The Chef and I is built on a love story between two people that began 15 years ago in Nashville, Tennessee.
Chris and Erica Rains grew the company from two to now over fifty family members.

We serve innovative cuisine in a fun environment. Guests can choose to order off the menu or do a chef's tasting any day of the week. A private chef’s table and an interactive show kitchen in addition to regular dining is what you’ll find at The Chef & I Nashville Midtown!

We are also able to accommodate walk-in guests in our lounge, backstage bar and other dining areas; with a short wait depending on the day of week and time. Prime times are longer of a wait for walk-ins.

Reservations for parties of (4) or more canceled within 24 hours before are subject to a $20 per seat charge.

    Bourbon Thursdays - Make a reservation on any Thursday to join us for a unique bourbon tasting experience, pairing bourbons with inspired culinary courses. Our mission is to highlight the flavor profile of each bourbon when you experience it with different dishes and tastes. You can pick four from our list of pairing bourbons, and it all happens at the main bar between 5pm and 7pm every Thursday. Make your reservation now and snag a ticket before we fill up. Our knowledgeable bartenders will talk you through each bourbon’s history and flavor profile.   • Comedy Night "The Music Row Comedy Show" at 8pm

    The Chef and I presents another curated event in our "Backstage" event space. Come laugh and experience some of Nashville's talented comedians in an intimate showcase performance. The "Music Row Comedy Show" will be live and on stage on the second and fourth Fridays of 2024. Doors open at 7:30pm and the show starts promptly at 8pm. All of the comedians and comediennes are currently regulars on the comedy circuit in and around Nashville. Each show will showcase two to three up and coming seasoned local humorists. You are encouraged to make reservations at "The Chef and I Nashville" via open table to enjoy one of Nashville's best restaurants before the upcoming show. We recommend a time no later than 6pm to enjoy dinner before the show.

    We had an excellent experience with their Chef’s tasting menus allowing us to try a number of specialties. Every course was excellent. Addison brought tons of energy and enthusiasm for the food we were about to eat. We would definitely come back.

    Early Sunday dinner, so there was no rush. We had a great waiter (Addison), and the whole staff was very friendly and helpful.

    My partner and I ordered three of the sharables for dinner and each plate was absolutely perfect! We actually wondered why we had not heard of this place earlier. Amazing food!

    My husband and I were in town with our darter visiting colleges. The staff was great, our waiter Mike was fantastic. We got to go down and meet the chef. Food was excellent!

    We were under the impression based on photos the whole restaurant could see the open kitchen but that is not the case. Only a very small portion of it is. Everything started off good as far as service, however the time it took to get our food was extremely long. We sat down at 8:00 (our reservation time) and did not receive our meals till after 9:00. Our appetizers were good as well as the lamb dish was very good. We also had Cacio e Pepe which was not very good at all and very plain. We were compensated part of our bill which was nice but I don’t see us recommending this restaurant or returning if we are in the area again.

    I chose the Chef & I for my wife and I to celebrate our honeymoon. I couldn't imagine how perfect it would turn out to be. We were lucky enough to be seated at the chef's table downstairs and blessed to have Chef Eric take care of us. He made us feel right at home. Everything he and his crew served us was outstanding. He even shared with us some surprise courses that we loved! Our server, Addison, was also friendly, quick, and helpful. My wife and I smiled through our entire dinner service. Nashville has many unique places to have a meal, but the Chef & I is not to be missed!

    Attended a group cooking class followed by dinner with Chef Chris and Erica. Was a fantastic opportunity to interact with the chef/owners and learning some techniques about how to cook and back story on some of his menu choices. Was a really good blend of class activities and presentation and learning their story and having access to them was super fun. Food was great and I left very full! totally recommend!

    The cooking class was lots of fun and we got an amazing meal to eat at the end! It ended up being a very small class so we got to have great conversations and ask any questions to the chef. He was very helpful and gave lots of tips and tricks

    Wonderful space and loved the servers, but the food was just awful. So disappointing because the concept of the place is great, but there was no execution. We got the tasting menu and I would only order one of the seven dishes again. Four were barely edible.

    We were looking forward to this experience. Sadly the restaurant did not live up to our expectations. Upon arrival we were placed in a dark back room. Terrible ambience. The hostess seemed put out when we asked to move. Thankfully they accommodated us at a four top in the bar area. Hopeful that the food would be great, unfortunately it was not. Terrible pacing. Food was a huge disappointment. Close to $500 with trip. Party of 4. 1 bottle of wine. Not worth it.

    I had the 5 meal tasting menu for $95, which was way overpriced for the tiny portions and quality of food. The time waiting between plates is way too long. We got a side of bread which came out ice cold in the middle and had to be returned. The elk loin was so overcooked it was like trying to cut a rock, I didn’t finish it. $300 meal, horrible chef service. Won’t return.

    Food came out too slow. Food tasted awful especially for the high price. No thank you. I guess I'm just an old country pumpkin that doesn't value places like this.

    Nice place. Fantastic food. Small menu, but everything we ate was delicious. I think every restaurant nowadays is overpriced, but relatively speaking, and considering the quality of food, this was very good.

    The cooking class was a ton of fun. Chef Matt was kind, helped us prepare, and gave us good feedback throughout the lesson. I really enjoyed the skills we learned and my girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our ramen. Thanks to the team for putting on such an enjoyable couples activity.

    The service was amazing! Their baked feta was out of this world!! We did the 5 course and it was a great experience. The only part i didnt give 5 stars was the last 2 courses were not the best. The duck was very chewy and the elk was over cooked. Overall though my girlfriend and I will definitely be coming back!

    This was a first for us and we'll be doing it again with friends and family. We can't say enough about how great an experience it was. It's an especially great date idea, which is how we enjoyed it, but just as great a family or friend experience. It was a little pricey, but generally well worth it. That's the certainly the case for the tickets, but know that drinks will add up quick given the fun you'll likely have. It was just a stellar experience all the way around and one we highly recommend.

    It’s not just an average dinner but an experience. We got to watch the chef cook and interact with them. Very welcoming friendly staff. We flowed up dinner with the comedy show. Lots of good laughs

    Truly an experience. My boyfriend and I walked in somewhat awkward, with this being our first fancy dinner, and we left laughing with full bellies and an appreciation for the chefs whipping up delectable meals back to back. We had the 7 course tasting (which changes every 6 weeks we were told) with wine pairings, as well as 2 shareables, the fig and burrata toast was heavenly, my boyfriend loved the spicy lamb meatballs. Each course has its own unique flavors and mouthfeels, I never thought pot roast would be something I'd want at a restaurant dinner setting, but they put grandma to shame! Every staff member we spoke to was extremely kind, the tall bearded male server (I didn't catch his name) sang a lil birthday tune for my boyfriend even! And multiple people have mentioned Jess for good reason! Wonderful staff. I'm not sure if it was the wine, but we had an absolutely amazing time, were served by amazing, bubbly, knowledgeable people, and this place has easily become a new tradition in our relationship 🥰

    It was a wonderful experience,the only problem we had was that we were celebrating our anniversary and I asked the chef to prepare a special dessert for a 40th. The dessert was underwhelming to say the least. I asked why they brought an baked apple and the waitress said it was an experiment. So after 7 courses of wonderful food it was quite the letdown after asking for a dessert that would have topped off a beautiful night.

    Excellent experience last night at TheChef and I. Cool atmosphere with tables as well as long oval bar with seating. The fig and burrata with brioche was heaven and the smoked salad was delicious with large pieces of bacon. I had the duck and my husband had the sirloin. The duck and sirloin could be a little more flavorful. The real standouts were the sauces that accompanied them. The sides were cooked to perfection. The highlight of the meal was the German chocolate cake. Easily one of the best desserts I have had at a restaurant in years! The wine list was varied and not horribly priced. Would definitely return!

    We really enjoyed The Chefand I in the past, but this trip it was really just an average experience. The new location is much much more spacious, but it is extremely loud with no efforts at noise mitigation on the very reflective walls. This was particularly aggravating because of a table of drunken men, but in general every table’s noise reverberated off of the walls. Our brussel sprouts and peppers were good but nothing special. The cacio e pepe was fine, but not elevated in anyway. I could get something equally good at a nice chain restaurant. The rocket salad was really nice and our cocktails very good (Dave Grohl and Velvet Underground). Perhaps it was what I ordered. The tasting menu looked very good, but I didn’t want to eat/spend that much.

    Enjoyed the 5 course chef's tasting menu with selected wines and found the pairings well suited and the food well prepared and presented. All seafood items were cooked properly and not over cooked! We'll be back.
