As usual, I had a great dining experience yesterday at lunch. My lunch guest was a former colleague who now works across from Taste 222 and said he never been in the restaurant before. Hew was very glad he had lunch with me at this great place and will be coming more frequently. I am a regular and truly enjoy the food, staff and ambiance.

As usual, I had a great dining experience at Taste 222. Atmosphere was great. Restaurant played oldies, which is always cool to hear. Food was outstanding. I had the Taste burger with French fries. I am a regular patron and I always tell everyone about this excellent restaurant.

I've been to Taste 222 for lunch on three different occasions. Once, without a reservation and we ate at the bar. The other two times we were seated at tables in the small front dining space. It's been a delicious, solid lunch place every time. The menu is fairly small, but you don't need overkill when each item is so solid. I've had salads, soups, chicken sandwich, burger, the deviled eggs and several lovely drinks-- all were very good. In fact the only thing I can think that is weak (literally) is the ice tea. If you are a tea lover, then the watered down beverage will likely not fit your taste. No worries, they have a small but terrific wines by the glass. The thirsty will find something else. Taste 222 recently began running a small happy hour menu to accompany their bar. Haven't tried that yet but my server noted the food is a sampling of the most popular lunch items...so expect caper deviled eggs, sliders and a few other yummies.

Incredible food and service and a cute little cozy spot with great ambience. Our server was very knowledgeable and the bartender can pretty much cater to any need you have with drinks. Shrimp and grits and the lemon garlic chicken were so good.

It was my first time at Taste 222 and I enjoyed everything about it. The server was very nice and greeted me and my guest with a smile. The Salmon and Catfish meals were so delicious. I will return to Taste 222 this year for sure. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Such a lovely place to dine and the staff is phenomenal. Drinks are strong, I'm told, which is also a great thing, I'm also told. Lol! Definitely going back for 2nds, 3rds, etc...oh and try the peanut butter pie. Peanut butter mouse? Slap yourself good.

Yesterday was my first time visiting this establishment. I happened to stumble on it from a google search. Unfortunately, I missed Chicago Restaurant Week but wanted to invite my colleagues to share a culinary experience at a black-owned restaurant in celebration of Black History Month. To my delight, this restaurant was exceptional. The decor was beautiful, warm, and inviting. We were met by a wonderful hostess and a very friendly purple-haired server. I ordered fried catfish which was served with sweet potato fries and cole slaw. Now, I don't usually eat scavenger fish, but I felt I needed to experience their preparation and report back to my friends who indulge. I was pleasantly surprised. The fish was tender, flaky, with a crispy coating, and not overly seasoned. My colleagues ordered shrimp and grits and the battered chicken sandwich. We are all very pleased. I also loved the open/see-thru kitchen which allowed us to experience the back-of-the-house happenings. The icing on the cake was the Peanut Butter Mini Pie, which one of my colleagues and I had them pack to go. OMGoodness! My first choice was caramel cake, as I'm a creature habit, but decided to try something new and was not disappointed. It was peanut buttery heaven nestled on a dark chocolate cookie base and lightly drizzled with caramel. Overall, I would describe the menu as elevated southern comfort food. I was very satisfied. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Good experience! Went for Restaurant Week and got good food and great service for lunch. The shrimp n grits were good and the fish and chips were as well. The fish cld have had a little more spice but I just added hot sauce and it was fine. I’d recommend to people!!

Went with former colleague for Restaurant week. This was a very good value. We both had the fried catfish. He started with the soup of the day, Lentil. I started with the Kale salad, which I must admit was very tasty. I'm normally not a big dessert person, especially when the choice is between peanut butter pie and key lime pie. I went with the key lime pie as the lesser of 2 evils. Boy was I surprised, I actually enjoyed it very much.

I took my wife there for the first time and she loved it. We ordered the ancho chile glazed salmon, lamb loin chops, mac & cheese, brussel sprouts, and broccoli & cheese soup and loved all of the dishes. The ambiance was great and it was easy to find parking as well. We will be coming back to this restaurant!

Really great decor and service. Had the ribs on two occasions and both times they were dry and skimpy on the meat. Will not order ribs again. Side dishes (mac & cheese, corn bread, brussels) were just ok. The lamb was good but pricey. Loved the Boss (non-alcoholic) drink and the chocolate caramel cake.

It was a Friday night. We were expecting 6 and a couple backed out making it 4. The restaurant gave a little attitude because they made a table for more then what we had. We sat down and from that moment we didn’t even get our food until about 2 hours in. It seemed like they only had 2-3 working the kitchen for a full restaurant on a Friday night. Our waiter seemed to be pushing wine on us that was marked up 400% on the bottle..a little extreme I’d say. We ended up spending over 3 hours in the restaurant basically waiting on food. Ended up spending about $400 on a bottle of wine for the table and 4 meals off the restaurant week “special” with tax and tip. For what the experience was worth I wouldn’t go back.

We went for restaurant week and our group pretty much tried everything. It was fantastic! I love my steak medium rare and they cooked it so well. My boyfriend got the lamb and he said it was some of the best lamb he's had. They have fun cocktails and a decent wine list. It's a very small place so it would be great for a romantic dinner or happy hour with a couple of girlfriends. Definitely want to go back!

Unimpressed. Food presentation was beautiful, but was either flavorless or over-sauced/trying too hard. Entrees were overcooked. Felt like a suburban (lesser quality) restaurant in the city. Won’t go back.

Food was good I had turkey panini and my friend had kale salad with salmon. Very good. Went for lunch. Service was good - pet peeve of mine though at restaurants don’t automatically split a bill. I love my friends but I don’t want or need to pay for their food and drinks. If you’re going to split the bill. Put food and drinks on the appropriate checks. Do not automatically just split evenly. It’s annoying. Solution is me asking for separate checks which industry seems to have a problem with But customers first! 😀

Enjoyed my overall experience at Taste 222 and will definitely be back! My only issue is the seating. My groups was placed at a round table for 5 ppl but the seats were not comfortable and conducive for older patrons. This won’t keep me away but will definitely have to consider the group if the seating does not change.

We were looking forward to trying a new restaurant during restaurant week. After a fairly long wait, the Filet mignon were served cold. The butter that was on on wasn't melted at all. We would have brought it to our waiter's attention when served but we couldn't find him so we ate the cold meat. Further, my wife ordered another glass of wine during the first course. It finally came after we were served dessert. I let her drink my wine. The manager graciously said they wouldn't charge us for the wine we didn't drink. And we received a slight discount for the poor food. I recommend they invest in some warming lamps.,,,and bring ordered drinks a little sooner. We were about six feet from the bar. I almost got up to ask the bartender.

I went with a friend for lunch and the service was incredible. We were quickly seated and our food arrived soon after. We both ordered the grilled cheese with fries with the chocolate bread pudding for dessert. The dessert was amazing and the toffee sauce is probably one of my favorites. Overall it was a great experience.
