   I had roast chicken, which looked lovely when it arrived, and a very generous plate. Chicken, three roast potatoes, peas, kale, roast carrots and parsnips, Yorkshire pudding, gravy and, my favourite, cauliflower cheese. Recently I have had chicken in similar restaurants which was overcooked and dry, certainly not in this instance. But I had to leave a considerable portion by the bone, because it was very pink. The potatoes were well roasted, where often they get hard in restaurants because they are cooked then kept warm. Beautifully cooked, but a bitter flavour. As were the carrots, parsnips, and bizarrely, the cauliflower cheese, and, to a certain extent, everything. I am not an expert, but it tastes as if rosemary was cooked into each, and then scattered over the top. Not pleasant. The kale didn't stand a chance against the bitterness. So that, the carrots and parsnips, half the potatoes and a third of the chicken were left. By the way, I pointed out the pink chicken to the server when she removed my plate, but she didn't seem at all interested. And, yes, I was nice about it: it was my birthday treat, and I had no interest in causing drama. During the Covid lockdown I had this same dish many time as a take away, and it was always gorgeous. Sadly, not this time. I think I heard that there is a new chef? Please, can we please dial down the bitter herbs? But because I couldn't finish my main meal, I had a bit of room, for the most exquisite lemon posset. Beautifully balanced, and served with rhubarb compote and raspberries, it was absolutely perfect.

   The fish I had was beautifully cooked, but the dish arrived with no greens as mentioned in the menu. The dessert, a tarte tatin was on limp, soggy pastry and wasn’t very tasty. The decor is inviting but the menu could offer more.

   the menu was very limited only 5 choices for main course i suggest it's not enough. so me and my partner both had the burger as the other 4 didn't appeal which was very nice .

    Relaxed lunch in a friendly atmosphere. Good cooking, well presented. Enjoyed the Hereford beef burger with a pint of Cerne Abbas ale, followed by mango pannacotta.

    Meeting friends we hadn't seen for a long time, we chose a small room at the front of the bar area as it was quieter there than in the body of the building. Despite that we were served promptly and didn't suffer any lack of attention. The food was very good. The chicken and leek pie was prepared to order and was worth a short wait and was piping hot. The menu catered for all tastes and requirements and the drinks selection was very good apart from there being no real bitter. Good pale ales sufficed.

    The restaurant was closed when we got there and we had received no prior notification of this - and have received no subsequent apology. Clearly the restaurant is not communicating properly with Open Table

    The menu was fairly limited but everything was cooked perfectly. Service was excellent. Place was decorated nicely for Christmas. Never like a service charge being added to your bill but I know that's the way with some establishments. Will use again.

    We love this place. It is a bit more expensive than some local places but the service and atmosphere make up for it. Think menu is a little restricted but we usually find something to suit everyone.

    We enjoyed dinner on a busy Saturday evening at the Cross Keys. Interesting selection of food from the 3 course menu that would suit most diners together with a wide range of good quality drinks. The restaurant area was comfortable and peaceful despite there being a separate party in the private room. The staff are polite and efficient and their service was excellent. Have eaten here many times and will go back

    Our table was too close to the kitchen exit/entrance. The young staff were enthusiastic but inexperienced. The champagne was expensive but good. The main course didn't look very appetising, looking at the next table, so we just had a starter and cheese board and a glass of wine each which still cost £100 for two.
