it was amazing!!
I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at The Block. I was there for brunch on Saturday, 1/22. There was a DJ there and it was lit!!! I will definitely be back real soon.
Lively fun experience for Saturday brunch. If you are looking for an upbeat atmosphere with great food, great people and a great time, then get down here!!!! Dj was dope and had everyone in great spirits, much needed good time. Tables are socially distanced, clean and staff is great! Stephanie B is amazing!
A bit slow, but ok. Short ribs undercooked and too much fat. The wine selection is sparse-don’t carry Sauvignon Blanc?! Appetizers were good and hot.
Great Service...love the location. Sat at a table that allowed us to look out onto Woodward. Not very crowded on a cold, Wednesday evening. I would certainly go back.
Loved the live DJ, service from our server Lauryn was great. The food was delicious. Our reservation was at 11:45 and We were seated immediately. The management was attentive and kind. And the Passionfruit mimosa carafe was the perfect accompaniment to the meal. We will be back!!
Overall just a great place with amazing food!
Food was good, but the drinks were not good at all. Go for wine or beer instead of a cocktail. Enjoyed the shrimp and grits! I was hoping for a more interesting ambiance for dinner before a show, but it was fine on the whole.
Me and my friend drove from Ohio for the day and we had Michelle taking care of us. She was so nice and gave us places to go while we were here. She started our trip off right and made our first visit amazing. We already said we’ll be back and will be looking for her when we come! Thank you Michelle for bringing the vibes!!
We were seated right away upon arrival. We ordered Spinach Dip as an appetizer, and it arrived at our table very late. It was very cheesy and the bread was very good, although over-salted. My date ordered The Block Mac n Cheese, which was hot & delicious, however very rich. I ordered the Salmon BLT, which was awesome, and would have been even better if it had avocado on it! The fries were hot & crispy, but seemed to be coated with some sort of breading or flour. Overall the food is pretty decent, I’d return here if it wasn’t for the extremely slow kitchen.
The service is very friendly, however the extremely long wait times for the food leaves something to be desired at The Block. I recommend NOT choosing this establishment if you have concert tickets, or have to be somewhere at a certain time after dinner. Also, they include the gratuity on the check and it was confusing whether or not it was actually automatically charged on our credit card. No one pointed this out to us, I am glad we paid attention enough to notice, or we could have tipped twice. I think this seems sketchy for a table of two. The hostess confirmed that the tip was in fact included on the check when I asked for clarification. Please be advised.
Awesome place! Definitely recommend and Sunday brunch is great.
The bartender was our waitress (can’t think of her name) but from the host to the manager to the waitress. They were so nice and it was a special occasion. Telling my boyfriend that he was finally about to be a daddy. They made it so special for us. They talked to us, gave advice and made our experience personal. Will definitely be returning !
Greeter and Server were outstanding. Drinks were perfect....
Server helped us with spice levels. Incredible service
Mostly positives to report:
- great location, close to DSO
- food and drinks were tasty
- service was good for most in our group.
- Unfortunately, meals for 2 of our 7 guests arrived 20 minutes after the main group.
- We would return despite the issue.
Quick brunch as I was headed back to DC, but I have another cool brunch spot when visiting my hometown!
Everything is good to eat, we had a minor setback with the mac and cheese. Normally it's very delicious and my husband and cousin enjoy their punch
Went for brunch on our anniversary. Food was great, the people were great, the noise…..too load but fun atmosphere.
We will be back for a dinner experience. Love the shrimp and grits.
Great atmosphere and delicious food. Staff were very friendly.
I have been to The Block a few times before the pandemic. Their food is good along with the ambiance. Dining out today I understand the magnitude that covid has had on the restaurant business. However Saturday evening I had a 4:15 pm reservation for a party of three. My party and I were running a few minutes behind. We arrived at the restaurant at 4:21. The hostess informed us that our table was no longer available. I asked what was the grace period, she informed me ten minutes. I was confused because it have been 6mins. Now I take full responsibility for being late, that's on me. However, we are here now. I asked if we could sit at the bar and we were informed no, due to the kitchen being backed up and limited staff. No other accommodations or suggestions were made. So as not to hold up people coming in behind us we left. I called the restaurant and requested to speak to a manager, as I'm not happy with the interaction. The same hostess answers the phone and asks about the issue. After explaining what occurred, she says we can be seated in 15mins. Now I'm frustrated because had we been told that upon arrival, and prior to leaving, we would have stayed and patronized this business. My party and I ended up dining elsewhere. I probably won't be returning to The Block.
Nice place, waitress was a bit stabdoffish but the food was really good.
The menu was varied and the food was excellent....
Like many restaurants badly in need of more staff. Staff who waited on us was very accommodating and eager to please. Our meals were not fancy but we enjoyed them - pear and fennel salad, chicken Caesar salad, Cali burger. Very convenient for pre or post DSO performances - one block from Orchestra Hall. Best to make a reservation.
The Block always honors our reservation time and the service is outstanding!!!
Great spot--delicious food, good vibes, friendly staff. Couldn't ask for more
Cajun pasta was swimming in grease. The "fluffy" French toast was far from fluffy and dry and flavorless. The wings has barely any meat on them and they was way over cooked. Our appetizer came out with our food as did a neighboring table's as well. We had to pay $10 to park and I have never been to a restaurant were they include gratuity on check for 2 people. We do not recommend this restaurant.
The food and service were both outstanding. We’ll be back again and again.
Food was delicious. Manager was very personable. Wish more seats had backs instead of just stools.
I ordered the Wednesday special of the whole broasted chicken for 20 bucks and it was amazing!
Great amazing food but my date was ruined because we could not hear each other talk, music was outrageously loud.
This was my first time at The Block. Everyone was exceptional and the food was extremely flavorful. They were even kind enough to recognize I'd forgotten my phone and promptly held it for me. It was available for pick up after close! I cannot wait to be back.
I absolutely loved my food all 3 times I have been there. The Dj’s have been really on point. If you don’t like loud music and party this might not be your spot. The hostesses have been very pleasant. The manager is attentive and very involved in ensuring food is delivered fresh and hot. My only complaint would be the level of customer service from the bartender. Her rudeness and lack of care about her service is a complete put off. I had a pleasant experience when this specific bartender was off. It wasn’t just me it was like 6-8 customers around me said the same thing. Shared with management and I hope they listened.
The server was very attentive to our needs. We never had to ask for our cups to be refilled. The server was pleasant and provided us enough information pertaining to the food/drink options.
Stopped for a quick bite prior to concert. Great food and great people.
Food was really good, waitress was super nice and the drinks were yummy. Cool ambience and not too loud
It’s a little over priced for brunch but it’s cool
Slow service. Probably due to staff shortage. But, there were a lot of people who seemed to work there, hanging around in the kitchen. (It's open to partial view.) Our waitress was friendly/sassy, but, poorly trained in terms of customer service. After we'd waited for our food for about 20 - 25 minutes (It was @ 7:40), waitress stopped by to tell us it would be ready soon, she said because the kitchen is about to close, they want to go home. The restaurant closes at 9:00. The entrees are limited. Salmon prepared 3 ways. That's it for fish. Shrimp n grits, mac n cheese, braised short ribs, chicken. These are the sides - french fries, sweet fries, mac n cheese and salad. Overpriced. Mac n cheese was $18 and it was terrible. It's the convenient location that keeps this place busy (Midtown, theaters/shows, on Woodward, etc.), can't be the food or service.
Always a great time! We'll return soon for more fun.
The block is definitely a vibe. I went there with my friends for Sunday brunch and we had a blast. Great food, great drinks, great time. My only complaint was the service. I think they were short staffed that day but I ended up having to ask the hostess who our server was because nobody had come to take our drink order or anything for about 20min. When we asked for our bills, she didn’t ask us if we wanted separate bills she just put everything on one bill. When we asked her to separate she came back with completely messed up bills and didn’t separate anything correctly. That was a headache and we ended up having to stay another 30min because of that. I’m hoping the waitress was just new or something because we’ll be back.
Wonderful service! Very attentive staff, great music and excellent food!
Awesome customer service and I will return
