Tea at The Empress
It was a lovely place to have a great afternoon tea with friends
Lovely. A must try at least once. Beautiful ambiance, great service, and the tea and food were awesome.
Wonderful experience!! The ambiance was unmatched, the food was excellent and the service was top notch.
Would go to a tea spot for half the price
Food was obviously prepared way ahead.
This is my wife’s first time eating and having high tea at the Empress. She loved it in from Europe she was very impressed with the choices of teas and with the service and the quality of the food. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience.
To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I had taken my mother here for Mothers day about 12 years ago and we had an excellent time. I took my husband here in March of 2020 and the whole experience has changed. The items on the tea service looked to be direct from Costco and there was no more tea ceremony with the staff pouring the tea for you and explaining the process. You choose your tea and they brought it in a tea pot with a tea light under to keep it warm. The specialness of Tea at the Empress has gone. It is now just an overpriced Costco sampling tray.
Delicious! And great help selecting the right tea for a “non-tea” drinker.
The splendid tea at The Empress was a perfect outing on our mother-daughter weekend. Ron took great care of us and even offered a complimentary glass of bubbly when the wine I’d ordered wasn’t available. Delicious pastries and finger sandwiches, gorgeous ambiance.
Delicious food and incredible service! Made for the perfect afternoon!
It was really nice to just sit and enjoy my family’s company and not feel like we had to rush anywhere and just enjoy the tea and delicious food and atmosphere. It was very enjoyable. I did find that the price was a little high though but the experience was wonderful
Three of us enjoyed the delicious food and friendly attentive service (and the charming cocktail piano accompaniment), but we felt the price was outlandishly high. And we missed the old decor —the new look of the hotel is cold and bland, could be anywhere.
The scones and sandwiches were lovely and a nice variety. If you enjoy dark chocolate the desserts would have been delicious
Was so lovely the food was delish and all catered to being gluten free. The service was quite slow but the staff were lovely. It’s a very expensive experience, so I would only go for a special occasion. The tea options are limited unless you want to pay more which I think isn’t fair considering the overall price.
A once in a lifetime experience! A beautiful setting, lovely china, my very own teapot on a heated stand - lovely touches! Even a timer for steeping your tea the right length of time. The food was delicious and plentiful. But it is very expensive. I can now say I had tea at "The Empress" ! (But I'm not likely to do it again, given the price...)
My husband & myself had a lovely experience. The afternoon tea was delicious and the service was impeccable.
It's tea at the Empress! Something to do once while in Victoria. I regretted not going last time I was here. Glad I got the chance to come this time. Very traditional.
The tea was lovely and the ambiance was very enjoyable. I liked the piano music very much.
I would recommend tea at the Empresses to a friend however, it was really expensive. I would think again before going again just because of the cost. For me it’s a one time affair now. It’s a pity I would love to go back
Tea at The Empress is on many bucket lists. It did not disappoint in terms of ambiance or service or quality of the food and beverage. It’s very overpriced — almost $100 per person once tax and tip are included.
For the service and quality of food I'd say it was on the expensive side.
For the ambiance and setting I consider it fair priced.
An indulgent treat for someone not having to foot the bill.
Excellent experience, although relatively expensive, but worth it.
Honestly, this experience was not worth it to us. We paid an absolute fortune for mediocre food and awful tasting rose (which was up sold to us without knowing). I am very disappointed with this experience as this was something I have always wanted to do.
For $81 each, there are definitely many other places I have had high tea at, that were superior for their food. It was a special event and I have to say, I was quite disappointed.
The sandwiches seemed like they were made well ahead of time and were just ok. I think that for the price and the fact that they don’t even give the little souvenir box of Empress Tea, I wouldn’t go back.
We had a fantastic time- and a view, window table! A great way to celebrate my daughters 10th birthday! We were delighted, and FULL...plenty of food.
Very overpriced. I was with Japanese guests who are used to high calibre of service. Our server was rushed, clattered dishes and cutlery onto the table, spilled tea in front of a guest, and when serving the tray of food, the servers should have politely informed the guests instead of surprising them by reaching over them and plunking the trays on the table. The food was top notch and we were unable to finish as there was so much. Because we were the last setting of the day, I felt that we were somewhat neglected as they were obviously trying to clean up. Helpful hint: IF you really want to still do the high tea experience, don’t book the last setting of the day!
Fantastic place for afternoon tea. It was a great experience.
Service was impeccable.
The food was lovely, especially the tea.
Appreciated that we could do a bit of substitution.
It did seem a bit expensive but we only do it every 10-15 years so it is a special occasion.
Food was really good. They made accommodations for my nut allergy, but the replacements weren't very exciting- banana bread, chocolate loaf, etc. I really loved the old decor they used to have. Its modern now and nice, but tea is an old time tradition and the older decor went along with this theme. Once we got served, it was great. The choices for tea have changed. Used to be that many were included in the cost, now it's only 6.
The food was amazing. Two of our party have gluten allergies, and they have a entire separate gluten free serving, so you don’t have to worry. The gluten free selections were excellent. Ambience is great and the staff was wonderful. It is a bit on the pricey side, but worth it for a special high tea.
Nice and the food was good but we don’t believe it was worth $82 a person good .
Horrible experience. Service was slow and impersonal. Felt way overpriced for what we received. Be warned.
Pricey but worth it for the experience and amazing food/tea. Also, they had an entire dairy free menu which was phenomenal!
Me and my friend are very disappointed not only in the service at the Empress but also the tea was lukewarm it was to hot at all. The reputation of the Empress is so well known that we are very disappointed in our experience. Also the room was not at all like the pictures online and the ambience was very high class.
service was great but otherwise nothing else stands out. tea was nothing you couldnt get at a specialty store, bite selections mediocre. saved by the great server who made the experience more palatable for me. try it one time so you can say you did it
Lovely hotel. Tea was very good with service being excellent. At three pm on a Sunday afternoon we were the only diners present but did have the pianist for some sort of atmosphere.
We thought the extra cost for the special tea was sort of over the top when one pays a high price for the afternoon tea.
A good way to pamper yourself. Good food, good service and comfortable atmosphere. A little pricey for the average person but good for a special treat.
It was an amazing experience. I will definitely recommend this.
Tea at the Empress was a truly exceptional experience. I was quite spoiled by my waitress Manon.
Fun experience, the price is a bit high for it. Like mentioned the experience in itself is worth a try and the food was very good. And the server, Wayne, was lovely
We had a Wonderful afternoon, with a beautiful view of the water front, Food was delicious. The server was friendly and made us fell comfortable. We would recommend this as a must to do in Victoria.
