wife to be went there for our anniversary and I planned on proposing to her so I let the manger and the waitress know and they went above and beyond to make this moment special for us. Overall amazing environment and good vibes!! Highly recommend this place. Oh and the food was bomb!!
