What Insiders Are Saying
Swift & Sons might have a separate seafood restaurant inside of it, but this steakhouse is the star of the show.
The food quality is good but most everything is skimpy, not what you expect from a Chicago Steakhouse. Drinks are small pours. Most wine is a 4x markup. Beef Wellington is good but not worth over $100 just to add pastry crust to a regular sized Filet. Add on King Crab for $32 is a half-leg. Desserts are very small portions. Sides are ok sized. Underwhelming experience.
Great place had a great time! Only complaint was the soup tasted scorched. Otherwise service was great, everything else (steak, apps etc) delicious
We just came for dessert on my son’s birthday but were treated like royalty, with a table side magic show and impeccable service. They even orivted out a special birthday menu.
Good dinner, GREAT Brussel Sprouts...
Met a close friend for dinner and we were seated immediately (made a 5:30p reservation). I picked the spot for the Waygu steak but I should have picked it for the brussel sprouts...THEY WERE GREAT!
The whole experience was awesome. Our server Humberto was incredible and made it an awesome evening. The shrimp cocktail and oysters to start were so fresh and amazing. I personally got the Japanese Wagyu and it is worth the price point 1000%. Overall it was a great night out with family and will be back ASAP.
Very friendly staff - excellent food, and efficient service made for a very enjoyable evening. Thank you to Humberto, our excellent waiter.
excellent food and service, but pricy. Can't be a regular.
Amazing place with just enough pomp and circumstance to make it next level.
Wonderful experience, still one of my favorites in the city.
My husband and I had such a wonderful evening. I wish I would have remembered our waitresses name. She was just so attentive and amazing. She when we needed something. As well as gave us what ever we needed
As a couple with two young kids we do not get out by ourselves very often and we were so happy that we came here. I would recommend this to all my family and friends.
my favorite restaurant in the city go here for every special event.
Everything about this place is awesome. Best steak restaurant in Chicago.
No Lobster surf and turf left at a steakhouse, talk about disappointing. The 8oz filet was okay, nothing special. Appetizers come out within a minute of ordering, which I found extremely odd. The desserts were the best part of the meal! Pick a different Chicago steakhouse, this one is sub par.
Swift & Sons is probably one of the best steakhouses in Chicago. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with my experience. We made a reservation for NYE dinner. We set down at our table 40 minutes past our reservation time. And it was the only BOKA restaurant I've experienced where they didn't accommodate guests for waiting that long of time especially with a reservation. Rather, we felt rushed to order our meal since the waiter said the kitchen closes in 20 minutes from when we finally set down at the table. We received our bill while we still had plenty of wine left in the bottle. We had cold platter, rib eye, half chicken and cream of spinach. The food was excellent and the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous as it was designed by Avroko. But I feel that their service could be improved.
When we arrived to Swift and Sons, the hostess's were a little standoffish towards my party. They told us that our table would be ready very soon and that we should go to the bars while we wait, which i already knew meant that they were running behind. Granted, it was new years eve, but we waited an extra 35 minutes to be seated at our table.
While waiting we were sitting in the bar area around 5 plus empty tables with 'reserved' signs on them.... cute. The bartender we had was not friendly (literally watched shorty talk ugly on other people sitting at the bar like no thanks baby) and our server was mediocre sadly. The steaks were great and the rest of the food was pretty okay but i have to say that the service here really had me shook to a point where i wouldn't return knowing the other steakhouses around the cities level of service.
Service was inconsistent among tables, some of the dishes we bland, lacking the flavor and surprise & delight to be expected in a restaurant of its stature in the market.
Celebrated NYE and had the best time! Will definitely be back. New favorite restaurant!
All was very good. Ambiance and service was very very good. The food was good but not excellent. My wife’s filet was undercooked and had to be sent back. The quality of my ribeye was good not great. Very disappointed with the “surf” of my meal. The lobster was not a tail I’m drawn butter but rather lobster meat in a thermador sauce. Dessert menu was very sparse with only a few options. Would be much better with a wider variety of chocolate desserts, some options for cake and pie and maybe a mousse.
Excellent! Our server (Humberto) was attentive, informed, and fun. The support staff was present and well trained. Highly recommend the New York Strip, the Filet, and the deep dish chocolate cookie. We'll be back.
Expect fantastic service and hospitality in a warm, inviting room that's among the best in Chicago. The steaks, of course, are what one would expect for the price, and the side dishes are a step above most other steakhouse staples.
We were disappointed overall. The food was average. Many more places are better. The service was excellent though. We may come back for another try, but it may not be for awhile. Dinner was expensive for the quality not being great.
Amazing food and atmosphere
Solid Steak House but the Filet was drastically undercooked and the sides were adequate.
Great food and service.
Tons of fun great staff!
Wonderful staff, food and drinks! Everything we had at the table was amazing. If we ever come back to Chicago we will definitely eat here again. We highly recommend!
In a city known for steaks, it is hard to set yourself apart. Swift and Sons is doing just that with impeccable service and great atmosphere. We hit it off with the bartender and ended up passing up our main dining room seats to stay seated in the bar area. Our meal became a 3 1/2 hour experience with great conversation and amazing food and wine pairings. I am sure the main dining room is just as great, but sit at the bar and ask for Adam. You can thank me later.
Excellent experience. I don't often go to high end restaurants and this had plenty to enjoy for us and was not intimidating at all.
The meal was fabulous! Best steaks ever! We will be back for sure!
We were able to be filled up on a variety of appetizers. The seafood is delicious, but the onion soup, pasta, and pierogis were also great!
Great restaurant and outstanding service. The food is amazing.
Our service coordinator, Andrea, was personable and professional. Each member of the service staff made it a pleasurable evening.
The food was outstanding from the appetizer through dessert (try the blood orange sorbet).
Great decor. Friendly and courteous service from the beginning to the end, although our bus boy was much more attentive than our server. I hope a portion of the tips went to him! Steak was priced similar to other premium steakhouses but our 16oz NY striploin was very thick and lean even though the cook was spot on (we asked for medium). Perhaps because all the other steaks that we had elsewhere were dry aged? The meat was just too thick and the leaner cut took us a while to chew. Sides were generously portioned, loved the roasted cauliflower and roasted mushroom. We went here because we could not get a reservation at Chicago Cut. CC was similarly priced but tasted much better!
Annual Christmas steak dinner for our sons and grandson - all of whom know excellent steakhouses from merely good. The food was outstanding all around - great shrimp cocktail, perfect frites and excellent creamed spinach; service very good but a little slow refilling water/wine glasses, thus 4 rather than 5 stars. We also enjoyed the room but found the lighting at our particular table just a bit too dark. The noise level was fine even though the house was packed. As to value, menu prices are on point with other downtown steakhouses ($$), but the wine list is overpriced in some areas - cabs especially - and could use a few more value priced reds as not every patron is on a corporate expense account. For steaks that are as good but less $$ try Stefani Prime up in Lincolnwood - what it lacks in downtown glamour it makes up for with value, including free valet parking. That said, we all truly enjoyed S&S and will most certainly go back. A real winner in a crowded genre.
Consistent excellent service by all staff members from when you arrive to when you leave. And the food is always delicious each and every time we have dined at Swift & Sons.
