Modern Vineyard Cuisine inspired by our Indigenous roots. We proudly sit on the traditional land of the Syilx People of the Okanagan Nation. Our inspiration for the name of our new signature restaurant comes from a chaptik story passed down through the generations of our First Nations people of the Okanagan.
The Syilx People of the Okanagan Nation approach to food is based on the creation stories of their culture and we’ve taken their stories as the inspiration for the name of our restaurant: “The Bear, The Fish, The Root & The Berry,” based on the story of the Four Food Chiefs.
The Four Food Chiefs are central: Skimxist Black Bear (chief of animals, representing self-sacrifice, leadership, giving), Ntytikxw Chinook Salmon (water creatures, perseverance, hard work), Speetlum Bitterroot (plants below the round, relationships to the land) and Seeya Saskatoon Berry (plants above ground, growth, strength, community) are legendary and the elements of indigenous cuisine.

    Top notch restaurant. Great food and great service. We dinned here probably eight time and always have had a wonderful meal. The fry bread is amazing. So good I added a second order to go!

    We booked this restaurant for dinner as a treat for our last day in town. It wasn’t super busy in there, maybe half full. Upon sitting there for a while we noticed that the kitchen was running behind, which was odd because the dinner rush had seemingly been over. We ordered the beef carpaccio and the husk grilled salmon steak to share. The beef carpaccio was definitely the highlight, although the portion size was very small for the price. Only a couple small bites each left us wanting more. Have definitely had better/and bigger sized portions of carpaccio for that price at upscale restaurants before. As for the salmon meal, we were disappointed. The whole plate was extremely bland. The salmon had little to no taste to it. Couldn’t taste the roasted pepper coconut sauce at all. The wild rice had zero taste, and the sautéed greens were extremely bland and wilted (I know it’s sautéed but it seemed like they had been sitting in the kitchen for a long time before it got plated). The only saving grace with that plate was that the salmon was cooked perfectly. I think we would return here to give it another go with a different entree. But all in all I wasn’t super impressed with the quality of food.

    Excellent food and service, I regret not coming there for dinner. The last time I stayed at Spirit Ridge was before Covid and I recall the restaurant being very good then, it seems to have become much more elevated than before. thank you for such a great culinary experience

    Waiter put wrong items in computer. Waiter didn’t know how to open wine. Cork in wine, capsule torn and sharp. Waiter stood at table and waited for me to tip and sign check. Really awkward.

This is not our standard and we would love to have the opportunity to make things right. As we are located in wine country we do our best to offer a higher level of service. It is clear that our wine training needs to be better and more focused. A few of our team members are brand new to the industry, and you have made it clear that we need to prioritise our training regime. We constantly strive to improve.     Great food, over priced wines for the quality and no blinds on the front windows so all the patrons, including us, were sweating while we ate. We saw other patrons asking about getting shade from the huge umbrellas on the deck, but we were all told NO!

We are proud to support only independent local wineries, where the wholesale value is typically more expensive than bringing in imported international varietals. This is due to Canadian land costs, labour costs, taxes and fees, transportation of product, etc. Thus our beverage menu reflects that price-wise. However, supporting our community is important to us. We appreciate your comments on blinds and shades, however the consensus after many years is that visitors and locals alike prefer to take in the view rather than block it off. We always make sure to have some shaded tables available, both inside and out. Unfortunately, when the wind gusts are more than 25 km per hour, there is too much risk and fear of injury with umbrellas breaking.
