While I would recommend the restaurant, our experience was just average. I was scolded by the hostess for not answering her phone call one hour before our reservation to confirm (even though the restaurant had texted me to confirm--which I did). She told me that a result of not answering, our table wasn't ready. While having drinks at the bar the bartender was less than friendly or helpful when ordering. Our server was attentive and made some great suggestions. The ambiance is amazing and the food is decent and rotates quarterly--which is fun.
When another couple asked for a recommendation for new spot to go for dinner, we thought The Consulate would be a great choice. On our other visit we really liked the vibe, the food was delicious, plus sharing tapas would give us lots to choose from. The special country that half the menu would focus on was Zambia. I have never been, so I had no idea about the cuisine and was excited to try. We were a little concerned about the spiciness of the Zambian cuisine, but there was zero to worry about, it was more about flavors than spiciness.
The quality of the dishes ranged from very good / excellent for the Cucumber Mango Salad, the Sauteed Chinese Eggplant, the Piri Piri Roasted Cauliflower and The Korean Pulled Duck Confit. The OK dishes included the Zambezi Chicken Cutlet. Two dishes were not to my liking at all; the Char Siu BBQ Pork and the Pan Fried Shrimp Dumplings.
After reading on-line reviews we expected, found and accepted, and will confirm we experienced many during our visit. We were 20 minutes late getting seated and the hostess was not transparent in her assessments. The service during the meal was incredibly slow, with long pauses before we started and at several intervals. Our server, though, was very good, she knew the menu inside-out, made recommendations and checked in often, as did the manager.
We will definitely return to the Consulate, we loved the vibe and most of the food.
The current menu was Zambia and the food was excellent, as well as the service, as always. Love dining at The Consulate!
I LOVE this restaurant! I like new experiences and am always trying different places but I always come back to this one. Great food, wonderful atmosphere for a romantic date or a dinner with a group of friends.
This was an amazing experience for us. We consider ourselves foodies :) We had an opportunity to talk to the one of the owners Douglas. To personal hear his (there) story was a pleasure to hear it from him. We had the pleasure of having Chris as our adviser...lol..I pick our small plates and entree along with the crafted drinks. Everyone who's a true foodie needs to visit this place.
Love the vibe of this place! Highly recommend the Moroccan Sunset cocktail. They really took the customer experience to the next level on this one. Really great taste and it even has a port wine ice cube that slowly adds color to the drink and changes the taste experience as it does. The color fades to dark as a sunset would and my mind was blown.
I was introduced to The Consulate from a friend that works there. I went there for a few drinks with a friend, as a 'pregame' place before we met up with a group for a bday dinner. I was very impressed with the ambience. We sat in the lounge area and enjoyed our cocktails. I'm from DC and love these cool chic elegant places to dine or enjoy a few libations with friends. Having such a good experience that night, I decided to have my bday dinner there for 5 people and requested, and granted the private dining area.
1. parking validated for free for 3 hours.
2. Great freshly made cocktails. No syrups!
3. Very good ambiance.
4. Great appetizers.
1. The manager commented that "no beer or Hennessy served" as they cater to a 'certain' crowd! Didn't like that remark.
2. Service was extremely slow! Especially for a private area, my water glass should never be empty for minutes on end, before being refilled. My mom took the extra water that was placed for the guest that didn't attend.
3. Appetizers were great but the entrees were just OK! They change their menu every 90days so I'll give it another try in a few months!
Overall, a cool place to meet for a first date or a quick meet up with a friend where you can enjoy apps and cocktails at the bar or the lounge area.
Reminds me of a chic DC/ NYC vibe but the food is entrees, not the overall food, was okay.
Oh... they did have a bomb au natural brownie and sorbet dessert that's AMAZING!!
Every dish was excellent along with the service. Scallops were buttery and snapper had intense flavors that exploded in our mouths. Mango salad was perfect as well. Ambience made us feel even better than the food tasted! A must try in the city!!
Great theme-- The consulate changes its menu every 90 days to reflect different regions in the world. I've visited on Wednesday, March 6 and the theme was Africa. I ordered the ox tails and they were very very small portions but we had tasty appetizers and the service was great along with the ambience but the portion size and the prices need to balance
What a fun atmosphere! I felt like I was among expats at some far away location. The food is very interesting and takes a few visits to figure out what you like. We will definitely go back to try other dishes.
The food was very overpriced and dissappointing. The vegetarian options were limited and bland. The cauliflower came in a huge chunk and barely had any sauce, spice, or taste. The peanut spinach dip was very bland. The best option was the okra which at least had a nice sauce. Thw drinks were not great either, but the moraccan sunset was ok. I spent over $100
and it was a huge disappointment.
Chris was a rock star again.
Really beautiful, unique dining and bar space. Food is creative and tasty. Service levels could improve some, though. On a busy weekend night, staff seemed a bit overwhelmed at times, lacking a bit of polish and professionalism, which can make for a stressful dining experience for guests.
Fun concept of rotating some dishes through the year while maintaining the popular ones year long. Lots of vegetarian options. The ambience was very eclectic and inviting.
This is my second visit to The Consulate, and I can definitely see this trendy midtown spot making its way into my regular rotation. The rotating menu is refreshing and interesting, while the mainstays (specifically the octopus) are a nice foundation to a wonderful evening.
With regard to the food, some of the dishes were over-salted, but on the whole, the food is very good and the service is prompt, warm, and well-trained.
Fabulous experience for out of town guests.
Food and service great but can you get the check right please?😩
Such an eclectic menu from around the world that changes each season. A wonderful experience to share with a business customer to help drive the dinner conversation. The food was delicious! Spices are expertly used to create authentic dishes but it is not too over powering. One guest in our party did not care for any spice/flavor and there were dishes for her too. We are looking forward to going back Spring 2019 when their focus will be around Spanish cuisine from around the world.
My experience at the Consulate exceeded expectations in every way.
The food is absolutely divine. Compliments to the chef! Every single thing on the menu became my favorite item upon taking a first bite. The cocktails are glorious. Taste is consistent and the expertise is clear to taste.
Always a great experience when we visit.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Awesome place for a date!!
I love this place it’s my new favorite ! Our server really took care of us and made sure our friend had a great bday dinner! The booths were more private than I thought. I love the atmosphere and decor, and I have already recommended this place to several friends. The menu accommodates many different taste buds. My friend is a vegan and they had wonderful tasty options for her and I even had some too. I will be back for sure.
I love this place. Great food. Great ambiance. Great spot to enjoy with family, friends, or business colleagues. Love it! One of my favorite establishments.
The food was great but the service was very lacking on this evening. I realize they were short staffed and i will definitely be back soon.
All in all, a very nice trip to Zambia. Love the concept of the restaurant, and the décor/hidden away sections of the building somehow allow you to feel tucked away yet a part of the restaurant.
Food & drink was excellent. Service a bit slow the night we were there... seemed that wait staff was perhaps one waiter-waitress short.
Really nice place, great decor. The food was good. I was not fond of the desserts though. Good drinks.
Excellent food from Zambia for a meeting with our book club. Rather loud but we were able to be heard. Great wine with a generous pour.
The concept is exciting, the service was helpful and expedient. It was a pleasant pleasant, delicious meal. The following six hours of intense overpowering nausea was less pleasant.
Our new favorite spot. Food and drinks were great!! The Shrimp Ghassi is the dish!
Always great food and atmosphere. Love the "grown-up" vibe in the building. ;)
This is a very lively loud place. We enjoyed the experience, but probably won't be back. The hostess and support staff were great. Our server was very slow and forgot a few things along the way. The recommendation she made was not great either. If you are a party of two and want to hang in a lively loud place, it might be better. Also, it's pretty hidden behind the Marta elevator...
The night started off a bit frustrating because we had a reservation at 8pm and we arrived early to secure our seats, but we were not seated until 8:15pm. This isn't a huge deal, but it did tamper with the experience, and we couldn't sit down at the bar because there were more people that hadn't been seated either. I was going to subtract a star due to this, but the food and the waitress's service were too spectacular that I had to give it 5 stars. It ended up being one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've ever had. I definitely recommend getting the beef patty or the oxford tail, and the cocktails were exquisite. Besides needing to work on their reservations hitch to ensure guests are seated in a timely manner, everything else about this restaurant is amazing.
Two people were served steaks that were basically nothing but fat. One entree wasn’t even fired so that person didn’t get dinner with the rest of the party. The okra was very good but the cauliflower was very bland. The fingerling potatoes were solid. The Diplomat was good. Drinks were good but one drink wasn’t made properly. Service was very slow and the server didn’t follow up with the table during our sitting. They tacked on 20% gratuity for an effort of 15% maybe. I don’t think I would go back with so many other options in Midtown.
It is such a beautiful space; the designers did a stellar job. I would recommend it just because it feels so fresh and timeless - you are clearly in a spot with some thought behind it. The food is very good. We got a few things from the all-the-time menu and some from Zambia which was the country represented when we went. Everything was wonderful. The problem, however was the service. It was friendly, but inept. Drinks took forever, some basic coordination we wanted help with for a surprise party was way over everyone's head; there was such a lag before desert and then waiting for the check was endless. The back waiters did not really help the main servers and could not even grab an extra napkin on request. It's such a shame because though I am sufficiently charmed by the ambiance that I would go back again just for that, I feel that other people, especially those who really want or need their drink, or foodies really into the temperature or tempo of their food would find it all too much. Maybe it was an off night; maybe there is more training in the works. I hope so because it's such a great concept, in such a great space, that I would like to see it thrive. Give it a try when you have no where to be and can be patient and just enjoy.
Went here for Valentine’s Day and it was fantastic! Great ambiance, food & service!!
Food was amazing and the service was wonderful! Can’t wait to come back here!
Food was meh, there was a lot of vegetables under the steak which made it hard to cut the steak.
Great ambiance that speaks to a world traveler or those with interest in a global exotic cuisine. An innovative yet intimate gem hidden in plain sign Midtown Atlanta that changes their menu consistently to experience a different cuisine every few months, whereby the guests collaboratively decide by “spinning the globe” and pointing at a new adventure. The result, a remarkable culinary experience, featuring exquisite modern design that sets the stage for high quality crafted cocktails and exceptional dining experience like nothing else in town.
I made reservation to celebrate a birthday. The food have a unique flair and was utterly delicious.
The service was amazing and I adored the ambiance. Would definitely recommend
